Brad and Cate on Oprah

Posted by Nancy Kriparos On November - 19 - 2008

Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett were on Oprah today promoting the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Oprah did not express quite the same amount of enthusiasm as she did with Australia, but she did

encourage the audience to go see the film.  The topic of conversation ran the gamut from life with Angelina and the kids to rebuilding New Orleans and there were also a couple of clips from film.  There is short clip from the show as well as a transcript of the entire show on Oprah.com.

      Cate B. reminds me of the screen goddesses of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s;
effortless glamor and a vast ocean of renewable talent.

She doesn’t have to publicize her humanitarian efforts all over the media or adopt black and asian children or steal husbands or make out with her brother or have blood pendants to command respect. Her presence and her talent speaks for itself. Cate B is definitely one of the fine actresses of our time.

Comments reserved on Brad shit. He was actually good in Babel though.

Agreed on Cate Blanchette. She’s a walking dream.

Although I skipped through most of the conversation about the film, I did accidentally see a snippet from one scene that um…underwhelmed me. I really hope this film lives up to its amazing trailer.

Man, Brad sure is getting old fast

    4. RRA wants to go to war with Jimmy Kimmel on OPRAH November 20th, 2008 at 12:41 pm 4

To be fair, I think Pitt’s look is for his INGLORIOUS BASTARDS shoot.

    5. Osborne Cox November 20th, 2008 at 5:02 pm 5

I think he looks hot. It was a good interview but I wished they talked about Button more.

Must we be so blatant with our teenage agendas? It’s really getting tiresome and serves no purpose.

I was able to watch this and Oprah couldn’t have been more annoying. Cate and Brad were fine and fun with each other. They both look damn good to me.

I agree with Mr. Cox. More discussion about the movie would have been nice but Oprah must feed her masses with silly celeb tidbits. This story has intrigued me for a while. I am hopeful that Fincher has made a film which creates the right mood in exploring its issues of life and loss and that startling realization of just how fleeting it all is. I think this may not be a film easily captured in trailers or clips. It is probably not going to be as popular with those with a seemingly endless life ahead of them. That may actually help it with Oscar voters.

For sure, if Brad gets a nom he will be remembered by the writers branch.

What kind of interview did you expect? Four years ago when Brad and Jennifer split up, Oprah took sides in a very public way on her show. Oprah had JA on her season opener in 2005, drinking champaign, toasting, and enabling JA’s pity party then and now, just last week. Brad knows that Oprah is great friends with his ex and naturally would not be as forthcoming about appearing happy with his new family, wihch Oprah noticed anyway.

What gets me with posters and these award bloggers is they think they can hold some sort of sway with encouraging 6000 academy voters to pick the blogs oscar choices. There is way too much bias on the blogs regarding ANYTHING Brad & Angelina do! Tom O’Neil, a tabloid writer, wrote Angelina off as a “tabloid queen”, questioning her getting nominations on his blog, as if she goes to the Ivy to be seen like a few celebs out here. The tabloids write so much untrue $hit and rehash decades old incidents, that bloggers include in their so called “reviews’ of actors films passing it along as fact.

It’s not hard to get the idea that bloggers want BB to fail and Angelina to be denied award recognition..

    8. Nancy Kriparos November 20th, 2008 at 6:07 pm 8

I agree with you all…..there wasn’t enough discussion about the movie.
Some discussion about the director would have been nice as well as why Brad chose to work with him again. Also discussion on what it was like working with eachother(Brad and Cate) again. Did Oprah even mention Babel? Oprah can be really annoying and I don’t see why she feels a need to dumb down the discussion with the tabloid stuff…….otherwise she ends up being no different than ET or Extra or all the other crap celebrity shows. Her research staff is not all that great either……she made it sound like “Elizabeth” was Cates first film. Grrrr.

    9. Drew November 20th, 2008 at 11:10 pm 9

Hmm, Brad Pitt is does look much older than he did a couple of years ago. Then again, after you hit 45 it is hard to look 35 again, especially for men.

    10. backto1960 November 21st, 2008 at 12:41 am 10

Why all these Oprah-hate? you nincompoops. Brad and Cate were even lucky that Oprah let them come to her show. Oprah is a human being…if she didn’t like the movie, she wouldn’t fake it. If Aniston is her friend, she wouldn’t kiss the ass of the man who dumped her for a slut. Oprah is not a robot.

