Why Not the Benjamin Button Clips

Posted by Susan Thea Posnock On December - 9 - 2008

Why haven’t we posted them?  I like them but I don’t like seeing so much of this great film revealed.  I understand the strategy behind it, to demystify it for audiences who are maybe put off by an “old and wrinkly” Brad Pitt – but to me, it is best when it washes over you.  It is one of those films you enter from one place and exit another, not unlike life itself I suppose.  It is strange to see so few critics really diving headlong into either Button or Revolutionary Road the way I thought they would.  This is such a creepy/tense time of year that it never feels real until your feet touch the ground.  Both films, I am certain, will resonate over time.  But they are hardcore.  And if 2008 swings to Wall-E and The Dark Knight (which is where it started) it will be indicative of a public that pulls back from the blade, wanting instead a buffer.  And for studios, well, the late-entry experiment didn’t seem to impact the chatter.  But more on that as the awards unfold.

“This is such a creepy/tense time of year that it never feels real until your feet touch the ground. Both films, I am certain, will resonate over time.”

Especially creepy this year, because we must assume all the critics have seen all the movies, but for weeks they’ve been bound to silence by the Hollywood mafia code of omerta.

They’ve been like a cabal of hooded monks sliding past in the shadows, refusing to make eye contact with mere laymen. The only studio execs all year who seemed like they knew what they had on their hands and knew how to let the rest of us know with showmanship and finesse has been Warner Bros with The Dark Knight.

The other studios have been like the RNC trying to keep Sarah Palin away from interviewers so nobody will find out who she is — or what she isn’t — until she’s all dressed up and already ensconced on the stage.

[And I'm sure a lot of people felt the same veil masking anything tangible about Obama. But that dance of the seven veils was more artfully choreographed.]

If The Dark Knight ends up winning the whole shebang, I wouldn’t associate that with any sort of shying from the blade. In fact, I’d say that The Departed, No Country, and The Dark Knight would make one of the nastiest three-pronged stabs in Oscar history. And I mean that in the most admiring and hopeful way possible.

  3. Ryan Adams December 9th, 2008 at 9:05 pm 3

I wouldn’t mind at all if the stabbing nastiness went on for more than 3 years, Gentle Benj.

Midnight Cowboy, Patton, The French Connection, The Godfather I & II, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest — only briefly alleviated by the cheerful nastiness of The Sting.

Maybe the Naughty Naughties are a dark dready echo of the Skeevy Seventies. Mmm….

I watched the clips and I feel like I’m the only one with NO interest in this film. Cate and Brad are overrated . I don’t think they have chemistry.

I never watch actual clips. Just the trailers.

  6. Ricky December 10th, 2008 at 11:15 am 6

Why do we keep having to make excuses for why The Dark Knight could get a BP nom/win? It doesn’t have to be a buffer, it just has to be a great film. This it most certainly is.

  7. Mickey December 12th, 2008 at 5:42 pm 7

There is nothing overrated about the film and their performances.
I am thrilled and delighted the movie managed to get nominations despite all of the nasty campaigning and lying. The lie about them confessing to that false, heinous accusation is getting more out of control. The media does not operate on truth and legitimacy when it comes to Brad and Angelina. This is both libel and slander to the highest level, but the entire media is engaging in it so there is not much they can do about it. This came as a result because his ex distorted comments from an interview in which Angelina denied an illicit affair. They have always denied it and always will because that is the truth. If the public just accepted the truth and could recognize the deception and exploitation from the media & his ex, the misportrayal and all of this immorality would have died years ago. People might understand these three people for who they really are. The media makes up and distorts comments from Brad and Angelina all of the time, then they wrongly claim those words came from their mouths. They are making up sources and just are adding more to this. Now they are claiming that Brad confessed to it when he did not.
I am waiting for both of them to be brave enough to defend themselves from this latest spin. I am part of the group that people keep mocking on this site. I am discussing this again because I just read a bunch of articles extending this lie even further and it really angered me. I recently spoke to a close, famous pal of his. He is very upset over this and clarified the truth for me. I even spoke to other people from his camp and they also clarified that they made no such comments. I know there are a minority of people who understand the significance of this and how the entire truth is at stake. Both of them are overwhelmed and don’t know how to respond. I am just warning people not to believe the media’s false claims. I know this is an awards site and it may not seem relevant but it is. Don’t let any of this affect your opinion of his movies. The number of people extending their bias to their movies are increasing.
In fact, I think the nominations in some warped way will just increase the nastiness and backlash.

I need to clarify some information. The misportrayal and contradiction of Angelina’s comments that his ex spawned were discussed on this website many times from other people. I am not going to repeat that, hopefully that message got through.

The spin about Brad’s comments, are coming from reference to his Rolling Stone interview in which I am sure there were distortions and fabrications incoporated within the interview with comments also being taken out of context. I am posting this on this site because other sites delete or edit comments which discuss the truth.

The reporter asked what his favorite Angelina movie was. The magazine claims he said Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Six Kids. I fell in love.

