Just Jared has shots of a beat-down Christian Bale as Dickie Ecklund, an ex-con on the skids whose younger brother Mickey Ward (Mark Walberg) gets him off drugs and back into the welterweight boxing ring in The Fighter. Originally meant to star Brad Pitt, Matt Damon trained for the role before it ended up in Bale’s hands. Likewise, Darren Aronfsky has passed the director’s reins to David O. Russell. Also starring Amy Adams and Melissa Leo, the film is based on Keith Dorrington’s 2001 documentary about the fall and rise of Dick Eklund.

weird.
I cannot wait for the screaming fight that Russell and Bale are going to get into. I also cannot wait for Bale to work with a director who will hopefully require him to act again.
This is going to be crazy. I’m sure Walhberg and Bale will get the best out of each other and this Bale guy changes his appearnce a lot, he looks the part at least.
The picture on the right must have been taken on Sunday, because that’s what he was wearing when he came into my Borders store in Back Bay.
Is he playing a punk boxer? Look at the picture of the left.
Interesting cast to go with the story. I’m curious to see the results.
OVERRATED!
Jesus, Bale. How much weight has this man gained and lost in the last decade?
Christian Bale and David O’Russell?! Really?! I hope O’Russell has a good health insurance plan…
I cannot WAIT until his career is over.
I’m starting to think that Bale is going the Russell Crowe route. When he downplays his tough guy persona, he’s acting. When he’s supposed to be tough and bad-ass, he phones it in. The more I think about The Fighter, the more hopeful I am for a return to form. Rescue Dawn is on TV right now and he’s so good in that film, and again, he allowed himself to become emaciated.
