It isn’t that big of a surprise that the courts opted out of giving the long-suffering Crash producer, Bob Yari, a retroactive Oscar. Yesterday, the 2nd District Court of Appeals denied the “right of fair procedure” as applicable to this case. According to the AP, “Private organizations can make their own decisions when it comes to their awards.”
Bruce Davis was pleased to know this and added, “it is nice to be assured that the courts don’t want to be in the business of deciding who wins an Academy Award.”
Okay, fine, Bruce Davis, but if someone produced the movie and the movie won Best Picture should not that person also win an Oscar? Deserved retroactive Oscars would open a can of worms you KNOW the AMPAS would rather avoid. The AMPAS is like the Pope, loathe to admit and atone for past mistakes.
“The AMPAS is like the Pope, loathe to admit and atone for past mistakes.”…
The biggest mistake of AMPAS is to have bestowed the Best Picture Oscar to the pretentious and moralizing Crash instead of crowning the exceptional and history-making Brokeback Mountain as Best Picture (at least, virtually ALL other organizations and guilds were sensible enough to ackowledge that).
Having seen both films, I still can’t understand that one… how could that happen?!
I wish Crash had not won at all, at least more people would have admitted to loving the film.
Ryan you crack me up.
LOL, Ryan.
I think The Jack sums it up perfectly. And that’s why anyone that Weinstein is campaiging for is going to be out of luck from now on.
Hmm, Oscar repo man. I like it.
Jack Nicholson needed to get a grip and calm down about the Crash win. In that photo he looks like the squirrely old Six Flags Guy.
🙂
“The AMPAS is like the Pope, loathe to admit and atone for past mistakes.”
If AMPAS really wanted to atone for past mistakes in the Crash case, they’d revoke and repossess Haggis’s Oscar.
that would be a cool job: Oscar repo man.
Well, the Vatican took 359 years to “forgive” Galileo for teaching a harmless scientific truth (the Earth is not the center of the Universe), so there’s hope that Mr. Yari will get his Oscar…
🙂
Blame Harvey Weinstein for AMPAS’s producer rule. It was him tacking his name onto the credits of “Shakespeare In Love” and then barging his way to the front of the stage to hog the mic that made them re-think the rule.
If anyone has the footage of that show, look at Edward Zwick’s face. Poor little guy. When Harvey takes the mic, Ed knows he has no chance of getting a word in.
