Julia Roberts plays a mother whose son (Lucas Hedges) returns. He’s an addict who may or may not be clean. The film appears to be an acting showcase for both Roberts and Hedges, but it’s Roberts we haven’t seen in a big, emotionally challenging role like this in a while. Ben is Back will have its World Premiere at the Toronto Film Fest in September.