Oprah liked AUstralia and she went gaga over it…she prolly didn’t like the over hyped TCCOBB so she is not entitled to drool over it. She worked hard for what she has so she has the right to do what she wants. You ingrates! you were even lucky she is wasting her time to give coverage to the film.

    11. Gentle Benj November 21st, 2008 at 12:51 am 11

Dear Lord Cate Blanchett is face-searingly hot. “And will you show them to us?”

RRA, it made me happy that you spelled “Inglorious Bastards” the right way. Deliberately misspelled titles don’t usually bother me (Casa de los Babys!) but I just can’t bring myself to type this one the way it’s “supposed” to be spelled.

Which is probably because it’s Tarantino, and his ego d’artiste gets under my cuticles badly. It’s inconvenient, really, that I love all his movies.

No, you know what it is? It’s the fact that both words are misspelled. One or the other, I could handle. But both? It’s like reversing every single letter on the lemonade stand sign.

This is the final time I will respond to slander against Brad and Angelina on this site and any other site because I am just at my wit’s end and will suffer a nervous breakdown in trying to speak out against this evil and insanity that is just getting more out of control with time. I am responding to this older post because I don’t think I can even cope with the trash that is being dished out on the other more offensive posts. I know Team Aniston has completely taken over this board and the circumstances have not been this bad since 2005 when Jennifer corroborated the false victim image and tabloid misportrayal. I don’t have the patience to deal with scum anymore. I am scared of how much more perverse and fraudulent our society has become because of how a good man got destroyed & villified and how a demoness got glorified due to a misportrayal that gossip created and how it clashed with reality. It is one cruel, corrupt, and crazy contradiction after another to prevent most people from understanding the truth.

It is people like Backto1960 who are perfectly representative of the masses who were thoroughly brainwashed, deluded, and corrupted by a misportrayal that gossip created. This entire false perspective is based on a lie. Jennifer is the true manipulative mastermind who has the media and public under her control because of how she helped the media sell their false storyline. I don’t have the time to even summarize everything because it is impossible to do so because of the magnitude of this corruption and deceit that has infected most of our ignorant world. I will just address a few points.

There is no point in opening up the bigger and deeper debate about this but the media is doing everything in its power to completely destroy any access to the truth and completely distort reality. They are now taking a situation that is already injust and immoral to the extreme and managed to add a darker dimension to it. Jennifer’s latest interview is further proof of what a sick liar, fraud, and manipulative monster she is and what the corrupt dynamic between her and the media is. She blatantly distorted and contradicted what Angelina Jolie said in her Vogue Interview. Jennifer makes a couple of calculated, misleading statements and a new spin of a false confession from Jolie is circulated throughout the media. Angelina’s interviews as well as Brad’s print interviews are not an accurate reflection of what they really said because the media distorts their comments, detracts statements, and adds their own fabrications to the mix. Not to mention, the tons of articles that misportray the interview before it is released. Angelina’s Vogue Interview was the first official magazine interview Angelina did after she and Brad became a couple.

I know Team Aniston has completely taken over
      this board…

      Oh please.

It is people like Backto1960 who are perfectly representative of the masses who were thoroughly brainwashed, deluded, and corrupted by a misportrayal that gossip created.

      Be that as it may…

    14. Jasmine November 21st, 2008 at 9:02 pm 14

I remember what a disaster that was because the media circulated a ton of articles using misleading headlines to make it appear that Angelina Jolie confessed or made incriminating comments. They would do the same with Brad’s interviews. Despite the distortions within the interview, it was clarified that they DENIED having an adulterous affair. In the Vogue Interview and other interviews after that, Angelina denied having an adulterous affair with Brad Pitt. She clearly stated that her romantic relationship with Brad began after his breakup with Jennifer. She also clearly stated that she and Brad were just friends during the shooting of that movie. She never said that she fell in love with Brad while he was married or spilled details about an affair that didn’t even happen which is what the media is now claiming based on what Jennifer deliberately insinuated. All Angelina implied was that she enjoyed spending time and working with Brad during that movie. Their was a bond that developed that would naturally and unexpectedly evolve into a romantic one when he became available.

I know Team Aniston shows no respect to their words and the truth but they have to at least have the integrity to acknowledge that Brad & Angelina have denied this accusation. Jennifer was literally
lashing out at nothing. Her comments were completely harmless and there was nothing offensive about it. Saying she looked forward
to work everyday and etc was not reflective of anything improper.

