Potterphiles are so eager to see The Half-Blood Prince they’re threatening to… not go see it? Online petitions warn that fans plan to boycott the postponed opening day. Not sure yet what they’ll do the day after that. But something!
Potter fans are also airing their grievances on social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube. A Facebook group named The Delay of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Has Ruined My Life is calling for a nationwide boycott of the film on opening day…
Fox News recently suggested Potter star Daniel Radcliffe’s highly anticipated — and entirely nude — debut in Broadway play Equus triggered the delay from the studio, which doesn’t want the chaste image of the bespectacled wizard tarnished.
OMG, Boo Radley Hooooo
I think the best is the boycott opening “day” part. Assuming they boycott it friday and see it saturday, they won’t really accomplish much – I don’t think HP is expected to break any friday records anyways… lol
RRA: I could swear I read that the first Deathly Hallows was going to be released in 2010 and second in 2011. Though if it’s still not confirmed I’ll be damn happy. The thought of two Deathly Hallows does not excite me. Sorry Kelly, but the book was just weak.
The numerous deaths were unnecessary and in some cases the characters were killed off in a disrespectful manner – they were killed off for shock value instead of actually furthering the plot. And I’m sorry, but the entire second act was just a weeping Hermione and her and Harry’s hike through the woods. The only good thing about it was Snape’s conclusion. Anyway, don’t get me started on Deathly Hallows because I spent months arguing about if with everyone I know.

Yates better than Newell and Cuaron? Really?
OK, better than Columbus I can grant you, if only because Columbus’ narrative energy is equivalent to taking several Polaroid snap shots, then taping them together.
Are you serious? Deathly Hallows being the weakest book? Get real. It was one of the best. Even though the extra bit of money will evidently be great for WB, the “artistic reason” for two movies is that they can’t edit Deathly Hallows down. It’s pretty much a driving plot throughout, and there aren’t subplots that can be cut like in previous books. Not to mention that they cited “script issues” (whatever that means) as the reason for delaying Half-Blood Prince, which I hope is truly the case…
So, I am glad they are making two movies. Because frankly I get fucking tired of bitches running around thinking they “know” Harry Potter because they see these lame-ass, watered down films that delete half of every book and then change the other half to cover up the plot holes they’ve create by deleting the first half.
In defence of the Harry Potter movie franchise – I think David Yates has been the best director of them all so far (with Order of the Phoenix), and I’m thankful he is helming the last three films. It’s about time WB went for a little bit of consistency in the series.
I can wait – I just hope they’re awesome. The trailer for HBP looks great.
Saltire, is that even confirmed or not?
The delay isn’t what annoys me. It’s the trying to squeeze more money out of me by splitting Deathly Hallows into two films. Deathly Hallows was the weakest book in the series, and yet they want to split it into two movies.
I think it’s a smart move in the end, apart from the money issues (as if that was possible, to keep money apart), once fans have no more books to be fed with, they will swallow any new material related to HP, no matter what they say, i.e. The Delay of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Has Ruined My Life (but creating a Facebook about it will certainly get it back).

Yeah they’ll get frustrated just like when they had to wait a whole year for the next LotR to come out, which by the way is the only major series filmed back to back where the last one released was the highest grossing. The other times they were released six months apart the second film took a HUGE hit at the box office (Back to the Future, The Matrix) and even almost a year they second film took a huge hit at the box office (Pirates). A year is good.

Stuart – Are they even staying with that two-part DEATHLY HOLLOWS format? I’ve heard them going back and forth on it.
Regina – Not bad English. Say, what’s Russian for “Bang Bang Georgia Boom Boom?”

I don’t mind the HP6 delay as long as it brings the last 3 movies closer together so we don’t have to wait for the wrap up. But if I read right, they are doing 1 HP film every summer for the next 3 years! HP6 Summer 2009, HP7.1 Summer 2010 and HP7.2 Summer 2011! That is so stupid! They should have followed the Matrix formula. Delay HP6 a year. So then you could get a new HP every 6 months. HP6 Nov. 2009, HP7.1 July 2010, HP7.2 Nov. 2010. By the time we get to “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” it will have been a whole year and I think the public will have gotten frustrated. Oh sure it will make money because everyone wants to see the wrap up but I think it will kind of tank quickly.

I have a fresh theory as to why HBP got moved to next summer…….maybe with alot of kiddie fare out in November/December, WB wanted to make more cash without that much market demographic competition, and considering how nothing seems to jump out in Summer 2009 as competition…….it could be #1 by default.
LOL. I thought I needed to get a life. But, this makes me feel better. LOLing again.
Well, I guess it’s a good thing that I’m not a big fan of Harry Potter to begin with!
