I’ve been wondering, what is the best thing, what is the worst thing?
Here a few thoughts of mine. The Kiss of Death is what we call the Spirit Awards because it’s usually the last stop a contender makes before losing the Oscar. I have applied it mainly to Best Picture over the years but it can sometimes be applied to Best Actor. Philip Seymour Hoffman won both but Bill Murray won the IFP before heading off to the Oscars where he lost Sean Penn.
The freedom of the Globes, the BAFTAs and the Spirit Awards never matches the “seriousness” of the Oscars. It’s like one is a party and the other is a funeral. But this time, the funeral is going to be letting its hair down.
What are your worst fears about tomorrow?