Angelina made the mistake of discussing Mr. and Mrs. Smith and how things were they first met and then jumped to a discussion of their current romance. She never actually described how, why, when, and where she and Brad fell in love. She never really revealed the intimate details of how their romantic relationship developed out of courtesy. Her comments were vague and were easy to misportray and misinterpret. Regardless of that, there has never been any confession because they have nothing to confess to. They have maintained their innocence and truth for the past four years. Suddenly the media declares out of nowhere that Angelina confessed because of how Jennifer twisted Angelina’s words and used them against her. The media is also lying to make it seem as if Jennifer
was tight-lipped, disregarding the PR Campaign and numerous interviews she engaged in for over a two-year period. It was the Vanity Fair that officially made most of the world turn against Brad & Angelina and accept this false perspective. Team Aniston would but cut more than half without Jennifer’s contribution and the effect of it would have died down by now. She pretends to be low-profile for a year knowing she will receive the right amount and kind of attention and then blindslides them again with another PR Campaign exploiting the false accusations when she has a movie coming out around the same time their Oscar contenders get released.

    15. Jasmine November 21st, 2008 at 9:27 pm 15

Jennifer uses her friends to spread trash in her favor and against them to the gossip columns and tabloids. She uses underhanded tactics and she knows has the press in the palm of her hand. There was hardly an ounce of truth in her interview. She lied and contradicted about everything but I have don’t time to go into all of that. This is woman is sadistic and a power hungry egomaniac.

Most of the world wrongfully hates and insults them while wrongfully adoring her but she is still not satisfied. She will not rest until everybody is recruited to Team Aniston and the only way she can do that is to make it appear that Angelina confessed. Now Team Aniston was horrible enough to deal with already but now it has become impossible. Brad and Angelina have avoided directly responding to Jennifer. They are waiting for the right time to give an in-depth rebuttal and explanation of everything but it is hard when there isn’t really anybody they can trust within the media. Any distortion of the complete account of the truth would be deadly.

This whole new People “controversy” is also bogus and now you have a slew of articles claiming that Jolie is the media manipulative mastermind using the exclusives of her kids to prove an absurd point. It was also great selective editing to display those covers and not display the stories/favorable bias PEOPLE yet alone the rest of the media has shown towards Jennifer. The editor of PEOPLE is die-hard Team Aniston and many of their staff have expressed their stance on various entertainment shows. They even had a Team Aniston-centric issue in 2005. Everybody understands the logic behind
the baby exclusives and that it is the media who created the dynamic.

If they did not do this, the paparazzi frenzy would go dangerously out of control, millions of dollars would be wasted on trash, and the story about their kids would be sleazy spin. The media makes tons of money off of unauthorized photos and horrible stories anyway. I guess it is shameful for Brad and Angelina to make sure some of the coverage is accurate and that the money goes to charity instead. The entire media jumped on the bandwagon and they are forced to interact with outlets that are against them because they don’t have too many options. PEOPLE is the mainstream celebrity source that most people would choose and the magazine is less nasty and biased than the others. Their circumstances are uniquely awful and their position is not the same as other celebrities. So don’t use the lame tactic of comparing them to Matt Damon or Christian Bale who are not stuck in the same situation. They are not targets and they are not dealing with a bias.

Team Aniston was a media creation and the media has proven time and time again that they are biased against Brad & Angelina. This brainwashing and cycle of manipulation has gone to a psychotic level and millions of people are involved in it. Most of the world has become a slave to this and has become a sick sycophant of Jennifer’s and the media is now contradicting this to cover up the corruption they created. Brad and Angelina don’t want to give into Jennifer’s bait. Her camp already placed an item in the Chicago Sun-Times lying and saying that Brad was furious and that he told Jennifer to shut up. He never called her and his holding his tounge because he knows he is powerless against her. She is taking advantage of the fact that he is a nonconfrontational and class act. They are confused to how to deal with this without engaging in a war of words they know they cannot win. He also has every right to be angry.

Brad and Angelina have been nothing but civilized, gracious, respectful, and dignifed to no avail. This is not just about celebrities, this is about morals. This is about protecting what is good, right, and true.

    16. Jasmine November 21st, 2008 at 9:48 pm 16

My empathy goes out to them because I am cursed with connecting
deeply to victims of wrongdoing, especially if its on a mass scale,
and having a destructive impact on the world. Jennifer’s false image,
her supreme amount of unearned popularity and power was obtained through Brad Pitt. She is the complete opposite of what
she claims to be. Then people who are being true to themselves and others are dismissed as being calculating and manipulative, it is a
      paradox.

