Awards Daily Top 100 of the ’00’s Project

Posted by Ryan Adams On November - 9 - 2009

mood

The week the Times UK and The Telegraph both put together controversial lists of the Top 100 films of the decade.   A worthy undertaking with interesting, if Brit-centric, results.   I think we could assemble an alternative Awards Daily Top 100 of ’00’s that would beat both those two all to hell.   The question is, with that many titles to wrangle, not sure how best to go about it in a way that’s manageable.

Suppose we start out a year at time — maybe do a poll of the top 12 or 15 films from each of the past 10 years in sequence.  Then combine the yearly lists into one grand poll at the end December to determine the final order.   53 days left in 2009, so we’d need to poll for a different year roughly every 5 days.  Would that project get in the way of the increasing Oscar drama, or be a stress-relieving distraction?

We could start suggesting titles for the best of 2000 right now, and measure the interest that way.  As soon as we reach 30 titles I’ll put the first phase of the poll together.  Combining the National Board of Review and AFI Top 10 lists from 2000, we have 5 overlaps and these 15 movies to start seeding the first poll, The Best of 2000:

Almost Famous
Before Night Falls
Billy Elliott
Best in Show
Croupier
Dancer in the Dark
Erin Brockovich
Gladiator
High Fidelity
Quills
Requiem for a Dream
Sunshine
Traffic
Wonder Boys
You Can Count on Me

      I only count 10…?

Requiem for a Dream definitely needs to be on the list.

      Cast Away
      Erin Brockovich
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Almost Famous or rather Untitled
      O Brother, Where Art Thou?
      Chicken Run
      High Fidelity

    2. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 11:29 am 2

The Telegraph list has these titles from 2000:

      Together
      Memento
      Amores Perros
      The Gleaners and I
      In the Mood for Love
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

The Times has these 2000 additions:

      Yi Yi
      Chopper
      Battle Royale
      Under the Sand
      Being John Malkovich

    3. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 11:30 am 3

oops, thanks Thomas. I forgot to add the combined list.

    4. Noah R. November 9th, 2009 at 11:31 am 4

I’m going to throw in my vote for Chopper, the vastly underrated crime drama that proves Eric Bana can be brilliant when he wants to be. Likewise American Psycho re: Christian Bale.

    5. Kay November 9th, 2009 at 11:32 am 5

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind definitely deserves to be on this list.

    6. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 11:38 am 6

Near the top of the 100, Kay. No doubt it will rank high on the 2004 list, but today we’re just talking about 2000.

    7. Jason November 9th, 2009 at 11:38 am 7

almost famous is my all time favourite movie. ever.
best in show is definitely in my top 20. mad love for requiem for a dream…amores perros should be on that list too.

i thought you can count on me was great but maybe a tad over rated…?

    8. murtada November 9th, 2009 at 11:40 am 8

You Can Count on Me is the movie I return to time and again from 2000.A finely calibrated drama between brother and sister, it touches and breaks my heart every time I see it.

Billy Elliot was the best movie for 2000 for me at the time. What a beautifully told story about the things that matter to all of us: family, identity and wanting to take charge of our lives.

At the time Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the most amazing and visually stunning thing I’ve ever seen on the big screen. I whopped with joy at the fantastical sword fighting scenes yet the story and the performances got me too. It was the movie that made me realize Ang Lee was one of the best directors working in contemporary cinema.

    9. TAC November 9th, 2009 at 11:48 am 9

Wonder Boys is by far the most underrated, underappreciated movie of the decade. By far.

    10. Dean November 9th, 2009 at 11:50 am 10

      Add:
      Amores Perros
      The Cell
      and of course Crouching Tiger…

Also you need to define criteria for what year a movie is since some e.g. Memento are debated. May I suggest using US release not at a film festival on IMDB?

    11. Johan November 9th, 2009 at 11:50 am 11

Perhaps the number of entries per year should depend on the year? We wouldn’t want the great movies of 2007 not to make the cut.

    12. limeymcfrog November 9th, 2009 at 11:51 am 12

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon must be on this list… It would contend for my favorite of the decade.

Amores Perros (if the right year) would be a great selection.

