So You Think You Can Oscar

Posted by Sasha Stone On November - 4 - 2009

Why did it take me so long to put two and two together, that Adam Shankman, producer of the Oscars, is also Adam Shankman from So You Think You Can Dance?  I don’t watch reality shows but that is one I really like.  And I’ve always watched Shankman on the show — yet my brain never made the connection.  Okay, so now I have a lot more faith that the Oscars is going to be pretty great.  Shankman – if he can bring even half of the excitement of So You Think You Can Dance to the Oscars it will be a great show.  Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be reason enough to watch.  Good calls all around.  Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Really?? Not even the press release gave it away?? This is an Oscar watch website right???

Wow, really?? that’s why we have the Internet for research. Did you know that he’s directed movies such as The Wedding Planner, Bringing Down the House, Hairspray and A Walk to Remember??? He’s directed Steve b4 so Im sure It will be a great show. I don’t agree with the expansion to 10 BP nominees though, I think it will take away the escence of the show which is to award the most Oscars to the best of the best of the year.

Speaking of criticisms of 10 best pic nominees, there are a few public gripes coming out including Jane Campion:

I LOVE SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!……just thought I would throw that out there

I should also mention that Adam Shankman made Hairspray, and I found the choreography and production design of that film astounding.

I’m pretty sure Sasha knows Adam Shankman’s film credits, but the fact that he’s a judge on the dance program was news to me too. My remote is programmed to skip FOX channels.

more dancing? no please. After last year’s event looking like a bad performance at the Tonys, I think they should take a different route.

And please, have the great Beyonce perform again. Thank you :)

They should so have Meryl present best picture!

Just out of curiosity, what happens if ‘It’s Complicated’ is a major critical hit and Baldwin or Martin find themselves with nominations? Will they have to step down? Talk about awkward.

Perhaps insiders know that will not be happening ;)

I only know So You Think You Can Dance from Talk Soup clips, but I think I can safely conclude that if he is even partially responsible for the content of this show, he is insane.

I guess you and I haven’t seen the same performer perform AFRIKA. Like I said once before Beyonce is terrible and should be banned from the Oscars. They try to give her all these roles in which if she was a good actress she’d get nominated for sure but come on! she sucks. I like her music but she is as fake as that bunch of blonde hair in her head. Anyone who agrees with me can I get an AMEN? …….

As long as Mary from SYTYCD isn’t anywhere near the ceremony, I think we’ll be okay. Hell, if she’s in the same city we’d probably still be able to hear her. They should exile her from California for the day.

lol @ adrian2nano,Jay-z and Etta James (Who are all possibly the same person)

Why are you guys hating on the most beautiful woman in the world? why are you hating on her royal highness QUEEN BEY? why? Beyonce is Jesus so don’t hate. Don’t hate on BEYSUS

BEYSUS Giselle Carter-Knowles forgives you and invites you to watch this video which proves she is the greatest performer and singer alive.

I think that Beyonce is so overexposed right now–I like her enough, but I don’t see her as Hollywood material–not yet, anyway.

Re: Shankman. SYTYCD is one of my favourite shows as well, but Shankman is just a judge (a good one, but still just a judge) and isn’t involved in producing it, so he really has no say in how that show is put together other than helping to select the contestants. Where his background does come into play, I think, is his combined experience with Broadway and Hollywood. That is what will make the difference, I think.

“I think, of all the films this year… maybe “The Hurt Locker” too… “Up in the Air” will be considered the definitive film of 2009 when we look back in 2019. It’s too raw for people to appreciate now. I’m thinking of 1976 when the Best Picture Award went to “Rocky” over both “Network” and “Taxi Driver” which are far superior films, but “Rocky” struck the populist chord (“Avatar”). “Up in the Air” is similar to “Network” in that regard, because it’s taking a very sharp knife to the world it’s trying to dissect, yet still conveys fairly human emotions. In ten years we’ll be thinking, “how did they not pick ‘Up in the Air’ for best picture?” Of course I’m assuming it loses, but maybe it still has a chance… who knows.

I for one was absolutely captivated and riveted by it, and would love for it to get recognition it deserves. Great Film.”
