Marginally better than this, but still looks like something thrown together on stocklayout.com in about 10 minutes. I take both these posters as a warning that we shouldn’t be expecting a whole lot of directorial flourish. If only there were some way to visually represent the opposing dualities of this big-name mash-up with half the terse impact as the play’s title manages. If only.

Actually, I like it! Though I am not a fan of Ron Howard.
Attention everybody. Remember to bring a snapshot and turn it in to Miss Dickerson before the yearbook deadline on Friday. Just any random angle or style, so long as it’s black and white.
oh, I get it. There’s an intricate pattern. First name in black, last name in red! As in, Mr. Frost Nixon. What? There’s supposed to be a slash/ ? Dammit! and um, somebody messed up the black/red formula for Ron Howard’s name. Godammit! Phone Kinko’s. Hope they haven’t printed them up already.
Mr. Sheen, take that strip of Velcro off your face this instant!
Look who gets top billing! It is Michael Sheen.
Absolutely terrible. Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead and a thousand other movies last year would like their scheme back.
Horrible poster. What is with the posters towards the end of the year? Is there a rule that Oscar-bait movies have to have crappy posters? The summer posters were much better.
Agreed. What the hell is with the graphic designers this year on the prestige titles? Changeling, Rachel Getting Married, these two … abysmal.
On another note, wasn’t the name “Ron Howard” enough of a tip-off about the lack of “directorial flourish?”
Thee-Worst-Poster for such an “important” film. Uh-Oh. And Michael Sheen’s top billing may mean he’s going for a Leading Actor campaign…He didn’t even get nominated for “The Queen” nor was he even nominated for a Tony Award for “Frost/Nixon”. Langella won the Tony for Best Actor of “F/N” then didn’t thank the cast, the director or the author….
I guess the order of star billing symmetrically coincides with the film’s title:
Frost/Nixon = Sheen/Langella
And yes, the poster is aesthetically challenged. However, lots of film posters get the job done without being art in and of themselves. It would be jarring — not to mention surprising — to see a poster for a Ron Howard film that stands by itself as art.
Ryan, that’s hysterically on target, I’m afraid. You know, the big challenge with these sorts of films is to get people other than film critics and festival goers into the seats. This does NOTHING to make me want to see the film. I want to see it based on what I’ve read and heard, but if I hadn’t, no interest whatsoever. It makes it look like a black-and-white talking heads movie about ancient politics starring people who aren’t going to be household names for most folks. And using the word “epic” here–sans sweeping vistas and multigenerational love sagas–reads “long”. Long, boring history lesson posing as something important is how I’d read it if I were, say, Joe Six Pack. Sure, that’s not the demographic they’re going for, but can’t they do something better to entice people to see it? Sheesh.
Why does the poster says January 9???
Looks like January 9 is the UK release date, monsters.
i think this year it will be between Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke..Since the former already has one and he is playing a gay guy (!), Mickey may win this year. People like to see a comeback kid i think..
Given his career Frank LANGELLA may get a nom but don’t think Michael Sheen any shot at leading nom.
Agreed with Sertan, if they want Sheen to have any chance at a nomination they should push him in supporting.
This will be a big Oscar Favourite. Peter Travers went to an advanced screening and called it not only The best film of Ron Howard’s career but one of the very best films of the year !
Peter Travers gets kicked around for his quotable quotes, but when he starts forming his “best of the year” lists it’s a good idea to take note.
Travers’ Top 10 for 2007
1. No Country for Old Men
2. Atonement
3. Into the Wild
4. Eastern Promises
5. Sweeney Todd
6. American Gangster
7. There Will Be Blood
8. Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead
9. I’m Not There
10. Knocked Up and Juno
