Betty White to receive SAG Lifetime Acheivement Award

Posted by Ryan Adams On September - 15 - 2009

With 6 Emmys and 18 nominations, Betty White adds another trophy to her mantle this year. THR reports the the Screen Actors Guild will honor Betty with its Lifetime Acheivement Award.

White is best known for her roles as the deceptively sweet Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and the sweetly naive Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls.” She has also made her mark as a passionate animal activist.

“Whether creating some of television’s most indelible characters, plunging into film roles with joyous gusto or perfecting the art of the quip as a television panelist and host, Betty White has entertained audiences with her impeccable comic timing and remarkable wit for more than sixty years,” SAG national president Alan Rosenberg said.

At 87, Betty White is wittier and naughtier than most actresses of any age. She’s my favorite guest on Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show, my favorite character on The Golden Girls and probably my favorite character on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, too. (Did you know you can watch full episodes of the MTM show on IMDb? Me neither, until today.)

Well deserved. Betty White was always talented and ridiculously funny. Say what you want but I still catch re-runs of The Golden Girls from time to time and it’s amazing how hilarious it is till this day.

Rose Nylund and Sue Ann Nivens are two of the most indelible characters in television history. Betty White, at 87, is truly inspirational. I am hoping she gets more recognition for her scene-stealing in “The Proposal.”

Couldn’t they find a talented person?

    4. JR September 15th, 2009 at 4:03 pm 4

You won’t know what talent is if it hit you in the face Afrika or is this fake Afrika?

    5. Ryan Adams September 15th, 2009 at 4:14 pm 5

Real Afrika is suspended in spam limbo for a week.

Faux Afrika, your work here is done. Thanks for the satiric assist but your services aren’t needed for the time being, ok?

Fabulous choice! I thought the way she and Bea Arthur played off of one another in The Golden Girls was perfect. I’ve loved her since watching her on The Liar’s Club when I was a child. Yay for Betty!

I love her! She deserved it!

“National treasure” is the phrase that immediately came to my mind, but Sertain beat me to it!

White certainly does have “it” — and she’s been doing it for so long that she truly deserves this recognition.

Betty White is in possession of just about the best comic timing in Hollywood, period. So cool to see someone funny get an honor this big. Usually they get a roast, but no tribute. If anyone deserves respect, it’s her.