Pollock was not my favorite, but should be on a top 30 list.

O Brother Where Art Thou deserves a spot.

    13. Jon November 9th, 2009 at 11:52 am 13

For me, SIDEWAYS is my favorite film of the 2000’s. I know there was a typical, huge backlash to the film when it was initially released, but that was in my opinion just bullshit. The film itself gets better and better every time I watch it. Personally, as great as NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THERE WILL BE BLOOD and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN were, in my opinion SIDEWAYS was the great American film made.

    14. cdmc November 9th, 2009 at 11:56 am 14

      For 2000:

      In The Mood for Love
      Yi Yi
      Tears of the Black Tiger
      George Washington
      The Circle
      I’m Going Home
      The Gleaners and I
      Platform
      Werckmeister Harmonies
      La Commune (Paris, 1871)

    15. charlie November 9th, 2009 at 11:59 am 15

      Don’t forget:

      The Circle – Jafar Panahi
      Faithless – Liv Ullman
Songs From the Second Floor – Roy Andersson
      Code: Unknown – Michael Haneke
The Gleaners and I – Agnes Varda

    16. Ross November 9th, 2009 at 12:06 pm 16

      2000:

I’ve never really liked the pretentious TRAFFIC or the flashy, pop corn flick GLADIATOR. No connection here. When somebody asks me about 200, WONDER BOYS is the first film I’m thinking of. It was brilliant. The script, the actors, the mood… It just worked on so many levels and what makes it special is that it didn’t feel orchestrated. It felt natural. It’s sad that it didn’t get major awards’ attention. Of course, it got some nominations, but it should have been a best picture contender.

    17. seasondays November 9th, 2009 at 12:07 pm 17

      add to that list

      american psycho
amores perros [released in 2000 in mexico meaning its us release was later]
      bring it on
      x-men

    18. Noah R. November 9th, 2009 at 12:08 pm 18

I thought Traffic was great at the time but I watched it again about a year ago and I could barely get through it. I found it incredibly dated even though we aren’t out of the decade yet.

Oh and I’d also like to add Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, which wasn’t released in the US until 2000.

    19. Andrew Falcao November 9th, 2009 at 12:18 pm 19

      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      In the Mood for Love

These two NEED to be on the list for 2000. Period. Dot.

And what else do I pick?

      Dancer in the Dark
      Before Night Falls
      Traffic

    20. Rafaela November 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm 20

      Memento
      Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

    21. Benjamin Zuk November 9th, 2009 at 12:20 pm 21

Cast Away should be on this list for 2000.

Also, to a lesser extent The Contender is a film I’ve always thought of as one of the best of this year, but if you’re only going to accept one of my suggestions please make it Cast Away

    22. DBibby November 9th, 2009 at 12:20 pm 22

I think this is a great idea Ryan- far from being an unwelcome distraction!

Are we counting US release date, a la the Oscars? Is In the Mood for Love 2000 or 2001? In my opinion it’s the greatest film of the decade, so I don’t want to leave it out!

Based on US release date, my top 20 would be:

      Requiem for a Dream
      Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
      Memento
      Nurse Betty
      Traffic
      Before Night Falls
      Billy Elliot
      Best in Show
      Chicken Run
      Girlfight
      High Fidelity
      Soft Fruit (1999)
      Shadow of the Vampire
      Almost Famous
      O Brother, Where Art Thou?
      You Can Count on Me
      Cast Away
      Wonder Boys
      Chocolat
      Dancer in the Dark

(In the Mood for Love and Amores Perros were both made in 2000 and would have made the list, but were not released in the US until 2001. Germany’s The State I Am In would have also but never got a US theatrical release )

    23. Rafaela November 9th, 2009 at 12:25 pm 23

Uhhh, In the mood for love is sooooooooooooo beautiful! It should definetly be on the list =)

    24. Rafael November 9th, 2009 at 12:28 pm 24

      Why so early?? The decade isn’t over ’til December 31, 2010!!! 2001… 02… 03… 04… 2010 (2000 belongs to the 90s and the 20th century!)

    29. Pablo Yáñez November 9th, 2009 at 12:33 pm 29

I think this is a wonderful idea… go ahead with it.

