4th annual Behind the Camera Awards

Posted by Ryan Adams On November - 4 - 2009

Movieline Magazine and sponsor Hamilton Watches honor the following filmmakers on November 8:

  • Kathryn Bigelow, True Grit Director, The Hurt Locker, presented by Bill Paxton
  • Lawrence Bender, Super Producer, Inglourious Basterds, by Diane Kruger
  • Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, 500 Days of Summer, by Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt
  • John Mhyre, Production Designer, Nine
  • Christian Berger, Cinematographer, The White Ribbon, by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
  • Dana E. Glauberman, Film Editor, Up in the Air, by Jason Bateman & Anna Kendrick
  • Ann Roth, Costume Designer, Julie & Julia, by Tippi Hedren
  • Drew Petrotta, Property Master, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
  • Garrett Warren, Stunt Choreographer, Avatar, A Christmas Carol
  • Susan MacLeod, Special Visual Effects, The Twilight Saga:  New Moon, by Nikki Reed
  • Sally Menke, Lifetime Achievement, presented by Christoph Waltz, with a taped salutation by Quentin Tarantino

Hosted by Elvis Mitchell.  No details on who chooses the winners, but it’s an fairly faultless list.  Especially nice to see Christian Berger recognized for his elegant work on The White Ribbon.

      hooray for Christian Berger!!!

not so much for 500 Days of Summer, whose adulation I just don’t get.

Looks like the director you’re rooting for this year is winning that Oscar, right?
But boy it would be amazing if Bigelow won the Oscar. She really gave the most gifted riection in THL.

I wouldn’t say this is a reliable precursor by any means, Kay, but I think it’s better to win something than to win nothing. Same rationale behind this post. It’s not a high-profile awards ceremony, but the choice is between posting the winners or posting no awards news at all — ’cause there’s nothing else happening today.

Still it gives me hope! And it’s good to be back on the awesomeness known as AD! Missed this website.

    5. Ryan Adams November 4th, 2009 at 4:46 pm 5

Missed you too. Where have you been?

    6. Kay November 4th, 2009 at 4:53 pm 6

Well school has started for me again and I’ve just been so busy. I’ll try to visit more, specifically during awards season! ;)

    7. Ryan Adams November 4th, 2009 at 5:05 pm 7

      I see. So it’s Vacation > AD > Studying.

    8. Kyle November 4th, 2009 at 5:06 pm 8

Can we at least correct whatever website this is from – The White Ribbon is the work of Michael Haneke.

    9. Ryan Adams November 4th, 2009 at 5:10 pm 9

I’m pretty sure Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is just the person who’s presenting the award to Christian Berger, Kyle.

Just as Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt are names as presenters to hand the screenplay award to Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber.

    14. Glenn November 7th, 2009 at 2:40 pm 14

How the hell does someone win an award for Nine when no one has seen the bloody film?

      Awards are crap sometimes!!!!
