I was not initially going to participate in the Gurus of Gold but my pal Gregory Ellwood kind of nudged me into it so here I am again! The Gurus of Gold has new faces, like Tomris Laffly and Jeff Schneider…The first set of predictions is up — you can view them here.
Here is the middle part with the fall festival entries (Tomris is only predicting movies she’s seen):
You can check out our very very early Oscar predictions from last year, and see how embarrassing it is to look back now, here.
Watch out for “The Hate U Give”. It’s as important as is a great film, with narrative and acting strength to spare. It only needs to be seen, but I think is going to be huge. I saw the premiere and it was the whole package. And Amanda Stenberg is amazing in it.
I repeat, watch out for it.
These are my Best Pic predictions, all sight unseen except for Black Klansman.
A Star Is Born
Roma
Black Klansman
Boy Erased
First Man
The Favourite
Old Man and the Gun
The Sisters Brothers
Eighth Grade
Backseat???
The chart from last year isn’t embarrassing at all! Looks like Ladybird wasn’t given as much love but all the heavy hitters (Shape, Billboards, Get Out, Dunkirk) were there.
I’m surprised to see a lot of faith in Beautiful Boy.
Well you guys (but not Sasha) are wrong on Can You Ever Forgive Me. It’s getting into Best Picture lineup. Will be low tier (7th-8th) but it will be nominated. Screenplay, McCarthy, Grant and BP imho.
