I’ve never been a huge fan of westerns, so I skipped out on Deadwood‘s original HBO run from 2004-2006. It aired during a bit of a drama renaissance for the cable programmer (including The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Rome) and received 8 Emmys over its run. It’s likely to pick up a few more when HBO releases Deadwood: The Movie on May 31, just in time for the Emmy cut-off window.
Set 12 years after the end of the series, Deadwood: The Movie stars Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker and John Hawkes reprising their original roles. Series creator David Milch writes the film, and Daniel Minahan directs following his directorial duties on the first episodes of the original series plus Game of Thrones and Six Feet Under.
Take a look at the trailer, which has all the hangings and shootouts you’d expect from a western.
Enjoy!