I can’t really remember all 2000 films i’ve seen so i’m just gonna mention my top ten based on the films that have been tossed around here. This is considering In The Mood For Love and Memento for 2001

      @ Armando

Yes, but any ten-year period is a decade, and here we are concerned with the 2000s (i.e., 2000-2009).

    34. OscarMovieBuff84 November 9th, 2009 at 12:54 pm 34

Are we looking to get 10 from each year or just a combined a hundred?

For 2000 these are mine: Gladiator, Traffic, In the Mood for Love, Crouching Tiger, Requiem for a Dream, Almost Famous, Amores Perros, Best in Show, Quills.

@Ryan so I’m guessing you’ll be trekking through these to compile the 12 or 15 films for each decade for the poll.

    35. Ken November 9th, 2009 at 12:58 pm 35

Until I saw this, I forgot all about You Can Count On Me, that was such a great film. I really gotta re-watch some of these films before I start popping out lists.

    36. UncleVanya November 9th, 2009 at 1:02 pm 36

    37. Derick November 9th, 2009 at 1:08 pm 37

I can’t be one of the few who really loves The Contender and Nurse Betty. Both are so good and should definitely have consideration.

    38. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 1:12 pm 38

I really like Nurse Betty, too, Derick. I like how the threat of violence was dead serious amidst all the frilly delusion.

    39. UncleVanya November 9th, 2009 at 1:13 pm 39

I would have included Being John Malkovich, but it was my #1 pick for 1999.

    40. srh1son November 9th, 2009 at 1:30 pm 40

      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

      Memento
      Amores Perros
      Princess and the Warrior
      Faithless
      The Road Home
      In the Mood for Love

Personally, I think 2000 is the weakest year of the entire decade.

    42. Scott November 9th, 2009 at 1:36 pm 42

      Traffic
      Amores Perros
      Cast Away

      The Virgin Suicides

    45. DBibby November 9th, 2009 at 1:55 pm 45

I love Nurse Betty too Derick. Funny yet unnerving, grisly yet poignant. Great film, fantastic performance from Renee. My #4 of the year.

    46. Kholby November 9th, 2009 at 2:06 pm 46

      This is a Brilliant Idea.

Now I can make lists of all the movies that you guys think I should see, that I haven’t.

      Yes!

Talented Mr. Ripley (Nevermind – Damn those December releases)

    47. Ugolin November 9th, 2009 at 2:25 pm 47

Songs From The Second Floor should definately be on the list for best of 2000 but the film hasn’t been seen by many.

I’d also add that if you consider Memento to be a 2000 film, then I would definately add that too.

    48. Jack Kyser November 9th, 2009 at 2:36 pm 48

Wonder Boys is just one of the finest movies made this decade. It is still so very underrated. I love Almost Famous, as well.

    49. Thomas November 9th, 2009 at 2:39 pm 49

      Minority Report.

    50. Jerry Grant November 9th, 2009 at 2:40 pm 50

Of all the films this decade, “Wonder Boys” may be the most re-watchable. I absolutely love it.

    51. Emad Ozery November 9th, 2009 at 2:46 pm 51

      crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Requiem for a Dream
      Almost Famous
      Yi Yi
      Traffic
      You Can Count on me
      Dancer in The Dark
      Chicken Run

    52. Kholby November 9th, 2009 at 2:54 pm 52

Minority report for sure, but it’s 2002!

    53. Skyler November 9th, 2009 at 2:59 pm 53

Glad that You Can Count On Me and Wonder Boys were added to this list. They are two very under-appreciated films that are actually about something with two of the best screenplays (one original, one adapted) from the past 10 years, easily.

    54. The Mark Johnson November 9th, 2009 at 3:00 pm 54

If you could only list one film from 2000, it should have been Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon… how did this get left off the list?
      My ten are as follows:
      1. Croughing Tiger…
      2. Gladiator
      3. Traffic
      4. Meet the Parents
      5. American Psycho
      6. Castaway
      7. Malena
      8. Almost Famous
      9. The Contender
      10. Requiem for a Dream

    55. The Mark Johnson November 9th, 2009 at 3:02 pm 55

Oops… put Memento #3 for me… thought that was 2001. My bad.

