We assembled our motley crew for another check-in just as the major critics awards get underway. It is, by all accounts, a very very wide open year with no clear solid frontrunners in any category, which makes it anyone’s game.
Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

Kudos to Kevin Dillon for giving the fifth spot to Kang-Ho Song. He is my NGNG this year. It probably won’t happen, but… you never know. Marina de Tavira didn’t show up many times during the precursors.
Lol Bening placeholder but none for the Bombshell script Sasha supposedly likes and which seems more likely to get a nom than Knives Out (which I enjoyed and found better than Irishman or OUATIH, for what it’s worth).
Sasha Stone changes her mind every time. Yesterday she listed Driver 6th here im this site. Today he is 2nd
Pryce was 2nd now is out of top 5. Eddie Murphy was 5th now is 3rd
How can Popes be this liked and not get a single acting nom
That’s weird indeed
I love this. It’s kind of lining up how I personally see things ending up as of today. The films and performances I think will make it are included and those i am scratching my head about seeing so many predicting it/them are fringe or not making the cut. For the most part anyway.
Serious question for Sasha (or anyone who’s seen 1917), is the editing for 1917 that impressive that it makes the cut for the top five slots? If the film is made to look like one continuous shot (a la Birdman in 2014), wouldn’t that hurt the film’s chances of getting an editing nomination, just as Birdman failed to, given the one continuous take thing? Thanks in advance, can’t wait to see the film in a few weeks!
