The Informant! trailer

Posted by Ryan Adams On June - 30 - 2009

Nothing embeddable yet, but you can click on over to Apple trailers for a look at The Informant trailer, and here in HD. (Since when did they add the exclamation point to the title!? I’m twice as excited now!!)

[UPDATE: Thanks to Alex Billington at First Showing for loaning us a portable version of the trailer.]

informant2

Not exactly what I expected, but nothing wrong with a little biting satire to brighten the year, I guess.

Oh wow this looks great :)
I didn’t even realize it was going to be a comedy.

  2. Hunter June 30th, 2009 at 7:55 pm 2

    Bwahahahahaha! Can’t wait!

  3. amanda June 30th, 2009 at 8:07 pm 3

Yes!! Finally something I have been looking forward to that looks like it will live up to my expectations.

  4. bambi June 30th, 2009 at 8:07 pm 4

This is going to be a great year for comedy. I totally expected Informant to be like Insider but this looks fun. Which lowballs its chances, I guess.

  5. Mojo June 30th, 2009 at 8:10 pm 5

This looks great. And it has Joel McHale in it!

  6. Yvette June 30th, 2009 at 8:27 pm 6

Soderbergh’s movies are kind of starting to look the same to me. This clip was a bit Ocean’s-esque for my taste.

  7. dela June 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm 7

    A comedy!
I am looking forward to it.
I hope Matt Damon doesn’t become annoying after first 15 minutes.

  8. Euan June 30th, 2009 at 9:38 pm 8

How did no one see this coming? Did they just forget to mention it was a comedy, and we all assumed the worst. Oh, I’m all excited about this for once.
Also Joel McHale and Buster Bluth, my mind is blown.

  9. Ryan Adams June 30th, 2009 at 9:43 pm 9

I think we all heard corporate agri-business + Soderbergh and instantly thought, Oh, more Shiva, God of Death, except with brains and style this time.

  10. Pablo June 30th, 2009 at 10:09 pm 10

Very typical i think. Won’t do much in box office nor in awards season.

  11. The Natural June 30th, 2009 at 10:25 pm 11

Looks great, reminds me a bit of one of last year’s very best films, “Burn After Reading.” Coming out around the same time, too.

  12. Xavi Rodriguez June 30th, 2009 at 10:26 pm 12

At least “The Informant!” will have a few nominations for GG (Especially for Damon). Guys, if I remember since the begining, Soderbergh said in a few interviews that film was a black humor comedy. I’m agree with bambi, a good year for comedy

  13. austin111 June 30th, 2009 at 10:31 pm 13

I sure hope it is nothing like Burn After Reading which was quite a letdown in my opinion. A very minor Coen bros. flick. Not even very funny really, with a rather deflated punchline ending. This looks like fun and Damon looks really good here. Clearly he’s having a blast and looks totally relaxed. I’m in.

  14. Chamboosy June 30th, 2009 at 10:58 pm 14

This had completely dropped off my radar. It’s going to be fantastic no doubt!

Couldn’t agree with you more austin111 – Burn After Reading had some good moments in it, but when Clooney unveiled that chair, I was neither laughing or disgusted, just extremely confused. (Also, I don’t think that Soderbergh would get rid of the heart and soul of the film halfway through either like the Coen’s did).

Thanks God this will be nothing more than a Golden Globe Nomination for Matt Damon.

Thanks God he will only be nominated for ‘Invictus’. It will be a crime if he get double nominated.

I have heard amazing things about Scott Bakula – one of my favorites from his kick ass “Quantum Leap” days (okay, that was a pretty popular show, so I shouldn’t make it out like he isn’t well known) – so it would be something if he could garner supporting actor nomination talk.

I can’t lie, I’m just not excited by this trailer. I’ll see it if the word of mouth is good but Matt Damon simply does nothing for me. I’ve seen all of his highlights and have yet to be convinced by him. People rag on Ben Affleck but at least he has a certain amount of charisma.

I get the Burn After Reading comparisons but this looks like Burn After Reading Lite to me, which is a problem since that film was essentially Coen Bros. Lite (even though I did quite enjoy it).

  18. iggy July 1st, 2009 at 2:07 pm 18

It’s just me or Damon looks like a younger William H. Macy in some shots?

  19. bambi July 1st, 2009 at 2:11 pm 19

yes! I knew he looks like someone but couldn`t remeber who. You are so right. Macey it is.

Bull. There wasn’t anything about “Burn After Reading” that was even remotely minor. A hillarious comedy that worked on more levels than you’ve understood.

  21. Rob Y July 1st, 2009 at 3:27 pm 21

Matt reminds me of Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading.

  22. Aaron July 1st, 2009 at 3:49 pm 22

    Hahaha @ 20

If you didn’t like a movie that I did, then you obviously didn’t understand it.

  23. Noah R. July 1st, 2009 at 3:55 pm 23

It is minor, Proman. I understood it, I laughed quite a bit, but it still ranks on the lower side of the Coen Bros. mostly superb canon. What are you so mad about? I still really liked it. Overreacting as usual.

  24. chrisw July 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm 24

Soderbergh may not give up halfway through a movie, but he’ll sure give up for 9 years. Don’t give me that Che bs either, the film/s weren’t that great. Here’s hoping he makes a good movie again.

“I think, of all the films this year… maybe “The Hurt Locker” too… “Up in the Air” will be considered the definitive film of 2009 when we look back in 2019. It’s too raw for people to appreciate now. I’m thinking of 1976 when the Best Picture Award went to “Rocky” over both “Network” and “Taxi Driver” which are far superior films, but “Rocky” struck the populist chord (“Avatar”). “Up in the Air” is similar to “Network” in that regard, because it’s taking a very sharp knife to the world it’s trying to dissect, yet still conveys fairly human emotions. In ten years we’ll be thinking, “how did they not pick ‘Up in the Air’ for best picture?” Of course I’m assuming it loses, but maybe it still has a chance… who knows.

I for one was absolutely captivated and riveted by it, and would love for it to get recognition it deserves. Great Film.”
