I prefer the one that was at the Toronto Film Festival (I think) which was a mock-up of an 70’s-style main event poster. It was a lot more creative, although this is pretty cool.

I’ve had this film on my radar since it was announced (being a big fan of Aronofsky) and I’m so glad that a film about professional wrestling has actually been taken this seriously. I was half expecting a lot of critics to be unable to see past the subject matter.

      Can’t wait to see it!!!

Good for Mickey R….I’m not a fan ( I personally think he looks like a washed up ex-druggie, ex-con, steroid-intoxicated ex-athlete) but I can’t hate a man for proving critics wrong and delivery a solid performance (according to early reviews that is). I give credit where credit is due so kudos Mickey R. Keep up the good work.

As for Marissa Tomei, I hope she is given the opportunity to actually talk. I don’t know if I tolerate seeing her in any more forgettable sexpot roles which require very little dialogue or acting range *cough* Before the devil know you are dead *cough*

This is a poster I actually like.

I’d really consider Sin City to be the resurrection of Mickey Rourke, but if Newsweek wants to give Aronofsky the credit, so be it.

Now if we could just get a trailer…
Easily my most anticipated film of the year.

The picture of him slumping and the word “resurrection” are codes for JESUS.

      Discuss.

    8. Pierre de Plume November 11th, 2008 at 12:53 pm 8

Sure looks like crucifixion imagery to me.

This one sounds like it’ll do quite well.

    9. Paul Outlaw November 11th, 2008 at 2:08 pm 9

The film is fucking good. Kinda like Raging Bull without the high art gloss. But now I really need to see Rourke’s biopic competition: Milk, Nixon, Bush and Guevara.

    10. RichardA November 11th, 2008 at 6:00 pm 10

Does anybody else see the “Shroud of Turin” image on the top left corner of the poster?

    11. Chris November 11th, 2008 at 7:29 pm 11

Amazing poster. Leaves me feeling the same way Rourke appears to in that poster – which is how the film left me too. Such a blow to the stomach, such an emotionally raw and poignant film.

Oh… and backto1960… I thought Tomei was BRILLIANT in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. She managed to upstage masters like Finney and Hoffman in one scene, made the most of small gestures and truly created a character out of what would’ve been a cliched, indecisive girlfriend/wife in the script. Amazing turn. (Although I thought she was damned good in In the Bedroom too.)

And the performance in The Wrestler truly put me over the top with Marisa… I’m ready to be the president of that fan club!
