Warner Bros knows the hollow place in our hearts where the closely kept insider secrets of Inception used to reside, so they’re helping fill the void by giving fanboys a reason to live another year. Obviously, there are spoilers galore in the block quote below, but if you’re like me you’ll forget everything you read by the time Green Lantern rolls around in June 2011.
“In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers,” read the movie’s premise. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.”
The synopsis adds that Jordan must learn to wield his new powers in order to overcome the villain, suggesting that Mark Strong’s Sinestro may not be the Green Lantern’s archenemy until later in the series.
Some impressive talent on board for this, as reader Dan points out in an email reminder. Green Lantern is being directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royal) and now the cast includes Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins and Blake Lively. Oscar winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (Memoirs of a Geisha) is handling the camera.
With posts yesterday featuring Chris Evans as Captain America, and Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern today, I think we’re required by the FCC to provide equal time for 3rd party candidates. Probably best to keep DC and Marvel heroes apart, so you can find the concept art for Chris Hemsworth as Thor after the cut.
These come from Collider, via Screen Rant, via Comic Book Movie (where they have a “reader Dan” too, hmm.)
The Captain America and Thor design styles have a similar meaty feel — and that makes sense because they’re both Marvel and both Paramount. Screen Rant wonders if these might be fan art, but I don’t want to believe any fan has this much time on his hands (or this much talent to be working for free).
One thing’s for sure: I can’t wait for the swimsuit competition.
