You’ve been with us through the haikus, through the poetry so-called, through the scandals, through the disappointments, through the joys. And now here we are once again on the eve of the Golden Globe nominations. We’ve only been this for twenty years.
You know the rules! You get three chances to predict the morning’s biggest upset. Natalie Portman for Vox Lux is not a No Guts, No Glory since it’s already been called by Jazz Tangcay way back in October (if it happens).
I’ll go first.
1. Buster Scruggs lands in Drama, Director and Screenplay
2. Marielle Heller gets in for Director for Can You Ever Forgive Me
3. Karyn Kusama gets in for Director for Destroyer
Okay, your turn!
My prediction is at least 20 posters will still get this wrong and put predictions that are possible or likely to happen rather than NGNG
My NGNG is hereditary for picture and Alex Wolff for best supporting actor
Too late but I would have said THE RIDER and/or LEAN ON PETE in drama. Alas it didn’t happen.
In two parts:
NGNG:
1. BlacKkKlansman recieves 7 nominations (including two supporting actor nominations, Driver and Bealfonte)
2. Mary Poppins Returns gets only one nomination: best original song for The Place Where Lost Things Go
3. Boy Erased surprises with picture, director screenplay and at least two acting nominations, pushing out First Man from any nominations
Wishful thinking:
1. Burning is nominated for director and screenplay
2. Hugh Grant (Paddington 2)
3. Joanna Kulig (Cold War)
1. Kathryn Hahn (Private Life) in Best Actress – Comedy
2. Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) in Best Actress – Drama
3. First Man nominated in Best Motion Picture – Drama BUT nowhere else.
welcome to marwen gets picture / director / actor
1. Vice completely shut out
2. Michael B. Jordan – Best Supporting Actor – Black Panther
3. Spike Lee – Best Director
1. Emma Thompson for Best Actress (The Children Act)
2. Tilda Swinton for Best Supporting Actress (Suspiria)
3. Margot Robbie for Best Supporting Actress (Mary Queen of Scots)
1. Paddington 2 gets in with at least picture, screenplay and supporting actor
2. Blackkklansman completely shut out
3. Mary Poppins Returns leads nominations with 8 (one short of the record)
NGNG :
1: vice is nominated only for best actor ( bale)
2: rob marshall is nominated for best director ( mary poppins returns )
3 :a quiet place is nominated for best picture , supporting actress , screenplay
I have your number 2 in my regular predictions! Maybe I am going a bit too hard for that movie in my predictions here…
I think it’s fair to predict that (I’m predicting it myself as well), especially considering that they might not go for certain contenders and the list of films that are competing for best picture this year seems to be very short.
Tim Blake Nelson and Michelle Yeoh both in. Green Book in any every category in which it could possibly contest. No Nicole Kidman in any category.
NGNG: I can’t limit myself to just 3 predictions, so here goes:
Rami Malek’s prosthetic teeth take a bite out of Javier Bardem’s prosthetic belly.
John Travolta gets snubbed for Best Actor in Gotti.
Dominic West gets nominated for Colette but Keira Knightley doesn’t.
Barbra Streisand gets a belated nomination for A Star is Born.
Clint Eastwood gets nominated but skips the ceremony, leaving an empty chair.
The Happytime Murders gets nominated for Worst Use of Pornographic Puppets.
Glenn Close gets nominated for putting the High Sparrow in his place.
Tom Cruise gets nominated for oldest Scientologist in a Mission Impossible movie.
Ant-man and the Wasp turn on each other.
Thanos relinquishes the Infinity Stones.
Black Panther gets nominated for Best Foreign Film, the first ever nominated from Wakanda.
Amy Schumer gets elected to the U.S. Senate like her cousin Chuck.
Michelle Pfeiffer gets nominated for impersonating Kyra.
Burt Reynolds gets a posthumous nomination.
Orson Welles gets a posthumous nomination.
Trump tweets out condolences for The Death of Stalin.
Meryl Streep gets nominated even though she didn’t act in any movies.
If Beale Street Could Talk it would probably freak out a lot of people.
Federico Fellini returns from the grave to watch Roma but he can’t figure out how to use Netflix.
Dick Cheney shoots Adam McKay in the face.
Mary Queen of Scots is not The Favourite.
Such creative predictions. Read the post above, everyone.
Saoirse Ronan – Drama Actress
Rob Marshall – Best Director
Awkwafina – Supp. Actress
Mary Queen of Scotts gets in for Drama
Clint Eastwood is nominated for The Mule
Constance Wu is nominated for Comedy Actress
Oh I’ll be pissed if Constance Wu is NOT nominated for Comedy Actress. They’ve nominated many lesser romantic-comedy performances in the past.
Yeah, that probably wasn’t very gutsy.
My horror-themed NGNG:
— Emily Blunt nominated Best Actress Comedy (Mary Poppins) and Best Actress Drama (A Quiet Place)
— One of the kids from Hereditary (Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro) nominated in a Best Supporting category
— Sandra Bullock nominated for Bird Box
I would consider anyone from the cast of Hereditary being nominated for a GG or an Oscar a victory.
Rachel McAdams for Best Comedy Actress
Nicholas Hoult for Best Supporting Actor
Beautiful Boy for Best Drama and Director
And Amanda Seyfried for Best Supporting Actress (first reformed)
That would be amazing
I was coming here for Rachel. Hey, it’s possible. Now I’m thinking the random nom will be Kathryn Hahn (not buying that they’ll love 8th Grade).
