It has all come down to this, folks. Oscar year 2019 is clattering to its inevitable finish – as with all things Oscar, not with a bang but a whimper as bedraggled publicists try to find some sanity amidst an out of control punditry class. What then must we do? We must keep our heads down and get through it, folks! It’s gonna be great! And anyway, there is always No Guts, No Glory to fill the empty space.
Let’s do this. Three choices. Weird and wrong choices but choices all the same. Your call. Here are mine.
Best Picture, Drama – Black Panther
Best Director – Spike Lee, Blackkklansman
Best Actress, Drama – Melissa McCarthy in Can You Ever Forgive Me.
Your turn….!
Dammit, The Favourite missed Screenplay. So far that’s the only one I’ve gotten wrong. 6/7 so far. But now I wonder if that means Green Book also gets comedy film.
1) Blackkklansman wins both Best Drama Film and Best Director
2) A Star Is Born only wins Best Song
3) Black Panther wins nothing
Rosamund Pike wins but the voters love stars so Lady Gaga. Emily Blunt could win.
BlacKKK sweeps!
PS: no globes show here in Portugal. does someone know of a stream for later tonight?
Try Facebook
Any live stream options?
Anyone found a stream to watch it?
NBC Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/nbc/videos/2277685412266069/ (thankful because my AT&T isn’t working)
Actually can see red carpet from phone via this link. Hopefully show appears too…
Several streams on Facebook.
Let’s get this party started. I was catching up on the Kevin Hart thing a little (i.e., I don’t much care) and, lol, I guess and I can now safely go back about not caring the this character’s existence–but, but, how did AMPAS get themselves into this mess? Have they ever heard of betting? Aren’t there some “Academy members” themselves who are PR people? (I mean, they should be expelled, but that’s a conversation for another day). Also who knew we had such a prominent respectability politics flag bearer in Hollywood. I mean, I don’t really pay attention to Ellen’s career beyond when she’s hosting the Oscars (i.e., one night every number of years), but that’s hilarious. I didn’t know.
Let’s get a Golden Globes Winners TBA thread going ya’ll.
Rachel Weisz wins Supporting Actress
I have predicted this!
I’m hoping it happens. She deserves it.
No Guts, No Glory predictions:
Emily Blunt gets in a Twitter fight with Julie Andrews.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association offers new Best Documentary category.
In a surprise appearance, Ruth Bader Ginsburg does one arm push-ups on stage.
Kevin Hart officiates a gay wedding.
Dick Cheney dresses up as Batman.
A Star is Born, emergency C-section.
A hologram of Freddie Mercury sings a duet with Rami Malek.
Glenn Close develops a fatal attraction to Bradley Cooper.
Melissa McCarthy murders an innocent puppet on the red carpet.
Viggo & Mahershala debate who has the funniest first name.
Black Panther becomes vanguard of the revolution.
Ralph Breaks the Internet. No, he really breaks it. Chaos & panic ensue.
NGNG
1. Timothee Chalamet wins Best Supporting Actor
2. Bradley Cooper wins Best Director
3. “Black KKKlansman” wins Best Picture, Drama
Glenn close wins actress film drama
Mahershala Ali wins for green book
Spike lee for best director
Marc Shaiman for Mary Poppins returns: original score
All the stars for black panther : original song
Black panther: film drama
Jim carrey for kidding
Julia Roberts for homecoming
NGNG:
Best Picture, Comedy – Crazy Rich Asians
Best Actress, Comedy – Elsie Fisher in Eighth Grade
Best Score – Black Panther
Bohemian Rhapsody for BP Drama
The Favourite for BP Comedy/Musical
A tie in one or more categories
I can get behind that even though the cast wasn’t invited to the Globes. Know Brian May, Roger Taylor, Jim Beach, Rami Malek, and Lucy Boynton are. And of course BA Drama for Rami Malek!
Best Director: Bradley Cooper (that’s my actual prediction too)
Foreign Language Film: Girl
Song: All the Stars
NGNG
Best Picture, Drama – If Beale Street Could Talk
Best Director – Peter Farrelly – Green Book
Best Actor, Drama – John David Washington – Blackkklansman
NGNG:
— Nicole Kidman wins for Destroyer
— Claire Foy wins Best Supporting Actress
— Lin-Manuel Miranda wins for Mary Poppins Returns but Emily Blunt loses
No one has won for acting as well as song before at the Oscars. In fact, only one person has won for acting and another award (Olivier won BP for Hamlet and even though Benigni won for acting and foreign film, the latter award was not given him personally). Acting is big award and that’s usually enough on its own. I don’t know about others but that seems significant to me.
Interesting. Wouldn’t it be something if BA becomes Close vs Colman?
Just NO WAY Gaga is losing though, right?
Close V Colman would be great.
