More variations on the Body of Lies design theme we’ve seen here and here. The soft-focus grid of background lights gives this pair a powerful visual unity and reminds us that the action will be backed up with an blinking arsenal of high-tech toys. Again with the gun-metal tint that’s been the color of success all year, beginning with The Dark Knight. I know everybody’s probably sick of me obsessing on this subject, but branding with color can key into subtle emotional buttons in the subconscious and it’s an important part of how images get inside our heads. This is becoming a veritable trademark shade for Warner Brothers, and the studio is even soaking their logo in deep-sea blue-green tones. Halfway between devilish Prada cerulean and something more metallically hardcore, I think we’ll start calling it “steel teal.”

Naturally I’m happy to see the Color of the Year appear on the iconic Obama posters designed by Shepard Fairey (and the inevitable parodies).
How many times have we seen these kinds of images in the last decade? Boring, Boring, Boring. Mind you, some amusement can be had from Ryan’s last line. I mean I can just imagine someone standing in the theatre lobby looking at the poster & saying to his friend ‘Oh, yes. Halfway between devilish Prada cerulean and something more metallically masculine, don’t you think Chip?’
ha, Any parents who’ve named their kid ‘Chip’ since circa 1965 will not be the type to have instilled in young Chip much appreciation for visual deconstruction. I’ll hold off on snap judgments about ‘Zed’… because we all recall your namesake in Pulp Fiction was a connoisseur of graphic creativity.
What’s Russ holding in his hand there? It looks like a microphone or a hairdryer.
Ryan – The color scheme isn’t all that new. Zed brought the topic out, but notice such visual narrative was visible in the marketing campaign for THE BOURNE IDENTITY all those years ago.
It did so well, notice how even that the DVD cover for that piece of shit 88 MINUTES rips off IDENTITY’s poster.
elessar – Vibrator.
As for BODY OF LIES, its amazing how people just doesn’t seem to give a fuck about it, but I’ll give 4 reasons for you to do so:
Ridley Scott
Leo DiCaprio
Russell Crowe
William Monahan
Monahan and Scott together shot a great movie in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (Director’s Cut) and well Leo has been better at picking his projects in the last 5 years or so, same with Russell.
So why the disinterest?
it´s a hair dryer. it´s a zohan3000.
Russ is a little doughey, but what´s up with the pajamas.
RRA: I’m still excited about it, for those very same reasons. I haven’t talked about it for fear of jinxing it, but I still want to see it.
I’ve also been distracted by the current deluge of fairly impressive trailers (W, Milk, Soloist, Revolutionary Road, Doubt, etc).
I’ve just seen Valkyrie poster at Just Jared
http://cdn.buzznet.com/media/jj1/2008/09/cruise-valkyrie/tom-cruise-valkyrie-first-poster-01.jpg.
It reminded me of Ocean’s Eleven. Relieved to see they didn’t use the same motto: They’re having so much fun it’s illegal.
iggy, that VALKYRIE poster looks kinda…..off-topic for a drama-thriller about a failed coup against Hitler where most if not all of the conspirators got executed?
elessar – Well that’s two very good reasons mate.
MILK though may have the best trailer of 2008.
I don’t think these are so great (altho I’m excited for the movie – Good Ridley is great stuff)..
but “steel teal”.. ha ha, Ryan – I almost lol!
