Tom O’Neil probably has a better idea of how the Emmys will go —
Basically, I think Emmys are going to make like a TV repeat this year and bring back last year’s winners in all top series races: best drama (“Mad Men”), lead drama actor (Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”), lead drama actress (Glenn Close, “Damages”), best comedy (“30 Rock”), lead actor (Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock”), lead actress (Tina Fey, “30 Rock”). Here is my full list of predictions, which you should compare with those of other experts pooled by Gold Derby.
Believe it or not, such mass repetition has never happened — all of the top champs returning, that is. It may seem like Emmy winners get rubber-stamped all the time and they often do, but not en masse like that.
Others around the web include NPR’s blog MonkeySee.
Michael Ausiello at EW claims bragging rights to having been the first last year to predict the Breaking Bad actor to win. This year he has Mad Men for the win along with Hugh Laurie for Best Actor, etc. Everyone seems to agree that Mad Men is a lock for Drama, Glenn Close a lock for Actress.
I was excited to see a site called iAfrica chiming in with theirs and they have Dexter/House to win for drama this year.
And Cynthia Littleton of Variety also joins the fray.
Chicago Now’s Kurt Wagner spins it in a different direction by inventing the phrase Kanye’d. So, who is going to get Kanye’d at the Emmys?
DRAMA
NOMINEES: “Big Love,” “Breaking Bad,” “Damages,” “Dexter,” “House,” “Lost,” “Mad Men”
WILL WIN: “Mad Men”
KANYE’D: “‘Mad Men,’ I’m happy for you, but ‘Breaking Bad’ had one of the best seasons of all time.”
It probably isn’t too fun doing a No Guts, No Glory with the Emmys, since they are fairly predictable – but let’s see if you can come up with any good ones. I guess I’ll go out on a limb and say Big Love to upset in Drama (will NEVER happen).
