Taking Woodstock scores a primo poster

From Rolling Stone via Firstshowing.net comes the bitchin’ new acid flashback poster for Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock. As RS points out, the graphics recall Wes Wilson’s designs for San Fransisco’s Filmore. Funky and far out, man. Fuckin’ A.

Ang Lee really amazes me – this man has jumped genres so many times and so effectively (let’s leave Hulk out of it) that his work almost becomes indefinable by genre itself.

    Can’t wait to see this!

I feel high just looking at this poster…

  3. andrew April 8th, 2009 at 7:14 pm 3

Love it, can’t wait for the film!

  4. Tufas April 8th, 2009 at 7:28 pm 4

Love it to death and back.

Most anticipated movie of 2009, at least for me.

    Couldn’t agree with TAD more.

I wish I liked the trailer as much as I like the poster. The trailer just did nothing for me.

That poster is giving me seizures.

    Psychidelic man.

Interesting poster, only problem is makes it awfully difficult to read the actors names. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked.

That poster is amazing. I want to buy it.

  10. Joao Mattos April 9th, 2009 at 12:20 am 10

Cool, but this is the final poster or just a promotional one? Promotional isn’t it?

Because the looks seems too difficult to reproduce and print.

… seems like right material to me for Mr. Lee. Love the poster, but is it really a multiplex poster? I don’t think so.

I personally love it. Don’t think it’s BP material, though, this is probably going to be received in the same way “Almost Famous” was, noms here and there, no BP.

After reading the book and then watching Demetri Martin’s show to “get to know him”, this is among my top 2-3 most anticipated of 2009 (Inglorious Basterds being one of the others). Needless to say, I wish August would get here!

crouching tigar wasn’t bad. i have yet to see Ice strom.

shades of Peter Maxx! What a perfect way to evoke the generation. I don’t need to know anything about the movie (despite the fact that I do). I see this poster, the colors, the lettering, the very psychedelic-ness of it and immediately am thrown back to that time. Great choice.

I love how the octavo “folds” are printed in for a trompe l’oeil vintage effect, and the tie-dyed color palette is perfect.

  18. DaneM April 9th, 2009 at 10:04 am 18

richard – There’s a little film called “Brokeback Mountain” you must not have seen. I predict it will make the AFI Top 100 in 2017 when they announce their 20th Anniversary list.

  19. chrisw April 9th, 2009 at 10:09 am 19

DaneM is right richard he did make Brokeback, although I, unlike Dane’s prediction don’t think it should be in a top AFI 100 list. Plus he did make Ice Storm and Tiger, Dragon. He’s one of the best out there today.

  20. JJ Jones April 9th, 2009 at 2:02 pm 20

I want to see it. Terribly interested in it.

“I love how the octavo “folds” are printed in for a trompe l’oeil vintage effect, and the tie-dyed color palette is perfect.”

-sheer genius, right? I didn’t know that it was part of the over all effect of nostalgia. It seems to me that this poster was from a former-woodstock-fan boy’s forgotten closet.

to all haters – pls don’t shit on this movie.

    @Afrika

Nobody cares what you think after flaunting that you are a BIG Fan of Beyonce. This blog is about fims, actors, screenplay etc. not big headed popstars and primadonnas.

Its sad that people like Afrika penetrated this market place of ideas. Worse, he/she is always present in almost all threads slamming the likes of Penelope, Amy Adams and god knows who. This blog has become a fan boy/haters club.

The likes of Afrika dont even conribute intellectually to this blog. They post comments just to flaunt judgmental and defamatory remarks.

Am I the only one sick of AFRIKA?

The only thing better than looking at this poster is laying eyes on this poster after taking 4g of psilicibin. Effin job well done in my opinion.

I really enjoy reminiscing on the four year time period that culminated for me at this festival. My only regret is I cant remember squat from those 4 years. What I would do to get those memories back…

“The first time I saw The Hurt Locker, I had forgotten who the director was. As the film unfolded I kept saying to myself, “Wow, whoever directed this really has a unique intellect and highly focused directorial vision.” I knew that this film was different, that it had a depth not usually seen in a film set during wartime — but I didn’t know exactly how or why I was experiencing this reaction. When the end credits rolled, my “aha!” moment arrived. “So it’s a woman!” I thought, “It all makes sense to me now.”

Yet, I believe that Bigelow won the DGA — and quite possibly will win the Oscar — not because she’s female but because she did excellent work. Some voters may choose her to make some kind of political or feminist statement, but Bigelow’s name wouldn’t be on that ballot unless she deserved to be there.

Some claim that the dearth of awards recognition for female directors is because there are so few good female directors. To me, a statement like that ignores the fact that bias has prevented more women from getting good material to direct.”