Angelina is an ambassador to the UN. He is an ambassador for
DATA and other social organizations. It is part of their duty to bring
awareness to issues. The few times they did publicize their work
was for a good purpose. Most of their humanitarian work goes unreported and people don’t even aren’t aware of how much they
do and how passionate their involvement is. The media reports less
than 10% and they always calculate a backlash against them. They
mock and degrade the adoption of third world children and real
charity work. They travel to third world countries, interact with
governments to bring change, donate millions of dollars to a variety
of organizations, orphanidges, hospitals, built aid centers, and etc.
It is a major part of who they are and their life is devoted to philanthrophy. Any celebrity can occasionally attend a charity event in L.A. or appear in an ad which is what Jennifer and most celebrities
do. The few times she has done that, it always gets mentioned in
the press. Angelina was a mother and humanitarian before she
became romantically involved with Brad and way before that accusation. The media did not dismiss her as manipulative back then.
Brad was always socially and politically conscious, more in spirit than
in action. He had this desire to be more involved and contribute to
society for a long time. He had begun doing research into various
aid organizations and issues before he met Jolie and his meeting with
Bono and trip to Africa motivated to change his life. I recognized Brad
as a good man with a beautiful soul way before he became a dad
      and aid worker.

As for Jolie’s wild past, she has reformed and repented for her mistakes. Her old self is not nearly as scandalous or freaky as people think but that is another discussion. Being a mother and humanitarian changedher. She has been through hell because of the mistreatment of people, people don’t understand why she was the
way she was. It seemed that it would change. She finally began
receiving respect and that all gets ruined due to a false label a false
accusation caused. There is too much to dissect regarding this.

    17. Jasmine November 21st, 2008 at 10:30 pm 17

As for Oprah, I have also analyzed her for years. I admire many
things about her but I don’t have much respect for her judgement.
What people don’t understand, is that the entire media jumped on
this corrupt bandwagon and was infected with a disease. Oprah is
just another of Jennifer’s puppets. Jennifer uses people to build
her popularity, influence, and feed into her ego. None of her
friendships are authentic and she surrounds herself with people
to do her dirty work for her. Her campaigning to isolate Brad and
Angelina from the rest of Hollywood socially and mentally occurred
in many ways. She spouted her trash to anybody who would listen,
making a point to share her phony sob story with the most famous
and influential in the entertainment industry and media. She wined
and dined with Letterman, Ellen, etc..she wouldn’t even have had
many of those A-list connections without Brad.

Oprah didn’t even become a big fan of Jennifer’s until after she
became America’s Sweetheart after her marriage to Brad. She fell
for the golden girl persona like a lot of people which would blind
people to the truth about her and the marriage. Anyway, Oprah
was acquainted and friendly with Brad years before she met or
even took an interest in Jennifer. She didn’t even invite Jennifer to
her show until the Friends finale. Then when Jennifer became the
most beloved woman in America, Oprah joined her quarry. People
want to associate themselves with whoever is popular to raise their
popularity. That is how shallow people and followers operate.
When Brad became unpopular, Oprah disassociates herself with
him and claims she hardly knows him.

Brad has been victimized and has always had a moralistic outlook
on life. He has actually been cheated on more than once and never
had any desire to get revenge. Jennifer has never been betrayed and mistreated by any of her exes. I have done my homework. Jennifer always gets treated like a queen and is mollycoddled by everyone, which made her the two-faced narcissist she is today.
Oprah has had many adulterous celebrities on her show and like
the rest of the media showed a lack of disapproval to most of the
celebs and public figures who have actually committed the sin.
Julia Roberts, Rudy Giuliani, Meg Ryan, etc. The list is too long. Oprah
has also had victims on her show. She didn’t become buddy buddy or express the same level of sympathy towards Uma Thurman and etc.
In fact, like alot of the journalists who jumped on the Team Aniston
bandwagon, before 2005 she showed no signs of being offended
by adultery yet becomes involved in a mock moral movement against
a good man who was wrongfully accused of it. Oprah herself, she
has admitted this on her show, has had affairs with married men.
Oprah, though has been classier and more restrained than alot of
Team Aniston, but her jumping on the bandwagon did have a lot
of negative influence because her shows hits at a demographic towards the type of woman most vulnerable to the manipulations
      of somebody like Jennifer.

