Those 3 for Ben Button are the only ones I see itemized anywhere. Has anyone seen the complete list of winners?

And what specifically was “Best Single Visual Effect of the Year” in Ben Button?

    2. Chosh February 22nd, 2009 at 2:16 am 2

      Yay, go TDK!

    3. Gentle Benj February 22nd, 2009 at 2:31 am 3

And what specifically was “Best Single Visual Effect of the Year” in Ben Button?

      The invisible protagonist.

      haha! Benj for the steal!
I was wondering who’d be first to play the Gracie Allen role
      8-)

Good. I can go to sleep now and don’t have to change my predictions.

So the one with the most nominations, Iron Man, didn’t get any, now that’s interesting.

    6. Matt February 22nd, 2009 at 2:38 am 6

It’s too bad there was no love for Iron Man, Cloverfield, or Hellboy 2. But I can definitely live with WALL-E sweeping all 3 categories it was nominated for. I can sleep happy. ^^

I was wondering who’d be first to play the Gracie Allen role

      Per wikipedia:

The Burns and Allen act began with Allen as the straight man, setting up Burns to deliver the punchlines — and get the laughs. In his book Gracie: A Love Story Burns later explained that he noticed Allen’s straight lines were getting more laughs than his punchlines, so he cannily flipped the act over —- he made himself the straight man and let her get the laughs.

      Great, now I’m horny.

OMG, thank you, now I can really go to bed! The Dark Knight won two, including one in the music category opposite Slumdog Millionaire – the only time any 2 of the top 3 contenders competed. So I can rest pretty well on my TDK predictions for both sound categories. Sound Mixing and Lead Actor (and by default Supporting Actress) are the only categories where I’m predicting against the Guild winners.

    10. Zach February 22nd, 2009 at 2:58 am 10

That Sound Editors category is the first and only Guild loss (other than Dev Patel at the SAGs) for Slumdog this season!

Granted the TDK loss to Button in one of the categories is just a tad disconcerting…nah.

    11. Jake February 22nd, 2009 at 2:59 am 11

This could mean that The Dark Knight takes Best Visual F/X? I mean, it wasn’t nominated in the Best Visual F/X in an F/X driven movie because TDK isn’t F/X driven. TDK won Best F/X though, here.

    12. SlumGod February 22nd, 2009 at 3:05 am 12

“Best Supporting Visual Effects – Changeling”

What does that mean? I don’t remember any F/X in that movie, can someone elighten me here please?

    13. Zach February 22nd, 2009 at 3:35 am 13

Maybe it was the hanging scene?

Actually, Changeling also won Matte Paintings in a category without any actual Oscar nominees.

And Button won Compositing, so it actually won 4 to TDK’s and Wall-E’s 3 each.

      http://www.visualeffectssociety.com/documents/2009WinnersListForPublicRelease.pdf

The “Special Effects” overall award has only been given out the past two years, I think. It went to Oscar non-nominee Casino Royale and loser Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban, so it’s not a really reliable indicator for the VFX Oscar.

Not to mention that acc. to IMDb, it was only TDK and Defiance facing off in that category this year.

Goodnight, all, can’t wait for tomorrow night!!

    14. Hans February 22nd, 2009 at 3:37 am 14

I’m guessing “supporting” might just mean more subtle visual effects that aren’t obvious like a man aging backwards or a big rig flipping over. Something like that guy’s hanging looking realistic, perhaps along those lines?

Edit: Ha, Zach, it looks like you and I had the same idea.

    15. Watermelons February 22nd, 2009 at 6:14 am 15

WHERE IS KATE WINSLET ON THIS LIST???!

      I DONT” GET IT!

    16. guest February 22nd, 2009 at 9:48 am 16

Yay for TDK! If it wins both sound categories on Oscar night it will make my day! Visual Effects will be a bonus !!!!!
Still have a feeling that CCOBB is this years sort of dark horse…..
Slumdog is the favourite but CCOBB might just end up with more awards in the final tally .

    17. Say NO To Ben Button! February 22nd, 2009 at 11:55 am 17

guest…don’t make me laugh. Benjamin Button won’t win more than 3.