1. Jennifer Lopez (Second Act)
2. Blake Lively (A Simple Favor)
3. Rachel McAdams (Disobedience)
P.S. Not NGNG material just wishful thinking on my part but I also really REALLY hope that at least a few from this list will make the cut : Rosamund Pike, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Margot Robbie, Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant.
YAAAAAAS to Blake Lively and Keira Knightley. I think Nicole Kidman is most likely to get a double nod for Destroyer and Boy Erased
Whishaw and Grant are possible. The first Paddington film did well at the Globes.
The first Paddington wasn’t nominated for Globes unfortunately. Hope Paddington 2 makes it most especially Grant.
I thought the first movie got nominated, but in retrospect, that may have been the BAFTA’s.
I would be happy to see both in supporting, Grant for Paddington 2 and Whishaw for Mary Poppins Returns.
Lucas Hedges for Drama Actor in “Ben Is Back”, alongside Julia Roberts in Drama Actress
BlacKkKlansman in the Musical/Comedy categories (including Washington in Actor)
First Reformed for Best Drama
Three more:
1. Anna Kendrick is in for M/C Actress for A Simple Favor
2. Flea gets a Supporting Actor nod for Boy Erased
3. Sorry to Bother You gets multiple nominations (Picture – M/C, Actor – M/C, and Screenplay, perhaps)
1. Daveed Diggs gets into Best Actor – M/C for Blindspotting
2. Suspiria gets in for Supporting Actress (Tilda Swinton), Score, and/or Song (“Suspirium”)
3. Lynne Ramsay gets into Best Director for You Were Never Really Here
BlacKkKlansman shut out.
Close snubbed.
The Mule gets at least one nomination.
Even if no org has seen it? It’s weird that The Mule isn’t even at Warner Bros FYC site.
Vice gets 0 nominations
Glenn is snubbed
Rob Marshall best director
Roseanne is nominated for last spring LMAO
Nice. Except I actually predict Marshall to get nominated. Haha
Hereditary gets 7 nominations (Picture, Director, Screenplay, Music, Actress, Supporting Actress (Shapiro) & Supporting Actor (Wolff or Byrne).
Logan Marshall-Green gets nominated for Upgrade.
First Reformed gets in for Best Picture, but Black Panther doesn’t.
PLEASE. Yes.
Cool! With which one do you agree?
Hereditary all the way. And I’m not huge on First Reformed but appreciate it and didn’t care for Black Panther.
Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born are nominated in the Comedy/Musical category (where they belong). Saoirse Ronan gets nominated for Mary, Queen of Scots even though no one has her down even for consideration. Black Panther gets zero nominations.
No nominations for Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Paul Greengrass gets Best Director nom
Both Nicole Kidman and Emily Blunt are double nominees
Cuaron gets nominated for the most overrated director of the decade.
Lucy Boynton gets nominated for best supporting actress
Roma gets nominated for the most boring movie of the year…
Lucy Boynton SHOULD be in consideration for supporting actress. I know I picked her for my critics groups.
You are the guy from goldderby right? You have A Star is Born for best movie and cuaron for best director..What do you think will happen for best foreign language movie? Is it gonna be Cold War? Can Bradley Cooper beat Cuaron? If the academy wants to engage audiences in my opinion Roma is not gonna make that happen..Would they give the big price to Netflix?
Not only is Roma not winning BP , but Cuaron is unlikely to win BD ..IMHO
Eighth Grade gets in for Comedy Picture
Damien Chazelle gets in for Director
Buster Scruggs gets in for Song
Are those really No Guts No Glory? The first two have a decent shot of actually happening.
Let’s have fun!
Best Picture – Disobedience
Best Supporting Actress – Rachel McAdams (Disobedience)
Best Actress Drama – Rachel Weiz (Disobedience)
Cecil B Demille Award goes to – Angela Lansbury (and also gets in for supporting actress – Mary Poppins)
After all the presidential campaign starting speeches for the Cecil B Demille award lately, they should just give it to Kamala Harris.
1. Ann Dowd gets in for supporting actress for Hereditary
2. Paul Schrader gets in for best director
3. Daniel Kaluuya gets in for supporting actor – Widows
Kaluuya getting in would be cool. I wish he had just a bit more to do in the film (which I liked more the second time around but I still think it’s a bit of a mess), but he’s really good when he’s on screen (“Give him a two-piece spicy”).
nice reference. i thought i was the only one who thought the writing in that scene and others involving Kaluuya showcased the best cinematic touches in the movie.
Golden Globes Noms NGNG:
1. Jennifer Aniston gets in Comedy/Musical Lead Actress for Dumplin’
2. Meryl Streep gets in Supporting Actress for Mary Poppins Returns
3. Blake Lively gets in Lead Actress Comedy/Musical for A Simple Favor
That Streep prediction is a good one
Tamara Jenkins, Director
Colin Farrell, Supp Actor
Dakota Johnson, Drama Actress
Tom Hardy for Best Comedy Actor
Ocean’s 8 for Best Comedy
Paul Dano for Best Director
Vox Lux gets more nominations than BlackKklansman
Amy Schumer nominated for Comedy Actress
Black Panther is shut out
Hereditary gets in with Best Drama
Blockers ends up in Best Comedy
Joaquin Phoenix gets in for You Were Never Really Here
Jake Gyllenhaal for Best Supporting Actor for Wildlife
Gillian Flynn for Best Screenplay, Widows
Joaquín Phoenix for Best Actor in You Were Never Really Here
Eighth Grade for Picture and Actress
First Man fully shut out
Can You Forgive Me fully shut out