Brad also filmed that interview before Jennifer filmed hers. Otherwise,
I am sure the questioning and tone would be radically different. Jennifer is used to people blindly accepting her lies, she not only
revived the hatred, but she instigated a new false angle about
Angelina confessing. Then she is disgusting enough to gloat about
being “honest’ about Angelina. Then she pretends she doesn’t want
the pity and dishes out a bunch of insincere compliments towards
Brad to make it seem as if she is take the higher road and is not
being vindictive. She knows how to play the game better than anybody else. She also lies and acts like she wants TCBB and Marley
& Me to do well, when she knows she intensified the backlash which
will have a negative effect of the film. Lately, the Team Aniston-controlled media has had a harder time separating their unfounded personal opinions from their professional criticism.

The media is perfectly aware there has never been a confession, the illegitimate reference point is an older interview from over a year ago, in which it was clarified that she denied having an affair. They have no limits to their lies. Brad and Angelina have never and will
never confess to something that is not true. They are stuck in a
position where defending themselves is not easy because they
are dealing with a biased media hellbent on using them as much
as possible and destroying them. Nobody should be buying that new
lie about her confessing, but now Team Aniston is adding that to their bashing…making it impossible for anybody else to even open
a discussion of the truth because we have to combat that layer.
It would have been well-acknowledged a year ago, if Angelina had
actually confessed. The terms of the divorce agreement would have
changed, Brad would have been sent back to court for lying about that if that had been true. If she had confessed, Jennifer would have
trashed her a year ago. There would have been an explosive reaction
from the masses a year ago. Jennifer’s lies are hard to prove, but this
is the most outrageous and obvious case of lying yet. It is also the
most obvious proof over the control she has over the media. The
evidence is right there for everybody to inspect because anybody
can read the interview and see that Angelina denied, and not
confessed to an affair. It is also proof that most of these people
who jumped on that bandwagon don’t care about truth or the
facts, they are addicted to this.

This has gone to darker and more demented leve than it ever has
      before.

As for Brad’s looks, unhappiness, pain, and misery makes you age
faster. He looks fine and he is wearing the mustache for his other
film. He also often downplays his good looks. He can become fat
and bald for all I care. My attraction to him is not based on sex
appeal but on personality. He is beautiful inside and out. He is
      aging naturally unlike Jennifer.

Don’t mock me and say “Oh please” when what I am pointing out
is the ugly and insane truth. I expect my post to be maligned and
that I will be ruthlessly attacked but at least there will be some people who will be reading the truth.

Your paranoia and zealotry embarrass people like me who actually admire Angelina Jolie. When I read the words “Team Aniston” and “Team Jolie” I stop taking the poster seriously.

    20. backto1960 November 22nd, 2008 at 12:13 am 20

@ Jasmine, why don’t you write a novel? with all these chunk of nonsense you are copying and pasting here left and right, do you think anyone will bother to read that crap?

…and stop putting people in categories of “team aniston” and “team Jolie”. The fact that some of us see Angelina for what she is, a hypocritical, husband-stealing, bad acting, overrated, overhyped slut, does not mean we are automatically Aniston Ass kissers.

At least I respect Aniston; she made a name for herself by making America laugh every week and went on to successful dabble in independent films like The Good Girl and Friends with money.

    21. Gentle Benj November 22nd, 2008 at 2:51 pm 21

      tl;dr

    22. Violet November 23rd, 2008 at 1:58 pm 22

God bless you Jasmine for standing up for what is true, good, and right.
Most of the world does not see Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and most of all
Jennifer Aniston for who they really are. They judge them by what the
media labeled them as. Backto 1960 you epitomize the attitude of the
brainwashed and false perspective of Team Aniston. You are serving a
horrible person who has had nothing but a sick, negative influence on people. All she ever has done throughout her whole career is to manipulate and delude people, with her and the media benefitting from that. You are completely blinded and brainwashed by this misportrayal and paradox. You are the ultimate kind of sycophant. You do fit the
category. You are believing the spin while the minority sees through
the spin and manipulation. You are hardcore Team Aniston and there
is nothing to respect and admire about this fraud.

