Bit of a slow news day, so can I be forgiven for posting a clip of James Franco speaking frankly about comparing his dick with Sean Penn’s? (Prosthetic ones, for Milk.) One thing I like about Franco is how snuggly comfortable he seems in his own skin (I wonder why), and yet he’s sincerely unpretentious, almost bashful. A newbie to the talk-show circuit, he’s only this year had his first appearance on Letterman and claims that this segment with Jimmy Kimmel is just his third time sitting in any host’s guest chair. There’s a open book quality about his answers and overall tickled attitude that’s really refreshing to see as Franco happily unwraps himself in an interview.
With Pineapple Express and Milk, James Franco would already be having a huge year, but he’s also starring as Richard Gere’s son in Nights in Rodanthe (this year’s official “movie I can recommend to my grandmother.”) Opening September 26. Trailer after the cut.

I was planning on writing something really intelligent but the lovely giant picture of James Franco threw me. So now I’ve got nothing.
I really like him, and I’m glad he’s starting to pick better projects. He was so sweet in that Jimmy Kimmel interview.

Yeah, Franco has been given a full unconditional pardon from movie jail for his misdeeds and involvement with SPIDER-MAN 3 due to PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and he’s free to kick some mighty ass without dumbass amnesia subplottings.
arrgh! sorry you missed that one, Tufas. I’d like to get my hands on the neck of the informant who tipped off ABC and youtube. As if anybody watches Jimmy Kimmel anytime except for his rare youtube nuggets. That James Franco clip was probably the most viewers Kimmel has had all year.
Anyway, I did my best to track down another source, but no luck yet. Meanwhile, a replacement youtube is inserted above, and a nice link to Letterman — better quality than the Kimmel clip, and just as sexy/cute.

I think Depp could be great as the Riddler, but so could Franco. Depp is almost too obvious a choice, though, if that makes sense. Like, Heath Ledger is not someone anyone would have thought of immediately to play the Joker and look how that turned out. Cillian Murphy, Aaron Eckhart… Nolan is good at picking lesser known talents who end up surprising you. Franco could be exactly right for the role. I’d never thought of him for it before, but it’s an interesting idea.
No offense to some of you, who are otherwise intelligent folks and are cool, BUT….
…Suggesting Depp for Riddler is pretty fucking creatively bankrupt this side of Michael Bay producing more horror remakes.
Do you suggest Depp because he’s one of the great actors of our current American cinema epoch, or because he’s played some kooky nutty guys before, and with Riddler seen (for a strange reason) by the Internet as a serial killer or whatever the fuck….
This reminds me of earlier this year when before the TDK teaser came out, my college roommate was one of those whiney bitches who said that Ledger was a lousy Joker. “Why they cast that dude from the gay movie and A KNIGHT’S TALE?”
Yes, he said “the gay movie.”
And guess who he suggested who he would have casted for Joker? Come on, I’ll give you a free shot. No?
“How about Depp dude?”
So yeah, I’ve been busting his balls hard after Ledger gone all legendary on us from the grave and he’s trying his best to rewrite history that he never said all that.
And no, I’m not saying that I knew Ledger was gonna be great. I just thought that it was a great challenge to give someone who save for a project here and there, had never been pushed as an actor aside from being the Hollywood stock pretty boy lead that girls were supposed to masturbate to (i.e. THE PATRIOT, A KNIGHT’S TALE, etc.)
I guess the point of all my rambling is…..help anyone?
RRA, I think Depp is incredibly talented and versatile. I think he’s fantastic in toned down roles (Gilbert Grape, J.M. Barrie) and I think he completely disappears into more eccentric characters (Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow). I think if he ends up cast as The Riddler, he’ll do an excellent job, but like I said before, Depp is really not an inspired choice. I’d prefer someone unexpected, personally, but I think Depp could do a hell of a job.