No way Gaga loses GG but the Oscar is another thing altogether. If there’s a huge and Close wins (not likely) she will be a big favourite for the Oscar.
Well there we go, then 😀
Olivier didn’t win picture for Hamlet either, like with foreign language film nowadays going to the country, best picture went to the studio that made the film in the 1940s, and thus J. Arthur Rank-Two Cities Films won best picture that year
Oh, right. I thought he was the producer must have misread it. So no one has won for acting and other award ever? It seems weird! But it’s also logical.
Barbra Streisand won both Original Song “Evergreen” and Best Actress in a Musical/ Comedy for “A Star Is Born” in 1977.
Not at the Oscars, though. It turns out no one has ever won for acting plus another award, not even Olivier. I thought he won producing “Hamlet” but he only won for acting.
The writers get the Oscar for song, right? Because, in that case, I imagine virtually nobody before Lady Gaga has been nominated for both, so of course no one has won… 🙂
Crazy Rich Asians wins for comedy/musical and/or Constance Wu wins for lead actress in that category. Someone other than Alfonso Cuaron wins for Director.
I fear for the worst at the Golden Globes today. Sasha always tell that “this was a great year for movies”. But in fact, It wasn’t. I feel like were heading to a funeral and the worst is iminent. This is the year where the 9 Foreign Languages Films are better than almost total films choosed by the critics and the guilds. I hope some miracle happens. I have faith in the European and International Contingent of the Academy and that the BAFTAS can shake up things. This looks like 1995 with very populists and weak choices. I don’t know if I can live in a world where Rami Malek is an Oscar winner and Glenn Close is an eternal loser. And a film like BR or CRA could be at the same status as “Schinlder’s List”, “Casablanca” and “Godfather”. Am I alone in this hopeless land?
A Star is Born is shut out.
BlacKkKlansman sweeps.
Roma doesn’t win Foreign.
NG NG
as I have already bet on these, outsiders…
SPIKE LEE
RACHEL WEISZ
MARY POPPINS for best com/mus (I really don’t believe in this anymore though…)
Top facts people is forgetting when predicting:
Gaga just won a Globe for AHS, they can easily pass on her and give it to Close, who never won.
They can award Cooper in acting, producing and screenplay, Cuaron in Foreign and Screenplay. That makes sure that the BKKKM best chance to win is Director. And God knows how due Lee is.
Vice is still, due to noms, the frontrunner, despite how much we tend to think of others. Remember, these are the Globes, not the Oscars
Somehow I doubt that Globe voters think that much about who has and who hasn’t won awards from them yet (think of Kidman winning two years in a row, winning over for example Lane and Moore when she won the second time), or whether someone wins too many awards from them (think of Chazelle)
It must be a simple oversight, but A Star is Born is not nominated for screenplay.
Yes, you are right
Um, Glenn Close “has never won one” you say? She’s won TWO.
Not for a film. TV Globes
NGNG :
1) Emma Stone for best supporting actress ( the favourite )
2) blackkklansman for best picture drama
3) black panther for best score
1. Green Book wins Picture – Comedy and nothing else
2. Vice wins Screenplay
3. First Man wins Score
Willem Dafoe wins Best Actor Drama.
Picture – Drama: Black Panther
Director: Peter Farrelly
Actress – C/M: Elsie Fisher
My NGNG:
Best Drama – If Beale Street Could Talk
Best Actress in drama – anyone but Gaga
The Favorite tooking 4 globes
Best Song – All the Stars (Black Panther)
NGNG:
Some shit will win best comedy
Some good stuff won’t win a thing
and Adam Driver (or John David W) is going to be the surprise of the night because Blackkklansman gets 3 out of 4.
Best Film – Drama: Black Panther
Best Film – Comedy/Musical: Crazy Rich Asians
Oh christ….
BP COMEDY: Mary Poppins
BSACTOR: Rockwell
BACTRESS DRAMA: not gaga or close
Bohemian Rhapsody
Rosamund Pike
Claire Foy
You called it! 🙂 (BR)
My GG 2019 NGNG:
-Nicole Kidman wins for Destroyer
-Mary Poppins Returns wins Comedy/Musical (complicating things more for Oscar Best Picture)
-Hugh Grant wins for A Very English Scandal but says on his speech that he deserves the nod for Paddington 2 instead
Best Actor Comedy/Musical – Robert Redford
No wins for either Green Book or Vice
NGNG:
– All the Stars wins Original Song
– Constance Wu
– Emma Stone
My NGNG:
Best Picture Drama: Black Panther
Best Picture Comedy/Musical: Crazy Rich Asians
Actress, Musical/Comedy: Constance Wu, Crazy Rich Asians
Supporting Actor: Adam Driver, BlacKkKlansman
Animated Movie: Ralph Breaks the Internet
Foreign Language Movie: Capernaum
Original Score: Ludwig Göransson, Black Panther
Original Song: Revelation, Boy Erased
Glenn Close, Best Actress (Drama)
Emily Blunt, Best Actress (Musical/Comedy)
Regina King, Best Supporting Actress/Timothee Chalamet, Best Supporting Actor
Why don’t people understand NGNG? Close & Blunt are literally running second, probably King too.