    56. Clayton November 9th, 2009 at 3:06 pm 56

      Amores perros
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Emperor’s New Groove (one of the most neglected Disney movies)
      Meet the Parents
      Memento
      O Brother, Where Are Thou?
      The Patriot
      Requiem for a Dream
      Return to Me

    57. Chris Price November 9th, 2009 at 3:28 pm 57

I’ve done 20 for every year this decade, so I’ll just post them as you guys post these articles. Here’s 2000:

      Requiem For A Dream
      Almost Famous
      American Psycho
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Gladiator
      Before Night Falls
      Cast Away
      Traffic
      Best In Show
      Dancer In The Dark
      Bamboozled
      High Fidelity
      Ghost Dog
      Chuck And Buck
      Amores Perros
      Jesus’ Son
      Meet The Parents
      O Brother, Where Art Thou?
      Nurse Betty
      The Virgin Suicides

For the record, Memento is technically a 2001 film, given that it only played a few festivals in Europe in late 2000 and wasn’t released commercially until March 16, 2001.

    58. Other Ryan November 9th, 2009 at 3:38 pm 58

For me there are only two films in 2000 that I keep coming back to time and time again:

      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Billy Elliot

    59. Manuel November 9th, 2009 at 3:43 pm 59

So are In the mood for love and Memento in 2001? If so my list would be like this:

      Requiem for a Dream

I think IMDB’s year listing for movies should be the final word. It accounts for worldwide release dates and would help ease confusion with these yearly polls.
So, for instance, Being John Malkovich would be 1999 and thus not eligible for this list. Memento would be 2000 since it released in the UK in 2000 (even though the US release date was 2001)

And since some years were not as great as others, there should be an eleventh poll that serves as the wild card one. A handful of movies from each year that just missed out on the top 10 to be put into a big poll. The top 20 or so are chosen to be placed with the ranking of the other 100 gathered from the ten chosen each year. Then after the rankings, whatever comes in 101 to 120 can be cut from the list, resulting in the possibility of the stronger years being better represented in the final 100.

My votes for the top 10 of 2000:

      Almost Famous
      Amores Perros
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Gladiator
      High Fidelity
      Memento
      Requiem for a Dream
      Traffic
      Wonder Boys
      You Can Count on Me

On the issue of dates, George, I have to agree that we need an objective arbiter and IMDb listings are dated consistently. The titles I tossed together to get us started were lifted from a lot of sources and I didn’t make an effort to crosscheck. This won’t be as big an issue for movies from the middle of the decade, but for the earliest cutoff point, we’ll have to draw the line.

    64. shirley November 9th, 2009 at 4:13 pm 64

      AMERICAN PSYCHO WAS GREAT!

    65. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 4:13 pm 65

“And since some years were not as great as others, there should be an eleventh poll that serves as the wild card one. “

I thought what we might do for the final comprehensive poll is take the top 15 films from each year, and rank the top 150 films. That should help account for stronger years with an orderly method — and also show us which movies just barely missed making it into the top 100.

Ivan @ 26: Thank you so much for mentioning Our Lady of the Assassins! Great film.

      Dancer in the Dark
      Gladiator
      The House of Mirth
      Our Lady of the Assassins
      Timecode
      Water Drops on Burning Rocks
      Wonder Boys

Also, I don’t really love the idea of 15 films from each year – I think some years are much stronger than others eg. 07,02 – many, many wonderful films vs. 06,03 – pretty weak field.

    70. SaltireFlower November 9th, 2009 at 4:44 pm 70

    81. thomas sentina November 9th, 2009 at 6:05 pm 81

btw i’ve noticed a lot of these entries were movies that did not come out in 2000 (i.e.: amores perros, snatch) so whoever is monitoring this i would be careful to note that

    82. Ryan Adams November 9th, 2009 at 6:29 pm 82

I think we’ve agreed to go by the release date listed on IMDb, thomas. Amores perros premiered at Cannes in May 2000. Snatch opened in the UK in August 2000.

