Still have serious doubts about this film, despite the fact that I think that Clint Eastwood deserves worship – without faniticism, of course.
Matt Damon is yummy. Especially in short shorts.
Cool, where’s the superlate trailer?
I love Morgan Freeman and clint Eastwood. They made two Masterpieces, one in particular is one of my favority movie ever: Million Dollar Baby.
But Matt Damon… Well, i don’t think that he is a good actor. He work well, not suprise me.
AND I STILL BELIEVE THAT PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON HAD MADE THE BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY OF 1997: BOOGIE NIGHTS.
that oscar sucks!!
What happened to Matt’s butt? That was like the only thing I liked about him.
As far as the movie goes, they should include how Mandela reacted when he realized that aliens were being sent to internment camps. Soccer, schmoccer.
Here are a couple of videos of the event that the movie is based around.

The victory of South Africa in the Rugby World Cup in 1995. Just after apartheid ended, for a moment a divided society was united in South Africa becoming world champions by beating the fearsome New Zealand All Blacks in the final.
Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar, the captain of South Africa, and a legend in the Rugby world. Rugby had always been seen as the sport of the white minority, football (soccer) the favoured sport of the African majority. But Mandela saw the immense spiritual and symbolic potential of holding the Rugby World Cup in South Africa, and using it as a source of cross-cultural, cross-racial unity. And it really did play out like that. For a brief moment in time, South Africa was united in the great victory of their Rugby team. Mandela and Pienaar together became symbols of this.
I am looking forward to this movie, I am really interested to see how it comes together. There is obvious ‘Oscar bait’ potential, but I’m just not cynical about it. I remember the immensity of the occasion, I want to see how it is transmuted into cinema.
I was wondering the same thing. Those shorts are a weird fit.
“But Matt Damon… Well, i don’t think that he is a good actor. He work well, not suprise me.”
Shit I wished bad actors acted as well as Damon.
I mean, he is fucking Jason Bourne.
f**** CLIT-wood. wtf does he know about south african culture? mr.let-me-make-race-jokes
I don’t know, Matt Damon in rugby shorts is doing all sorts of things for me
I love Matt Damon. End of Story.
Those shorts are distracting. But in a good way.
maybe spike lee will forgive him? Haha, he will probably be just angry that he didn’t get to the material first. But I don’t think he really cares about Mandela. I mean, he did make a Malcolm X movie instead of a MLK Jr. movie. What does that tell you? But I digress.
Looks like a good movie. Can’t wait.
“But I don’t think he really cares about Mandela. I mean, he did make a Malcolm X movie instead of a MLK Jr. movie. What does that tell you?”
W – Because for better or for worse, Malcolm X as a historical figure arguably got the shaft and not given his supposed fair day in dramatic court. And not just in mainstream (white) narrative, but also with the American blacks as well.
Also, the MLK Jr state wouldn’t sell the rights to his life story until what, earlier this year to Spielberg? Even then the rights might get tied up in litigation.
Spike Lee speaks his own mind, and certainly I’ve disagreed with him alot over the years. Like his attack on Eastwood, as if it was Dirty Harry’s fault for Hollywood not giving black WW2 veterans any respect. But none the less, sometimes I like to hear his perspective.
Also he visited my college. No I’m not biased.
*side-eye*
Isiah Whitlock (aka Sen. Clay Davis in The Wire) absolutely needs to play MLK Jr.
Can’t wait to see this movie! Not sure if Damon is going to pull of the South African accent though- Invictus also has a really cool Facebook fan page!
