Looks like it might have a shot at a lot of tech categories. I’m hoping Michael Giachinno’s score will be good as well. Over the past few years, he has become one of the most original working composers. Ratatouille is among the best scores of all time and I’m excited to see him scoring Up as well

  2. Anna March 6th, 2009 at 8:35 pm 2

That looked amazing! The first trailer looked fun but I wasn’t taking it too seriously. This trailer made me pay attention!
I’m excited to hear that this is Michael Giachino. He also composes for the best show on TV (Lost, of course!)

  3. Alan of Montreal March 6th, 2009 at 9:56 pm 3

I agree with Anna–this was a much better trailer than the previous one. It had more gravitas. And finally looking at the cast list, I noticed that Winona Ryder is in it. Man do I miss her in movies.

I`m blown away! I hate Star trek but I`m so excited for this which means it`s gonna be huge when non-Trekkies can`t wait. This looks amazing because it doesn`t look like Star Trek at all! And it has Harold (sans Kumar) kick some serious ass!

I think a movie released this year will cross $1 billion again. Inflation and ticket prices make it possible now as well as emerging markets. It took 7 years between Titanic and ROTK but only 3 years between ROTK and DMC and 2 years between DMC and TDK. So we will see more billionaires. Maybe not Star trek but Transformers should have a good shot. I think they can pull DMC.

This looks good. Lots of names in their that I trust whole heartedly (JJ Abrams, Giacchino), so who knows.

My inner geek is jumping up and down. Skepticism gives way to what the hell, I’m just gonna be excited about it.

GIVE THESE BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED BLACK WOMEN MORE ROLES…

But in the future there is only the one. Didn’t you see the original series? At least Winona Rider is in the future too.

  12. Afrika March 7th, 2009 at 1:25 pm 12

    Rob Y

was that suppose to be funny? cos it wasn’t.

  13. Dan March 7th, 2009 at 10:27 pm 13

I AM a Star Trek fan, who was disappointed with most of the previous movies, but this looks like pure fun.

  14. Nick K. March 7th, 2009 at 11:12 pm 14

Oh chill out, Afrika. He’s talking about the original series. He’s not talking about movies/t.v. shows in general. Don’t be so uppity.

    Can’t wait for Star Trek.

  15. MrT March 8th, 2009 at 1:05 pm 15

Great trailer but isn’t the score a bit too similar to The Dark Knight’s?

  16. tony rock March 8th, 2009 at 5:05 pm 16

that wasn’t the score. it’s a track called “freedom fighters” by two steps from hell.

  17. SaltireFlower March 8th, 2009 at 6:01 pm 17

    “Don’t be so uppity.”

Am I the only person offended by that?

  18. Dan March 8th, 2009 at 8:01 pm 18

To be honest SaltireFlower, I wasn’t offended because I think they were referring to how Afrika seemed to be looking for insult where there really wasn’t any. I think we all agree that more talented and beautiful black women roles are needed, it’s just that if we stick to the Star Trek series canon, that is really the only part. When someone pointed that out, Afrika tried to shoot them down in what I thought was a slightly uppity manner. Please don’t be offended by what some people said. I’m only trying to play peacemaker.

  19. Paul Outlaw March 8th, 2009 at 9:45 pm 19

    @ Dan

Just checking: Are you familiar with the meaning of the word “uppity” when it is used to describe the behavior of black people (i.e., Afrika)? I was also offended by it.

  20. Dan March 8th, 2009 at 10:01 pm 20

    I guess not?

  21. Dan March 8th, 2009 at 10:04 pm 21

He wasn’t referring to black people as uppity, he just meant the way Afrika responded to his point was uppity. Why should it make any difference whether its about black people?

  22. sartre March 8th, 2009 at 10:09 pm 22

Beads of sweat pearl on Dan’s forehead as he realizes his uncomfortable faux pas. Aware he’s surrounded Dan whips a gun out of his trousers and holds it against his temple ‘hold it, next man makes a move and the white guy gets it’. Paul Outlaw shouts out ‘hold it men, he’s not bluffing, he’s just crazy enough to do it’.

  23. sartre March 8th, 2009 at 10:34 pm 23

That was an attempt to lighten a slightly awkward exchange with a Blazing Saddles allusion. Hope no one was offended by it.

Why am I so good at playing bitches? I think it’s because I’m not a bitch. Maybe that’s why Miss Crawford always plays ladies.
    Bette Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989)

I love playing bitches. There’s a lot of bitch in every woman – a lot in every man.
    Joan Crawford (March 23, 1904/05/06/08* – May 10, 1977)

So, having never really gotten into Star Trek at all – I did see Insurrection and thought it was alright – this looks to be mighty good fun. Eric Bana will no doubt be enjoyable enough – on a side note, it’s damn nice to see that he was able to complete a brilliant little doco called Love The Beast whilst completing this film.

???? looking for insults? shooting people down? uppity?
*confused stare* How do I even start drafting a response to such foolishness? lord have mercy!!

  31. Sam Juliano March 10th, 2009 at 9:49 am 31

Well, I am a quite the Star Trek fan throughout my life, and although th eoriginal series is the one I grew up with, and the one dearest to my heart, I still believe the Next Generation is tops. I am looking forward to this film. Thanks for this trailer.

  32. joe March 10th, 2009 at 10:25 pm 32

Looks very promising, superpromising. I hope it does well this summer and not get lost in the shuffle. The special effects are top of the notch and the action is amazing. I look forward to seeing Leonard Nimoy and Karl Urban too. J.J Abrams is going to take some initiative and tightened up the Star Trek franchise a little bit. I’m looking forward to this 100 percent. #3 on my list of the summer movies to see, #2 being Public Enemies, #1 being Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
