I’m so glad they chose to bring back the words of the man whose legacy threads throughout First Man and much of the space program that came after it. JFK never lived to see Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the surface of the powdery soft moon – but he is the force that inspired it. You can’t watch First Man and not think about Kennedy, who he was to this country, the legacy he left behind. It is all the more powerful when pinned up next to the current administration. What a come down, huh? Trump can only inspire hatred. He does not give us hope. Kennedy gave us hope. These astronauts did what seemed impossible. There have been so many good movies about the Apollo missions, most notably Apollo 13, about the that never got there. First Man, though, is about breaking the seal. There can only ever be one time. In the capable hands of Damien Chazelle, we get to go there too. What a movie.
I can’t wait to see it, will bring my nine year old son to see it too. One thing, if anyone watched the episode of ‘Mad Men’, where they showed the moon landing as it was unfolding, it was such a terrific episode that it made you almost believe you were there. Thanks as always Sasha, love your posts XX

I saw the second half of the trailer on the big screen today and cannot wait to see the feature!
It’s yet another great trailer for this film. It looks very inspiring to me and, Oct. 12th can’t come soon enough.
I wrote this elsewhere regarding its possible awards trajectory. What do you think?
I keep saying that though this film is not like Shape of Water, at all … I see some awards parallels.
-Very good reviews, but not OMG undeniable front-runner status (that kills so many films; LLL, Three Billboards).
-Will likely get the most noms on Oscar morning.
-Will likely get a couple/few wins.
-It’s a directorial feat and, AMPAS loves Chazelle.
-Memorable components in the Score, Sound, Effects.
-Could make some money.
-Has had a strong Festival presence.
-Will be present at most of the guilds/strong branch support.
-Will be high on many ballots, while other films might be divisive or too-hyped.
-It’s a film to be taken seriously; has some heft to it.
-AMPAS is warming more & more to Gosling.
-Breakout movie role for Claire Foy; who seems on the cusp. She’s ubiquitous, lately.
I just see it ticking a lot of boxes. Shape of Water didn’t have the exact same boxes, necessarily, but it all came together for that film and, just may for First Man, too. Who knows?
What couple categories do you see First Man winning? Maybe Sound/Visual Effects? I think Claire Foy is the most likely of the majors, but that slot seems destined to go to Regina King or possibly one of women from The Favourite (especially if Colman is placed there). I can’t see Gosling winning, or its screenplay, or Chazelle given the other horses in the race.
Also, reviews for Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Shape of Water were ultimately very similar (88 and 87 on MC, respectively).
You can tell that they really are trying to combat the flag controversy by playing JFK’s speech and adding numerous shots of the American flag in the trailer. It even showed the flag on the moon, but I’m sure some people will still find something to complain about this movie now that they’ve been led to believe it’s anti-American.
This is the best trailer for the film yet, but something tells me it was made only due to the anti-American constroversy that has struck the film. Oh well
