5 Minutes of The Princess and the Frog

Posted by Ryan Adams On October - 7 - 2009

Beautiful. For me, seeing the various stages of animation evolve is almost more interesting than the story that’s unfolding. Effective reminder that these renderings are hand-driven and not hard-driven.

My 2nd-most anticipated for the year, after A Single Man.

The clip is cute; animation’s top-notch as usual. Though given that it’s a Disney film, I can’t help but wonder which parent will die. I’m guessing the dad since he talked about a dream he has, which I’m guessing she will fulfill in honor of his memory…

Is it really necessary to use a token white girl for comic relief? Some stereotypes never die :-)

Not feeling it at all. Animation top notch, but where’s the soul? Aladdin, Mermaid, Beauty this ain’t

Losing interest with each clip shown,

yeah, I didn’t want to say so explicitly in the main page, Tufas, but when getting a look at the preliminary sketches is more interesting than the story, not a good sign. Doesn’t matter how pretty the artwork may be when the plot is paint by number.

You can tell all that from 5 minutes Tufas?

I’m not saying you’re wrong…if anything I get a sense of Same Shit Different Milieu, but I find that oddly comforting.

A classic? Maybe not, but it’ll be better than another one of those goddamn Ice Age movies.

Ummmmm, is that still Oprah’s voice as Eudora, her mother. Cuz that don’t sound like her.

But that looks beautiful. Can’t wait!

Oh not just 5 minutes, Craig. This is not the only scene(s) from the movie made available to the public; add the trailers, production featurettes, I’m just saying: in everything I’ve seen, so far, while production values are sky-high, there is no feeling, and for a movie set to bring back the true disney princess, not getting the viewer to empathize with the title characters…. Dangerous ground there.

But one of my Top 3 favorite films of all time has been Beauty and the Beast, since it was released, so I still have my hopes about this new 2D effort, and I hope there are a lot more to follow

This is going to be a great film and a return to the traditional animation I’m used to seeing. What interests me is that it’s hand-drawn not hard driven and the black and white photography is cool. I think they must’ve rotoscoped that’s scene.

The movie should win the Best Animated Feature category over UP since Up will be nominated in the Best Picture Category from the prediction charts and spreadsheets.

Beautiful indeed…enjoying it very much so far. Can hardly wait!!
