Netflix is making Hollywood an offer it can’t refuse. Dropped this AM, Scorsese’s The Irishman gives us a look at what it will be like. And away we go.

Random question I thought I should ask here since a lot of you have seen the movie already: about Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, how deeply is it visually showcasing that it’s set in the 60s? Is it for example to the level that seeing it for the first time in a more old-fashioned movie palace-type theater would be beneficial or for example is seeing it on 35mm or the biggest screen that one can find the thing that one must absolutely do the first time around, even if the theatre is more cold and modern?
I honestly can’t speak strongly one way or another re: the specific type of theatre you should see it in, but to answer your first question, I’d say it *very* deeply visually showcases the 60s, and in a few different ways. There’s several extended shots of 60s-style movies-within-the-movie which are delightful, and the actual recreation of Hollywood and its nightlife and houses and landmarks are extraordinarily beautiful, and one of the highlights of the movie for me, for whatever that might be worth
I expected this to be good but the trailer outdid my expectations.
CGI looks spotty on my big TV but, other than that, this looks fantastic!
I hope this one knock it out of the park, I really but. But I am worried. Did you notice how the trailer kinda avoids showing peoples faces in close up, or mouths for that matter, or mouths that are moving while speaking. Every one knows that the mouuth is the hardest element to animate for any CGI artist, to make it look legit. It’s also a very big give away when noticable. Just take a closer look at DeNiro’s and Pesci’s mouths in the final shots of the trailer. Something doesn’t feel right. I am really worried.
Meh. This trailer does little for me beyond Pesci. Look forward to seeing more, but based on this alone, I’m underwhelmed.
The CGI looks good, but I’m afraid I don’t feel sold. Something about the cinematography just looks kinda dry.
But just as good trailers can exist for bad movies, bad trailers can exist for good movies. I’ll still expect a good movie.
Also, I’m looking at the film festival schedules and I find all these national premieres for Parasite happening in September kinda hilarious when I’ve had time to watch it twice in Australia. Kinda the reverse of the usual schedule for foreign movies released here.
I will never watch this because DeNiro is in it, and because he has insulted our president too many numerous times to count. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pick up my hooded robe at the cleaners and watch Tucker Carlson.
Trump is a rude, narcissist, and wildly unprofessional person. But have fun supporting a bad person and not watching this movie. We won’t miss you in Irishman threads.
Unless your post was a weird joke
Next to Jesus Christ, Trump is the most important person that has ever walked the face of the Earth. He tells us so, and darn it, that’s good enough for me.
Agree completely. Looks like just another Scorsese gangster movie . I know a lot of people think St. Marty walks on water but haven’t we been here before . F.I.S.T. , Blood Feud , Hoffa , the ringing phone from Once Upon a Time in America . DeNiro with A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd were in my opinion the movies Goodfellas and The Departed should have been . At least with Silence i didn’t have the feeling of deja vu . Also regarding Joe Pesci in Goodfellas , the character Mark Rydell played in the Long Goodbye was another example of Scorsese ‘s penchant for cinematic borrowing. He also at the end of The Departed copied the cemetery scene from The Third Man .
Chances I see… * denotes I am pretty confident on that nom
Picture *
Director *
Lead Actor de Niro * & Pacino
Supporting Actor Pesci & Keytel
Supporting Actress Paquin * (suffering wife role, previous Oscar, GG winner and the main female role in a male-ridden film… she may even win her 2nd, if the role is meaty enough)
Adapted Screenplay *
Cinematography
Film Editing *
Costume *
Production Design *
Sound Mixing
Sound Editing
Score *
Visual Effects (said to have really impressive de-aging)
Make up & Hairstyle… *
This film seems with potential to stablish a new record in noms and even wins. Now, let’s see if delivers.
Paquin is playing his daughter, not his wife.
Than God, they are nearly 50 years age difference from each other?
Gotta say … this trailer didn’t do much for me … actually it really didn’t do anything for me at all. I feel zero percent more or less excited. Looks exactly like what the names attached to the project a year ago made me think it was going to look like. not trying to rain on everyone’s parade, but I am mildly surprised everyone is so excited for this. Looks pretty, nice score, but also looks kind of … boring? tired? … old? Anyways, I’m hoping I’m proven wrong, because I hate being disappointed by movies and I love loving a good movie. Part of it is I guess it’s hard to take Pacino and De Niro seriously as “gangsters” … again. OUATIH already feels like the more accomplished and fun movie. But … never trust a trailer … I’m willing to be convinced otherwise
Omg. My most anticipated film of the year! Wow wow wow wow wow
This is going to be the movie of the year, maybe the decade.
Pitt vs Pesci should be a crazy race.
Pattinson looks like a serious threat for Lighthouse
This already looks like the mob film Casino SHOULD have been. Marty is 77 and he put out something this assured looking. Wowsa.
Looks excellent but I’m especially here for the Joe Pesci of it all
I can’t breathe
I was pretty worried by the CGI but now I’m not AS worried. The film looks fantastic. Joe Pesci is still the scariest motherfucker in movies.
I wasn’t expecting this to have this kind of epic sweep.
