The Angel of Darkness will be the second Caleb Carr adaptation for TNT.
Millions of viewers can’t be wrong.
As if preordained, TNT has announced a follow-up series to their smash hit, The Alienist. The Angel of Darkness, also by author Caleb Carr, will be adapted as the second entry in TNT’s Suspense Collection. This is being touted as a sequel–not a second season.
Set one year after the events involving Laszlo Kreizler, John Moore, and Sara Howard tracking down a killer, this story involves Dakota Fanning’s Howard as she looks for a missing infant that goes missing after visiting a foreign dignitary. Howard is now a detective, and the novel is set against the backdrop of tensions between the United States and Spain.
Sara Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT said in a statement:
“We could not be prouder of The Alienist’s outstanding, award-worthy performance and all of the work the incredible actors and crew put in to bring that story and time period to life. Our audience fell in love with these multi-dimensional, timeless characters and the journey of their struggles living in complicated times. With this new story in TNT’s Suspense Collection, we will further immerse viewers into their world as they are confronted with a new enemy.”
Does this mean The Alienist, which scored 6 Emmy nominations this season including Outstanding Limited Series, will no longer be considered for that branch of categories? Will it become a Drama Series? The cast is set to return for this latest chapter.
