Stanley Tucci talks to the LA Times about the darkness of The Lovely Bones:
“My wife had read the book,” Tucci said. “I can’t read anything that’s about a kid that gets raped or whatever. I can’t deal with that. And I had difficulty accepting the role. I really did. I told Peter I may not see this movie. I can’t handle stuff like this.”
He then explains how he could go from the lightness of Julie & Julia to the darkness of “Bones”:
“I think there are all these different people inside of us,” Tucci said. “Every person is a multiple personality, and people role-play when they go to work, in their relationships. I think of the classic example of the librarian who lets her hair down. There are personalities that everyone has, and actors just have decided we’re going to explore as many as possible before we die — in front of people.”
Stanley Tucci’s wife died earlier this year. The ups and downs of life are hard to fathom sometimes.

Plase give this man the Oscar, he was wonderful in Julie & Julia.
So sorry about his loss.
What a beautiful man and actor. I can’t wait to see him in this!
It`s so sad to hear about his loss. It was a long-lasting marriage which is so rare today let alone in Hollywood. I hope he`ll get nominated for either J&J or LB because he`s fantastic.
Here is an actor that consistently delivers great performances. I’m so glad that he’s considered this year for a spot. I haven’t seen The Lovely Bones yet but I think that his turn in Julie and Julia should really be praised.
He was brilliant in Julie and Julia and he’ll probably be as good in The Lovely Bones. He deserves a nomination.
He is always at the top of his game. Great character actor.
I really believe that Stanley Tucci has a better chance to be nominated for Julie & Julia, than for The Lovely Bones. The chemistry between Tucci and Streep is great.
Is nice that day by day more people are seeing that. I hope he win for J&J. He totally deserves it.
Some people scoff when I bring it up, but I really think he was snubbed for Devil Wears Prada.
I think he’ll get a nod for LB along with Saoirse and Sarandon.
He deserves to be an Academy Award Winner. I love you Stanley Tucci.
i think it’s stanley tucci’s year. with 2 great performances, how can he lose?
I almost felt as if Stanley Tucci was channeling something from his own marriage in Julie & Julia, as if he knew in depth what that kind of long-term companionship means. I didn’t realize his wife had died. That’s so sad.
He’s a wonderful actor. I hope he hits it out of the park with Lovely Bones.
One of the most underrated actors of all time. He’s quite the scene stealer! I hope he gets recognized (finally) this year.
He’s amazing. I loved him in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, even though the movie flopped. He’s so versatile.
He’s currently filming a musical set for release next year as well. I’m not sure if he’s singing but he plays a former dancer and the movie stars Christina Aguilera and Cher. No joke.
Tucci’s title role perfomance in 1998 HBO tv movie “Winchell” (with a great cast: P. Giamatti, C. Plummer, G. Headly) is one of my favorites in the last 20 years. This guy is great.