Only Chamelet is a NGNG
I think there’s an argument for Close (or, frankly, anyone bar Gaga) being NGNG in that race, but agree that Blunt and King don’t really fit the bill…
Rosamund Pike – best actress
NGNG
Spike Lee – Best Director (whatever, he’s the frontrunner for anyone who thinks twice about the race: Cooper will win Actor and Cuaron Foreign Film AND Screenplay… they can’t award Spike Lee anywhere else, and he’s so due for a Globe as he is for an Oscar. Did any black director ever win a Globe? Not, that I remember.
The Favourite shut out of any wins. Not even Colman
Lady Gaga winning Actress NOT Song.
if cuaron wins DGA what are the chances of spike lee??
Very much almost the same. But DGA, I don’t think they are picking a previous winner for a foreign language Netflix film. Never a black director won DGA, am I mistaken? Did Steve McQueen win?
“But DGA, I don’t think they are picking a previous winner for a foreign language Netflix film.”
I like that argument.
I love the Titanic picture. Leo looks so young, and Kate looks like Madonna in the Virgin Tour. Love it!!!
so Hawke could be the first one (?) to miss oscar nomination with trifecta (if that was only thing he won, he slayed the critics season lmao)
A Quiet Place for Score
Requiem For A Private War for Song
Girl for Foreign Film
Mary Poppins Returns sweeps Comedy/Musical categories (Actress,Actor,Picture)
Claire Foy, Supporting Actress for First Man
Can’t think of a third one
Take a bow NSC.

RUNNERS-UP:
Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty, CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? (27 points)
Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, THE FAVOURITE (24 points)
Amazing choice. The Death of Stalin should really get more awards recognition.
A big shock but a good one.

BURNING (27 points)
https://twitter.com/NatSocFilmCrix/status/1081651265371889665
BEST DIRECTOR: Alfonso Cuarón, ROMA (60 points)
RUNNERS-UP:
Lee Chang-dong, BURNING (22 points)
Chloé Zhao, THE RIDER (22 points)
The margins confuse me.
It’s like they’re making up for the previous category. Why did they announce BP before director? do they always do that or was it just for this year? it seems weird.
They did it last year as well. But that time, the number of votes in each category remained roughly the same.
BEST FOREIGN-LANGUAGE FILM: ROMA (44 points)
RUNNERS-UP:
COLD WAR (34 points)
BURNING (30 points)
SHOPLIFTERS (30 points)
These four are really dominating this season.

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY:
Alfonso Cuarón, ROMA (70 points)
RUNNERS-UP:
James Laxton, IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK (26 points)
Lukasz Zal, COLD WAR (24 points)
That is a stunning margin. But I am quite happy with all their choices so far.
Somebody else take over. I have to go.
https://twitter.com/NatSocFilmCrix
BEST PICTURE: THE RIDER (44 points)
RUNNERS-UP:
ROMA (41 points)
BURNING (27 points)
That’s incredible!
Being the last of the three “majors”, NSFC has the luxury to be alternative in the BP choices and give the prize to underdogs. But, yeah, The Rider, is really out of left field (its Spirits Awards win notwithstanding).
Animated goes to Ralph Breaks the Internet
Actress-Comedy goes to Elsie Fisher
Picture-Drama goes to Beale Street
1. Rachel Weisz (although this is my official prediction)
2. Black Panther (although this doesn’t look that ballsy anymore)
3. Timothée Chalamet (to have something truly unlikely. star power plus him losing last year should help, and the category is wide open)
BP Drama – Black Panther
Actress Drama – Pike
S. Actor – Chalamet
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy – Vice
Best Actress, Drama– Glenn close, The Wife
Best supporting Actress – Clair foy, First man.
Best Picture, Comedy – Paddington 2 (oh wait it wasn’t nominated)
Best Supporting Actor – Hugh Grant in Paddington 2 (that’s right they snubbed him too)
Best Song – Trip A Little Light Fantastic from Mary Poppins Returns ( Dang Globes what’s going on this year?)
Best Picture, Drama – Bohemian Rhapsody
Best Director – Adam McKay, Vice
Best Actor, Musical Comedy – Robert Redford, The Old Man & the Gun
Kudos on drama!…
Thanks CCD, never thought it would happen. 24 hrs later, I still can’t believe that it did!
