Rose Byrne, Chris O’ Dowd and Ethan Hawke get charming in the new trailer for Juliet, Naked. Watch as the Nick Hornby adaptation takes us on a journey of life’s second chances.
Annie (Byrne) is stuck in a long-term relationship with Duncan ( O’Dowd) who happens to be an obsessive fan of obscure rocker Tucker Crowe (Hawke). When the acoustic demo of Tucker’s hit record from 25 years ago surfaces, its release leads to a life-changing encounter with the elusive rocker himself.
Directed by Jesse Peretz, the warm and delightful romantic-comedy from Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate is released on August 17.

Rose Byrne is an excellent actress who
– won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress in Venice in 2000 (The Goddess of 1967)
– stood her own against acting giant Glenn Close in a dramatic role for five seasons (Damages)
– was a scene stealer in several comedy hits (Get Him To The Greek, Bridesmaids, Neighbours, Spy)
– has studio cred as the female lead (Troy, Knowing, X-Men : First Class, Insidious, Peter Rabbit)
– as well as indie cred (Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, 28 Weeks Later, Adam, The Place Beyond the Pines)
Long story short, she has all bases covered. Lead roles, supporting roles, studio films, arthouse fare, television, film, Broadway and that brings me to my point : she now most certainly deserves prestige projects. Sure, she is doing well BUT a “Jackie” or an “Ex Machina” or an “Atonement” or a “Theory of Everything” couldn’t hurt. I’m not saying the actresses who got those roles didn’t play them brilliantly because actually they did, I’m saying Rose Byrne should be in consideration to get those TYPE of roles, as well because based on talent, range, screen presence and charisma, she is in the same league with those actresses and it is high time the industry recognise that. My two cents.
P.S. Yes, this Nick Hornby adaptation looks charming af indeed.
I agree Phantom!