    83. Chris Price November 9th, 2009 at 6:41 pm 83

My list is absolutely subject to change as there are many movies I haven’t seen this decade that would most likely be on this list if I had (In The Mood For Love, Wonder Boys, Yi Yi, Syndromes And A Century, Hunger, A Christmas Tale, You Can Count On Me, etc.)

Not to mention the films from this year that haven’t been released yet that I think have a shot (A Prophet, The White Ribbon, Up In The Air, Fish Tank, Dr. Parnassus, Broken Embraces, Fish Story). This list actually will probably not be locked ever. Too many movies were released in the last 10 years to even begin to assume that I’ve seen enough of them to have any perspective. Although I have seen 70% of the “They Shoot Pictures” Most Acclaimed Films of the 21st Century list:

      http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21stcentury_allfilms.htm

I agree with some of the other talkbackers regarding the method of how we compile this list. 2005 for example is an obviously weak year for film. I’d be hard pressed to find 15 movies that truly deserve to be a part of a Top 100 or even a Top 150 of this decade. There should be a slight curve in the rankings to take something like this into account.

    84. Charlie November 9th, 2009 at 6:50 pm 84

Further essential films that have gone unmentioned:

Virgin Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors
      Mysterious Object at Noon
      Little Otik
      Hamlet

    85. Bob Burns November 9th, 2009 at 7:01 pm 85

      1. Dancer from the Dark
      2. Burnt Money
      3. Billy Elliot
      4. O Brother Where for Art Thou?
      5. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
      6. Amores Perros
      7. Before Night Falls
      8. Chocolat
      9. Pollock
      10.Traffic

    86. Devlin November 9th, 2009 at 7:21 pm 86

2000 offered an interesting array of films. My top 10…erm, 11, would be:

Almost Famous (definitely #1, would be in my top 10 of the decade)
      Amores Perros
      Best in Show
      Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
      The Emperor’s New Groove (underrated!)
      Gladiator
      O Brother Where Art Thou?
      Pollock
      Requiem for a Dream
      The Virgin Suicides
      You Can Count on Me

I can never seem to narrow it to just 10. It’s funny, when I think about films from 2000, at the time I would’ve definitely had Traffic and Quills on my list. But, after watching them again in the past few years I feel they haven’t aged well. For me, at least. They still have their merits though, especially Joaquin Phoenix’s great performance in Quills, the movie he should have been nominated (and won) for that year

    87. Nic November 9th, 2009 at 7:22 pm 87

      1. Quills
      2. Crouching Tiger

      Toy Story 2

    94. bharatnayak November 9th, 2009 at 10:26 pm 94

I think High fidelity and Memento should be on the list.
I’m obsessed with lists and I’ve always wanted to do a top 100/250 movies of the decade list. But being slightly unfamiliar with the early 00’s(00-04),it’ll definitely take time. The shortlist here will definitely help.
      Heres what i could find.

    97. Noah R. November 9th, 2009 at 11:57 pm 97

      I can’t believe I forgot this film.

You must, MUST have an option for The Filth & The Fury, Julien Temple’s documentary about The Sex Pistols which I can say with absolute certainty is the best documentary I have ever seen.

    98. Gar November 10th, 2009 at 12:37 am 98

2000 seems to me to be a tremendously weak year, though I admittedly haven’t seen as many films from that year as I have from other years.

There seems to be some confusion about “Memento”. It’s probably my all-time favorite film of the last 10 years. I’ll vote for it in 2000 and ‘01 if that will get it on the list ;-)

      1. “Memento”
      2. “Requiem for a Dream”
      3. “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
      4. “Yi Yi”
      5. “Almost Famous”
      6. “Gladiator”
      7. “American Psycho”
      8. “Chicken Run”
      9. “Traffic”
      10. “Battle Royale”

    99. Nick November 10th, 2009 at 1:47 am 99

      1. In the mood for love
      2. Yi Yi

    100. Bob November 10th, 2009 at 2:44 am 100

      Requiem for a Dream
      Gladiator
      Best in Show
      Snatch

Overall, not a great year for movies.

