In a press conference with Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie the director and star said that the title change from Changeling to The Exchange was something they hadn’t yet heard, as the AFP reports:
Eastwood picked up on a line of questioning at the post-screening press conference about the elusive nature of truth when asked about the Universal press release.
“It’s in writing, but is it the truth?” he joked.
So perhaps this is still a point of negotiation. What is our opinion, ADers? The positive aspect is that it makes it seem less like a remake and more like an original. The downside is that The Exchange sounds, in English, like a spy thriller.
alynch, I completely agree. The Exchange is one of the blandest titles I’ve ever heard of. It makes the film sound like it could literally be about anything. Changeling carries an actually meaty meaning all by itself, and sounds mysterious as Mr. F says. Yes, Changeling has already been used (cool George C. Scott haunted house movie) but it’s been a while. If it’s not going to be Changeling, it shouldn’t be The Exchange, either; it’s just too generic.
You know, I actually thought “Changeling” was a nice, evocative title, so I really hope they go back to it. “The Exchange” is just ten different kinds of bland.
Seriously, Changelina!! I’m surprised no one ever thought of that before. Totally genius. Switcheroo, lol.
hahaha, sartre thatz a good one
How about The Changelina?
Yes, both are bad titles. It should be called “The Switcheroo.”
That’s my suggestion.
The Jack, I know, lol. But you can’t really imagine it being “The Exchange” either, can you? The title is going to sound weird until people start seeing the movie I guess. Then your emotions will override your logic.
They are both terrible titles. One of the reasons I’m skeptical about its Oscar chances is because I can’t imagine any celebrities on stage at the Kodak saying “and the winner is… Changeling”.
I don’t really like the new title. “Chageling” sounds more mysterious. However, I’m still excited about the movie.
P.S. How About adding Iron Man for Visual Effects and Sound to the contender tracker
I’m sure it’s a title that marketers have tested Joe/Joanne Public with.
Me? I prefer “Sommersby: Except With A Child”
