Kay, you’re supposed to be looking for a Cold Souls trailer we can embed. Stop wanking around. You’re not on break.

Hmm… I’m still interested in this, it has a nice Kaufman air to it.
but i’m not sure that the trailer got me any more excited.

The Public Enemies clip on Apple was a little disappointing. The video of it they posted is very washed-out looking.

(I’m uploading the Cold Souls trailer to YouTube right now, i’ll post the link when its done)

I tried to find a version of the clip with better contrast, George, but maybe it’s shot that way for an authentic ’30’s indoor murkiness? Natural ambient light? Dunno.

^ i’m comparing it to the trailer, which had the same scene with a much richer look to it. You can tell the clip is washed out because of the blank parts at the beginning. They are grey rather than black.
Its an exclusive clip by Apple though, so there isn’t going to be a better quality one.

I uploaded Cold Souls to Youtube:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiFXdLbebIE

it takes a few minutes for the quality to jump up to HD.

Yeah, I noticed the pale title card too. They probably don’t want us reassembling the entire movie out of clips the way we can with Inglourious Basterds.

      ;-)

      Um, Eternal Sunshine much?

Wonder how big Ambrose’s role is.

Giamatti is great. He had one of the most underrated acting performances in the last 20 years when he played Pekar in American Splendor.

This looks like the kind of film that makes my heart smile… I’m totally there.

As I’ve mentioned beforre, the premise of this movie is very similar to Robert Sheckley’s “Goodbye Forever to Mr. Pain” (except in that story the characters undergo “Ego removal” not “soul removal”. Considering the story’s relative obscurity I am willing to go the makers of the movie a benefit of the doubt. Nevertheless, the parallels are unmistakable.

By the way, after watching this trailer I have a guess about how this movie might end.

      (POSSIBLE) SPOILER ALERT!!!

I may be very wrong, of course, but one glance on IMDb’s page confirms my suspicion. The movie is listed as Comedy and Drama but not Science Fiction (I hate using the term Sci-Fi).

So I’m guessing that the whole operation is a placibo, which explains the fact that Paul’s soul goes “missing”. He sets off on a quest to find it, it takes him to strange places and as a result he ends up finding himself.

Man, wouldn’t that makes for a terrible film (something Doland Kaufman would have written, perhaps?)… So I hope I’m wrong here.

This seems to be a rip-off of Eternal Sunshine…

It looks like an interesting enough movie … but damn I would love to know what the song is at the end??? It’s driving me mad!

“The first time I saw The Hurt Locker, I had forgotten who the director was. As the film unfolded I kept saying to myself, “Wow, whoever directed this really has a unique intellect and highly focused directorial vision.” I knew that this film was different, that it had a depth not usually seen in a film set during wartime — but I didn’t know exactly how or why I was experiencing this reaction. When the end credits rolled, my “aha!” moment arrived. “So it’s a woman!” I thought, “It all makes sense to me now.”

Yet, I believe that Bigelow won the DGA — and quite possibly will win the Oscar — not because she’s female but because she did excellent work. Some voters may choose her to make some kind of political or feminist statement, but Bigelow’s name wouldn’t be on that ballot unless she deserved to be there.

Some claim that the dearth of awards recognition for female directors is because there are so few good female directors. To me, a statement like that ignores the fact that bias has prevented more women from getting good material to direct.”