I doubt that is exactly what Brad said. In fact, my sources insist that is not what he said. The media and most of the public who incoporates their misconceptions within their words are insisting
that is indicative of a confession when it is not. Brad, is speaking carelessly, because he has underlying knowledge of what the truth is.
It is also foolish for Brad & Angelina to give magazine interviews knowing a mess of their comments would be made and the media will create a spin around it. He did not mean to say that is where he fell in love, it makes no sense for him to say that when has denied having that alleged affair. Mr. and Mrs. Smith introduced him to Jolie,
who he later fell in love and started a family with. He didn’t say that is where the romance began but the movie cause their meeting and interaction. They couldn’t have become a couple at any point if they had not met first. That is the movie where they met. I just need to clarify that. I am sure what he said was misportrayed and distorted,
making it easy to misinterpret. Their romance began several months after his breakup. I just need to clarify that.

  9. Mickey December 15th, 2008 at 12:16 pm 9

He also said six kids. Obviously, their six kids were not produced or adopted on the set of that movie. He allegedly said …fell in love. He did not state it was the movie set where he fell in love. He has always denied this, both publicly and privately to his friends and aquaitances. It would make no sense for them to suddenly change their story and confirm that misportrayal randomnly and haphazardly right before the release of his movie. Hypothetically, if there had been a confession, it would have been clearly and directly stated. There will be never be a confession because that accusation that created this whole corruption is false. I know most of the world operating on that lie and misportrayal might have led them to doubt themselves and the truth at certain vulnerable points but I doubt they would self-destruct & turn their backs on what they know is good, right, and true. They will never surrender to that misportrayal. That movie lead to their meeting which eventually lead to a romance and family. It introduced him to his current love. That is not the same thing as saying he had an affair on the set of that movie. Of course,
Team Aniston is jumping on that with delight, taking that as a confession of guilt when it was not. The opposition is closeminded,
has extreme tunnel vision, can’t think beyond that lie they wrongly believe, and they are devouring this angle from a vague careless throwing of words which I am sure his ex will exploit further. People have tried to defend them from this new angle about a confession on other sites, only to have our comments deleted, not displayed at all, or edited. Or we have to become members of the site, register, and etc. So only one perspective, the false and horrible one is seen.

I am not just clarifying information because of Brad and Angelina. It is for society and morality, not just for them. They are frustrating, disappointing, and are challenging to defend and deal with. I say this with love, not contempt. They always handle the situation wrongly and can’t match the cunning and deceit of their antagonists which number in the millions. They have made so many mistakes. I find it hard to believe that he could be so careless with his words. There are also articles that claim he also said he hasn’t seen the movie in conjuction with those other two comments. I know that is not true because they both saw the film at the Hollywood premeire. It also makes no sense that he would say that it was his favorite Angelina movie if he had not even seen it. He has specified many, many times that the romance began afterwards. For the few, who managed to separate fact from fiction, and was not influenced by the spin, know all of their words, actions, and behaviors rung true to the core and proved they told the truth. Why would they even have bothered to deny it all of those years if it was true and then suddenly changed their stance in the way the media claimed? It makes no sense. There are too many discrepancies and suspicious holes. I am in a state of despair over this. I love them but they can be so incredibly stupid and have made themselves bigger targets of Team Aniston. He has been on the campaign trail for Benjamin Button, doing all of these interviews, without acknowledging or clarifying the truth about that.
He hasn’t responded to Jennifer’s comments because he thinks that would just make things worse but now the spin about a confession is being expanded to him. I can’t help it is partly his fault by being so vague, unclear, indirect, and careless with his words. I know from years of personal research that this accusation is not true. His friends also doubt that is what he exactly said. It was either an added fabrication or distortion from the magazine. Or the implication of what he tried to say was misunderstood or came out wrong in speech. That is not a stretch for people who understand Brad and Angelina’s style of conversing and talking. There is no media outlet they can trust. The media is making them look more evil than ever because wrongly believe there is proof they lied when they did not lie or committ adultery. Then of course, they are making their cash cow and puppetmaster Jennifer look more wonderful and admirable than ever when she is being more deceitful and conniving than ever.

I am going through such intense turmoil. Anybody who responds, don’t be cruel over this. There are people who have responsed who have been as cruel and maniacal as can be, acting as if what we are talking about is nonexistent. It exists and is unforunately all too real real, all-consuming, and influential. I just need to clarify that Brad and Angelina did NOT confess to an adulterous affair. People are also referring to fabricated statements about Angelina saying the movie where daddy and mommy fell in love, my sources and instincts say
that comment was fabricated. Media sources claim they made comments to magazines and newspapers they did not make. Don’t trust what you read. This nightmare and hell will never end. As a moral person, I cannot tolerate this.

“Awards don’t matter. Never have, never will. It is still possible, however, to follow the awards season and enjoy it as a spectator of the politics of Hollywood, which I relish in. As Manhola Dargis said, they’re bullshit but we love them anyway. I do not watch the Oscars to see my opinions validated, but that doesn’t stop me from smiling when my favorite films are recognized by anyone, be it this small organization or the Academy Awards

If you think the Oscars are a serious indication of quality then there are no two ways around it: You are an idiot.”