    101. Dominik November 10th, 2009 at 3:09 am 101

      How lovely, Ryan!
You posted a screen shot of one of my favourite movies of the decade in front of the article!
“In the Mood for Love” is my choice for 2000!
(one step in front of “Wonder Boys”)

    102. passportradio November 10th, 2009 at 4:40 am 102

      5) Before Night Falls

    103. Brian Owens November 10th, 2009 at 9:29 am 103

Any list that doesn’t include Yi-Yi (not meaning a personal list, but some sort of compendium) doesn’t count. So you’ve got to put Yi-Yi on there.

Well, my original entries that i had listed were purely based upon U.S. release dates for each film so if we’re counting first run even if it was first seen in a different country, then my new list would look like this:

      3. Memento
      4. Traffic
      5. O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I think this year was so good because some of 1999 (one of the best years for film ever) rubbed off in it. Also, I’ll never get nor will I ever like Almost Famous.

      1. Wonder Boys
      2. Yi-Yi
      3. Unbreakable
      4. High Fidelity
      5. American Psycho
      6. Way of the Gun (don’t know why this film never caught on, its way better than Usual Suspects. Poor, poor Christopher McQuarrie)
      7. Timecode (way ahead of its time)
      8. O Brother
      9. George Washington
      10. Jesus’ Son (underrated)

    110. Mike November 10th, 2009 at 5:01 pm 110

      1. Dancer in the Dark
      2. Gladiator
      3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      4. Cast Away
      5. Billy Elliot
      6. Requiem for a Dream
      7. High Fidelity
      8. Erin Brockovich
      9. American Psycho
      10. The Cell

    111. J Clark November 10th, 2009 at 6:59 pm 111

      1) Requiem For A Dream
      2) Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
      3) Wonder Boys
      4) Amores Perros
      5) Quills
      6) Before Night Falls
      7) Dancer in the Dark
      8. Billy Elliot
      9) American Psycho
      10) Best in Show

I would count Memento on on my list for 2001.

    112. Chamboosy November 10th, 2009 at 11:06 pm 112

Definitely would include Lantana, Samson & Delilah, American Psycho, The Insider, Requiem For A Dream, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, The Descent, High Fidelity.

    113. Dominik November 11th, 2009 at 3:48 am 113

      10. Dancer in the Dark

    114. NICOLAS November 11th, 2009 at 4:57 am 114

More of a stress-relieving distraction I would say!I am game!

      1) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

    116. Ryan Adams November 11th, 2009 at 2:31 pm 116

You guys have risen brilliantly to this task. Some impeccable lists here. I’ll put together the first poll tonight and we’ll get this party started.

    117. T.J. November 11th, 2009 at 6:04 pm 117

      GEORGE WASHINGTON
      Amores Perros
      Werckmeister Harmonies

Of the films not on the list, these are the ones that desperately need to be added. Also, Erin Brockovich and Gladiator suck and belong nowwhere near the best of the decade.

    118. Dan November 12th, 2009 at 4:03 pm 118

      The Gleaners and I
      Werckmeister Harmonies

    119. KCfromCA November 18th, 2009 at 2:18 pm 119

      1. Yi Yi: a one and a two.
      2. Crouching tiger, hidden dragon.
      3. In the mood for love.
      4. Amores perros.
      5. You can count on me.
      6. Wonder boys.
      7. Almost famous.
      8. Chocolat.
      9. Memento.
      10. Before night falls.

    120. chrisw November 18th, 2009 at 2:37 pm 120

    121. Ryan Adams November 18th, 2009 at 4:56 pm 121

We’ll get rolling on 2001 tonight, chrisw. I’ve been wrapping up off-site work so I can devote full attention to movies for a couple of weeks now.

“Awards don’t matter. Never have, never will. It is still possible, however, to follow the awards season and enjoy it as a spectator of the politics of Hollywood, which I relish in. As Manhola Dargis said, they’re bullshit but we love them anyway. I do not watch the Oscars to see my opinions validated, but that doesn’t stop me from smiling when my favorite films are recognized by anyone, be it this small organization or the Academy Awards

If you think the Oscars are a serious indication of quality then there are no two ways around it: You are an idiot.”
