Amanda Seyfried in Chloe

Posted by Sasha Stone On September - 15 - 2009

Roger Ebert writes mysteriously about Chloe, saying that it reminded him of a movie but if he even says the title it will be a major spoiler — eroticism….Cat People? The Last Tango in Paris? The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea?  Meanwhile, Amanda Seyfried may finally get people taking her more seriously — although fans of Big Love already know what she can do.  She’s also great in Mamma Mia and in Mean Girls:

We expect [Julianne] Moore to be a consummate and fearless actress, and so she is. The surprise is Amanda Seyfried. This is not the kind of role she’s been playing: Bold, sensuous, intelligent. In this same Toronto festival, in “Jennifer’s Body,” she plays the victim and foe of a teenage demon (Megan Fox). She does a good job, but with “Chloe” you fully realize that here is an actress worthy of serious consideration.

“Chloe” is a remake of a 2006 French film called “Nathalie”, starring Fanny Ardant (Julianne Moore), Emmanuelle Beart (Amanda Seyfried), and Gerard Depardieu (?).

Seyfried was better than McAdams in Mean Girls, not that McAdams wasn`t great. But hers was a classic show-stopper vixen role, while Seyfried was less exposed but did wonders with what she had. Now that McAdams went the safe post-Notebook sugar-coatted route, the future belong to Seyfried when it comes to taking risks. I hope she gets a nom.

Amanda needs better roles, She has up next a Nicholas Sparks Movie.

It’s Lily Kane! I’ve loved Seyfried ever since her Veronica Mars days.

Is this movie coming out this year?

I would love to see the original Nathalie also.

I first noticed her in Mean Girls (hilarious in it). Seyfried is making all the right moves. She’s trying to get people of all ages to notice her and she’s working with Hollywood’s best. She just finished a film with Vanessa Redgrave. Lover her on Big Love too.

She asked me how to spell “orange”.

Again, from THR: “Moore and Neeson…beautifully underplay their roles…But it’s Seyfried…who makes a major impression, adeptly navigating the twists and turns of her character’s not-so-apparent motivations. She’s definitely emerging as Toronto’s 2009 It girl.”

Outshining Julianne Moore & Liam Neeson is impressive. Hers is the actress nomination I want to see most after Streep’s (though Seyfried’s in supporting). She’s great in Mean Girls, great on Veronica Mars where Lilly was the only other character I loved besides the titular character despite only guest appearances in half of the first season, and great on an SVU episode as a rape victim which is possibly my favorite ep of the show…and is quite good besides that (Yeah, SVU has a lot of non-good episodes…).

I love Seyfried but she was NOT better than McAdams in Mean Girls.

i’m guessing the spoiler movie reference is …

    fatal attraction.

Another AMC star makes it big….you go girl!

  14. Seankgallagher September 15th, 2009 at 7:13 pm 14

Fred, Liam Neeson plays the role Depardieu played in NATHALIE.

Of course, I’m very happy Seyfried’s been getting all this attention.

    to reiterate, man she’s hot.

[...] As I mentioned above Roger Ebert felt particularly strong about Chloe and says the true surprise is Amanda Seyfried, who might now be taken seriously as an actress. (via Awards Daily) [...]

Love Seyfried. God, I hope the movie it reminds him of isn’t “The Crying Game.”

Huh, I didn’t know that the director of the original directed Coco avant Chanel, which has an outside contender in Tautou for Actress. It’d be interesting if a remake of one of her films has an acting contender the same year as one of her films…though I’m guessing there’s a low chance for a major acting nom from either film.

I watched parts of Nathalie online. I got bored. Chloe has dropped off my To See list…MC gives Nathalie a 69; RT Cream of Crop average 70.

I still want Seyfried to get a nom, sight unseen, based on liking her other work so much. A Woman of No Importance from an Oscar Wilde play and co-starring Annette Bening sounds promising too…

“I think, of all the films this year… maybe “The Hurt Locker” too… “Up in the Air” will be considered the definitive film of 2009 when we look back in 2019. It’s too raw for people to appreciate now. I’m thinking of 1976 when the Best Picture Award went to “Rocky” over both “Network” and “Taxi Driver” which are far superior films, but “Rocky” struck the populist chord (“Avatar”). “Up in the Air” is similar to “Network” in that regard, because it’s taking a very sharp knife to the world it’s trying to dissect, yet still conveys fairly human emotions. In ten years we’ll be thinking, “how did they not pick ‘Up in the Air’ for best picture?” Of course I’m assuming it loses, but maybe it still has a chance… who knows.

I for one was absolutely captivated and riveted by it, and would love for it to get recognition it deserves. Great Film.”
