This will count as Animated. Think Monster House, they’re going for that kind of comparison.

This uncanny valley thing is overrated. Beowulf, Polarexpress and A Christmas Carol didn´t suck because of “Uncanney Valley”
They sucked because they were bad movies.
I think the trailer looks very promising.
The captain saying: “Nobody takes my ship!” and “Excellent!” looked great.

What’s with all the puns/jokes/”funny” lines? There wern’t THAT many “witty” remarks in the comics (so…why add them to the movie).
I can only hope that these aren’t going to negatively effect the movie/story…

It’s not animated so then it’s visual effects? I guess it’s a lock for visual effects.

As Tin Tin fan….. I’m very happy with this.
The camera angles and movement are wonderful.

Wasn’t Monster House nominated for animated feature and it was motion capture.

Most of the faces are cartoonish and stylized anyway. It’s not the Uncanny Valley of Zemeckis, so it seems like all of these early criticisms are wankfests.

Super excited!! It’s assuaged most of my fears that it’ll fall into the dreaded valley (and at any rate, if the film is good, then I won’t notice it.)

@WalterNeff
At this point, I could care less where you trained. We haven’t seen enough footage to be sure whether or not the characters are in the Uncanny Valley.

Kevin
I trained at Pixar – I know what it means.

Kevin Klawitter: They’re making the case for it because despite the motion capture, they are still animating over the performers. Basically this is sort of a similar type of performance based animation to Rango and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

This is so violent. There is nonstop gunplay! This doesn’t seem fit for young children at all!

@Haggar:
It’s not eligible for Best Animated Feature due to it being made via Performance Capture

I guess this closes the Best Animated Feature race, next year. I really don’t see any film topping this one.

There was a previous animated series which was actually pretty good.

Because they’ve tried to make a live-action Tintin movie in the past, and it ended up looking like this:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_yRelGd3uWnY/S5TOG5wIM-I/AAAAAAAAAA0/rprkFDQG1rQ/s400/Tintin-1964.jpg
And the whole uncanny valley/dead-eye thing is overcooked and bullshit. It’s subjective theory at best has been hijacked by people who have no idea what it really means to be used as a new go-to complaint that makes them appear cool, hip, and smart.
As for the actual trailer, it looks great. The animation is spectacular and the story and action looks like vintage Spielberg. I can’t wait to see this in a theater.

Why not make this live action instead of Deadeye-O-Vision?