It is delusional to pretend that you are beyond this when you are the type of idiots who are making this corruption thrive. Angelina is not a homewrecker, a bad actress, a whore, or any of those negative labels
you prescribed for. She was a wild rebel and lost soul transformed into an extraordinary woman of character and substance… a mother, an ambassador of goodwill, a unique actress with great potential, a true
natural beauty, a multi-faceted being, a lover, and a strong woman
who won’t let people like you destroy her. The world is dominated by
people like Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer’s popularity and power was
completely derived from false images, manipulation, and exploitation.
She is the one who is the overrated and overrhyped whore. The worst
kind of whore. Her mediocre performances get overhyped in those
trite unimpressive indie films because of the favorable bias the media
gives her due to her glorious image that she received through Brad Pitt. This woman did not have the talent, charisma, beauty, or personality to enter the A-list on her own, she did it through Brad Pitt,
and her tons of slaves are in complete denial of that. There was nothing
special or noteworthy about her performance and presence on that sitcom. Nothing that would make her more noticed and loved than the other castmates. She did not have that huge fanatical fanbase, that level
of extreme popularity, that level of fondness, personal interest, and
affection, that status, and most of all, that power until she married Brad
Pitt. She married him precisely for that reason. Some people are capable
of seeing through facades and recognizing people for who they really
are and how they influence others. If not for him, she would have faded
into the B-list. If not for that accusation, people would have stopped
caring about her and she would not be the center of global attention
      anymore.

Most of the world does fit into either the Team Aniston category or the
minority who understands the truth. Or they are in some gray area
in between with them leaning more towards Aniston because if anybody
understood any ounce of truth with conviction, they would not tolerate
anything that Team Aniston does or says because it is deeply wrong
and destructive. There is no way of discussing the truth without addressing those categories. You stopped reading when you read those labels, that was very closed minded and ignorant of you. It is the lack of solidarity and unity that many who claim to be their fans express that have made the people who really understand what is going on unable to fight against this corruption. This is not just about celebrities, this is about morals and truth. We actually admire and empathize with Pitt and Jolie, any true victim out there. I don’t understand why you would be embarrassed by somebody who discusses the truth in detail. You tolerate the people who neurotically and inhumanely attack them with fanaticism because they believe all the lies but you can’t tolerate the people who passionately defend them by addressing imporant points of reality and truth? That information needs to be taken seriously because what is happening is having grave consequences for our world. Part of
the reason Team Aniston took over the majority is because of their lack of restraint or inhibition, why does the right side have to restrain ourselves. Everything she pointed out was profound, important, and
necessary to understand. There was nothing paranoid or overzealous
about it because it is true and will only get worse if people don’t take
a stand. I bet your alleged admiration of her is completely superficial.
Do you even care about what the truth is? Do you even understand the
core of the misportrayal is the false homewrecker label the gossip about
Mr. and Mrs. Smith created? This is not just affecting them, it is affecting
nearly everybody. You are not a real supporter and it is people like you
who pose as fans who are making this even more perverse, complex,
and worse. There are people who are trying to expose what is happening
and you are mocking them no differently than the people who are completely overwhelmed and contaminated by that misportrayal. You
are enabling Team Aniston. Back off the few who are taking a stand.

Is this topic still thrashing around? yeesh.

Jasmine&Violet, not that I don’t agree with some of what you say, but your points might be more pointed if you’d focus your argument and condense a little.

You want people to read what say, not just bombard us with massive hammering, right?

“I caught The Hurt Locker again last night. What a great film. Kathryn Bigelow is probably the most deserving of the nominees. I think if Cameron does pull off the upset, I don’t think sexism will be the problem. I think box office receipts and a concern with AMPAS trying to be “relevant” with the general public will be the actual result. Which brings me to this issue:

I do not understand why some critics out there think that the Academy should pick films that are more mainstream? I heard a commentator the other day saying that the 2008 (No Country for Old Men) ceremony was one of the most boring telecasts in the Academy’s history. Yes, it had their lowest ratings ever. But even if this makes me come off as snobbish, that explanation is a bunch of horseshit. 2007 was a great year in movies, and if LCD (lowest common denominator) critics and audiences don’t like it, tough.

Since I consider myself a film buff, it doesn’t bother me when the Academy pick films that general audiences may have a problem with. Let us be honest, your average film goer usually does not have the greatest taste in the world. And “difficult” films are usually more profound and original.

On a side note, I finally got around to seeing Julie & Julia this morning. Meryl Streep SHOULD NOT win the Oscar this year. That performance was ok, but not her greatest. Her performance in Doubt was a lot better. Mulligan and Sidibe should be the two actresses vying for the award, but that certainly is not the case. Honestly, I think I will be disappointed if Streep or Bullock win this year. Neither performance was that spectacular, in relation to the competition.”
