Unlike other news I’ve posted about Guy Ritchie’s retooled Sherlock Holmes, this latest might actually carry the distinction of having a grain a truth. If not, blame Variety:
Law is expected to close a deal shortly to play Watson, the super-sleuth’s sidekick. The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book “Sherlock Holmes.” Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood.
Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, Mark Strong. I hope the concept lives up to the cast.

what great news…..jude would make a terrific watson. as a matter of fact….he’s make a good anyone.
c’mon, one comment?
I guess this makes me The Boy Who Cried Watson.
Law is annoying! What happened to Crowe?!
I don’t think Russell Crowe was ever really in serious negotiations and his work schedule seems a bit uncertain, so timing-wise, he might not be as available as another actor, like Jude Law! I would love it if Jude got this. He’s made so many missteps of late, this might be a reversal. I hope so at least. He has talent. I think he would be an interesting Watson. Also, there was an issue over there being two “leads” with Robert Downey Jr. and Russell Crowe – I don’t think that will be the case with Jude. If this returns him to supporting actor, I will be overjoyed. That’s where he excels! Supporting, not Lead. Go, Jude!! He to me, is the ultimate character actor with a leading-man face.
