“The Academy is composed of mostly older members making this movie a dark horse. The acting is top notch, the dialogue is intelligent, and the subject matter is timely. The weighted ballot system may just push this deserving movie to the top of the heap.
Reitman’s picture is the most consistent of the nominated films I have seen, with each scene adding to the whole. Reviews have stated that some of the firing scenes were unnecessary and detracted from the film. In an odd way, they provided relief from all the tense personal relationships in the film, so I believe that the many interviews were valid.
Up in the Air’s kind of ending, somber, isn’t what is keeping it from being a mainstream hit at this point. The content that deals with job loss is the biggest detractor above all else, even though the subject matter is handled with expertise. Movies with somber endings are dominating the award season. Up in the Air, Precious, Avatar, and The Hurt Locker have far from rosy endings.
I agree that it appeals to older adults because of its subject matter. Job loss, lack of commitment, and the feminist bent of the film add up to something many forum posters will not champion because it doesn’t appeal to their young sensibilities. However, youth does not rule the Academy.”

More like “First Wife’s Revenge Fantasy.” Never going to happen in real world.
I’m glad they included just a tad more Steve Martin compared to the first trailer. Looks like a cute and fun film.
Looks even more like Something’s Gotta Give, but with past marriage, than ever. I rewatched it recently, and though Keaton carries the film well enough that I enjoyed it the first time, she’s not enough to make me like my 2nd viewing. I’m guessing It’s Complicated will be similar.
I honestly do not get the ” buzz” surrounding this film. Especially after the trailer.
The only bit I don’t like is when Baldwin says “OMG”. Do people really say “OMG” in real life, when “Oh my God” is probably easier to say? Just seems so forced.
Apart from that, I can’t wait to see this.

I don’t know if there’s anyone Alec’s age saying it regularly, but amongst the Under 25 crowd, it’s pretty common at least from what I’ve observed.
Then again I say “sigh” as opposed to actually sighing…
It looks like Alec Baldwin waxed his body for this movie…
CAll me crazy but I actually think Meryl might have a better chance at that 3rd Oscar with this film. I mean if this is anything as good as Something’s Gotta Give then sheis in it to win it. Remember Diane Keaton almost almost got it for that movie which was a romantic comedy? I don’t know people you all talk about Julie & Julia but Meryl looks really good here.
It would make me happy if Streep wound up with Martin at the end of this movie. But it will probably end predictably with her going back to Baldwin.

I know plenty of people that say Oh Em Gee. I’m guilty of it. And I find it hilarious someone Alec’s age would say the same thing.
That kind of wit won an Oscar for Juno.
Maybe lightning will strike twice.
