Salvadore Dali is the new Truman Capote? Two Dali bios next year. Little Ashes, due in March, previewed above, and Andrew Niccol’s Dali & I, with Pacino as Dali and Cillian Murphy as his art dealer. Juicy synopsis of Little Ashes after the cut.
In the midst of the repression and political unrest of pre-Spanish Civil War, eccentric artist Salvador Dalí and renowned poet and revolutionary Federico García Lorca find their artistic and sexual freedom. The two form a bond challenged by their fierce ambitions, their friends, the struggle between a love for Spain and a love for each other.
In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dalí arrives at university at the age of 18, determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university’s social elite — Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However, as time passes, Salvador feels an increasingly strong pull toward the charismatic Federico — who is oblivious to the attention he is getting from his beautiful writer friend, Magdalena. Finally, in the face of his friends’ preoccupations — and Federico’s growing renown as a poet — Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the seaside town of Cadaqués. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dalí family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more than a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls.

JESUS THAT LOOKS TERRIBLE. Still, the secret fangirl in me must inform you that you are derelict in your duty for not mentioning that Salvador Dali is played by ROBERT PATTISWOON from Twilight. Seriously though, that looks like a movie that Andy Millman would be an extra in.
Gotta agree with that.
Very important history, wonderfully gifted artists…
But…
The movie looks terriblely artificial. If so, who knows, could make that Andy Garcia (also artificial) more respectful.
And Cilliam could play Dali better. BTW: that project with Pacino as the artist seems great.
that Andy Garcia movie as Lorca
Well, actually there’s a third Dali movie in development, to be directed by Simon West and starring Antonio Banderas. At least, that’s what Banderas says in an interview on the spanish newspaper “El Pais”.
That trailer is absolutely terrible. But I do know a few people who have seen the movie and said it was actually pretty fantastic. So this looks to be another case of AWFUL DREADFUL TERRIBLE TRAILER MAKING AND THEY SHOULD BE FIRED.
Yeah, looks bad — By the way, when is NBR coming down today?
no thanks. im wait al pacino’ dali.
i understand celebirty magazines call robert pattinson is good actor but i never understand movie sites do promos.
one hand ben whishaw, gaspard ulliel, gael garcia bernal, ben barnes, james mcavoy, daniel radcliffe are hard working and their acts very better day by day other hand zac efron, robert pattinson’ act mediocre but their behind show bazz therefor they ver popular.its very injustice.but we dont mind.because successful actors always win.
NBR results are in: “Slumdog Millionaire” wins!
Rounding out top 11 are “Burn After Reading”, “Changeling”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “The Dark Knight”, “Defiance”, “Frost/Nixon”, “Gran Torino”, “Milk”, “WALL-E” (FREAKIN’ SWEET!), and “The Wrestler”.
I’m obviously in the minority here for thinking that the movie looks beautiful if a bit generic. From the snippets i’ve heard the story is mostly told through Lorca’s eyes and Beltran really shines as the lead. Paul Morrison is a very respected British director and i’m looking forward to see what he’s done with this.
BTW Pattinson has been on people’s radar as a major talent to watch long before Twilight came into picture. Same with actor friend Tom Sturidge. I dont understand the hate. Its not the gossip rags that have been building these young (admittedly good-looking) actors up for the past three years.
The other biopics planned will not be looking at Dali’s early life, and therefore his relationship with Lorca wont be explored. Those productions will focus on the great showman he became. Even though its been well-documented, many Dali ‘fans’ still deny his sexual interest in Lorca because he once denied it in a very cryptic way.
He was homosexual, as everybody knows, and he tried twice to screw me. I was repulsed, of course, because I am not a homosexual, and besides, it hurt. But I was quite flattered vis a vis prestige. I figured he was a great poet, so I owed him a piece of the Divine Dali’s a**
Somebody on the imdb board posted a really insightful post about their history which you may find an interesting read. It explains alot about this great ’showman’, whose mask eventually became his face.

You can also check out Movie fanatics series of articles on Little Ashes as they’ve been covering the project for a very long time. Well before Twilight came into the picture, anyway.
