Brian Eno is scoring this? Awesome!

Tucci is leering very well. I hope he gets nominated. There are also reviews by reliable sources(you know who does not belong in this category).

It`s Guardian review that actually made me wanna see it. It`s supposed to be negative but it revealed what changes Jackson which is all positive for me. He kicked out Mom`s stupid affair with the police officer. That never made sense in the book and is,IMO, good thinking on script-writer`s part. Also, graphic depiction of murder and rape was just for the shock value but had no real reason to be in the book. Therefore, not showing it is a good decision.

I’ve got goosebumps all over watching this clip.

  4. lop November 24th, 2009 at 4:54 pm 4

that is true bambi there are reviews by xan brooks

  5. Chamboosy November 24th, 2009 at 4:54 pm 5

Looks pretty darn good – Tucci looks certainly satisfying.

    here is the review..

Sounds like Jackson toned down the over-the-top shock-til-its-schlock violence and sex as well as sideplots that were really fillers in the book, and focused on Susie and Harvey. From those early reviews, I gather that, of all the cast, only Ronan and Tucci have a shot (and excellent one, at that) at the nomination.

Lop, that sounds good to me. I don`t know what they wanted. More abuse? Watch Presh, Guardian!

Also, my fave negative thing said about this movie gotta be “too creatuve for its own good.” Lolz @ creativity being negative. Sad state of Hollywood minds, sad state. That was some “insider” last week. His blurb should be on FYC. “Too creative for its own good”. Lmao!

  8. lop November 24th, 2009 at 5:03 pm 8

i know i read that one too and it was like “too creative” isn’t tha how is supposed to be?…ugh. so many critics..

does it still have a chance for best picture nomination or even win?

  9. bambi November 24th, 2009 at 5:08 pm 9

BP nom yes, win depends on boxoffice take (it costed $100 mio to make, after all) more than reviews, that I expect will be more positive than negative when all is said and done, despite mixed early ones. Should play very well with GGs. However, this year is going to be quite interesting as there`s no clear frontrunner. I wouldn`t be surprised if LB won GG but didn`t SAG or something. Don`t feel that any movie so far has the backing to sweep all awards. More like No Country/Atonement type of situation. Unless Avatar trully f***s eyeballs or Sherlock Holmes lives up to Hunter`s hype. Thoise two are still offically unseen.

Why do I get the creepy feeling bambi is just being nice in order to lure me into her underground lair?

  11. Roark November 24th, 2009 at 5:25 pm 11

A second clip(of Susie and Ray) has been released aswell…

  12. bambi November 24th, 2009 at 5:30 pm 12

Nah, I`m not going Tucci on you, Ryan! Would never make Taji an orphan, OK? I`m just glad that Jackson recognized what didn`t work in the book and removed it or toned it down which is, from my POV, big fat, Screw you, Alice. Yep, they acknowledged in the backhanded way that her prose wasn`t all that. I`m a happy camper. Justice is done.

Susie and Ray clip is a weird choice since the story is something totally else. Attempted bait and switch marketing?

  13. lop November 24th, 2009 at 5:34 pm 13

i think the clip about susie and ray is supposed to show the innonce of the character and the youthness(sp?) that she had…

  14. Dan November 24th, 2009 at 5:40 pm 14

I’m really surprised Paramount released a poster like this reminding people of the child molester aspect. A bit icky if you ask me. Pretty poster, though.

  15. lop November 24th, 2009 at 5:47 pm 15

i have also read so many good reviews..=]

  16. Anna November 24th, 2009 at 5:57 pm 16

Loved the poster. I’m not surprised that they’re reminding people of the molester aspect. They have to make it a little more obvious. Otherwise, people that aren’t familiar with the book might think it’s just another fantasy/Peter Jackson project.

    The trailer gave me chills.

  17. dela November 24th, 2009 at 6:06 pm 17

Just as I was losing some interest in the movie, this clip has pulled me back in. The clip seems to be leaning more towards thriller aspect instead of a drama.
Ronan is great the second clip. She seems so self-assured.

  18. salma November 24th, 2009 at 6:18 pm 18

I’m rooting for Tucci this year, whether for this or Julie and Julia. He deserves an Oscar as a great actor and a great human being. I love him. But surely I won’t love him in this, so scary the way he looks.

  19. sakul November 24th, 2009 at 6:37 pm 19

Tucci looks very good and scary…!

  20. Mark November 24th, 2009 at 6:56 pm 20

Tucci is in for Supporting Actor. Although I think it could be for Julie & Julia. I’m not so sure that Ronan can make the cut here though. The Supporting Actress lineup this year is pretty tight.

  21. Calahan November 24th, 2009 at 6:58 pm 21

I got goosebumps. Stanley Tucci is the best from that clip.

  22. bambi November 24th, 2009 at 7:32 pm 22

Call me crazy but “romantic” clip is creepier because the guy with the accent is so obviously 25 (is he really supposed to pass for a 14-15 years old, lmao?) and she is actually game for kissing.

  23. JR November 24th, 2009 at 7:51 pm 23

Tucci will be in for this. I don’t think Julie & Julia will be that big of a hit with AMPAS, at least not so much that they will reward Tucci a nod for it. He looks very creepingly good here.

  24. salma November 25th, 2009 at 3:16 am 24

    Sorry JR,

” I don’t think Julie & Julia will be that big of a hit with AMPAS ”

But it already is. You’ll see! But still I don’t know for which film Tucci makes the cut.

“I have just come from seeing Crazy Heart. I am always skeptical when it comes to award circles honoring veteran actors for a mediocre role, but in reality, it’s for their body of work. A sympathy vote. Before I saw Crazy Heart, Jeremy Renner clearly gave the best performance. I heard that Jeff Bridges’ character was a washed-up alcoholic country singer trying to clean his act up. Truly redundant and repulsive Oscar bait. I mean, that just reminds me of Robert Duvall winning for Tender Mercies! Alcoholics almost always guarantee an Oscar nomination, and perhaps even an Oscar! (Ray Milland in The Lost Weekend, Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou, Thomas Mitchell in Stagecoach, Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas). Now I’m not saying Jeff Bridges is a horrible actor. He’s a pretty good actor. I loved his earlier work, like The Last Picture Show and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Even in Starman, I found him hilarious (weird, right?). So, from word of mouth, I figured Jeff Bridges would not be all that great. I was wrong.

Bridges put himself into this character so much, I almost forgot it was Jeff Bridges! I know, that’s hard to swallow, even for me! But he was on top of his game! Obviously, the movie had certain problems, but the movie was Jeff Bridges. Some may say his performance is subtle. True. It is a bit subtle. But it was just the little things Bridges does with his body movement, the way he speaks, his reaction to others, his singing (wow!), how he interacts with the little boy, how I looked deep into those tired blue eyes and saw the soul of this wrecked person. Bridges creates a character that you can believe. I mean, it IS easy to believe someone like Bridges playing this character, physically and otherwise. Along with my amazement Bad Blake come to life, I also pondered on the side of Bridges’ acting career as a whole, and put both the lives of Bridges and Blake and compared the two. The feeling was just too overwhelming.

If Jeff Bridges wins the Oscar (and after seeing his performance, I am pretty sure he will), it will not be a sympathy vote. Jeff Bridges brings a complex character to life with that special king of magic persona he shoots off the screen. I am for Jeff Bridges winning the Oscar.”
