Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.
The song is grating, but the movie looks quite good. Looks like quite a performance from Close.
Yeah, she gets nominated, but I believe her next movie trailer will say Six Time Academy Award Nominee.
Huh… well my overwhelming reaction was “how does anyone mistake her for a man?” So I’m not sure.
Is this supposed to be something along the lines of Boys Don’t Cry?
1860’s Ireland, Matt.
I suppose many people would not have been able to get their heads around the disconnect.
She does look splendid. And having recently done an intensive catching-up of Damages, the transformation is extremely impressive. It’s also strange but this trailer made me think of Neil Bartlett’s books especially Skin Lane. It looks similar in terms of tone and atmosphere (and with obvious similarities both dealing with conservative society and repressed feelings). I’ll definitely watch it when it’s out.
The woman is simply marvelous, no doubt about that. The fact remains: is the Academy going to embrace this story? I think it’s amazing and beauiful but the Academy might see something else.
I think a nomination is guaranteed but not the win. Davis is ahead of her at this time.
The trailer was heart-warming and the acting looks great. If the film was bigger then Wasikowska would probably have some buzz too. Any doubt in my mind that Close won’t get nominated this year gone, and if she’s as good as the trailer suggests then she’ll deserve the nomination too.
The “5 time Academy Award Nominee” makes me want her to get the Oscar next year so badly
Nothing screams “give this woman an oscar already” like a trailer pointing out the precise number of times the academy has failed to do so.
Sixth time’s the charm. I mean look at Winslet. Ad she was also going against one of Streep’s juggernaut performances when she finally won. But still the movie itself looks bleak and rather uninteresting. Actress nom (win?) might be the only one for the movie or in pair with a costume nod.
Glenn will win an oscar for this.. I think the song sounds great… Ducks and dives a bit in the trailer though.
will be interesting to hear it properly. This could be a double oscar for A nobbs. best actress, best original song?….
The use of that song in the trailer was kind of awful…
Genius trailer- music cut really well- hope Glenn is as good as this looks!
She looks like Robin Williams in that god awful Bicentennial man movie
I really have my doubts if Glenn Close will win the Oscar! I don’t think so! Critics say that Janet McTeer steals her completely the show! And also i think that Viola Davis, Michelle Williams or Kirsten Dunst will win!
This year’s actress category is really shaping up. Now if only the studios could spread those complex characters into other films for the rest of the year and not cram them into the next three months. Come next June, we’ll all be starving again.
the Oscar is hers. Academy loves transformations and she seems to play wonderfully.
FINALLY, some buzz again. I really want her to win this year. She is probably the best actress out there WITHOUT an Oscar (ok, she AND Judy Davis…AND Julianne Moore…AND Michelle Pfeiffer…damn, Academy!)
Smart, smart marketing. This reminds me of what Fox Searchlight did for Jeff Bridges in CRAZY HEART (which was actually inspired by what they did for Mickey Rourke in THE WRESTLER). As with both those films they made it clear that the star attraction was Glenn Close. And yes, they want her to get that Oscar too. I am still putting my money on Close to get it with her beloved, overdue, veteran status. And frankly I don’t think anyone will ultimately complain if that does happen.
Glenn looks incredible in this trailer, I hope she gets her desrved Oscar soon enough!
Did the movie really get lukewarm reviews?? Regardless of Close’s performance, this looks really great … and I’m usually really not into these period movies…
I love Glenn, but honestly I just dont know if I want her to win for this. Im gonna have to watch all of the “buzzed” performances before I pick her as my choice to win. If she does win, this goes for Meryl as well, she will get a long standing ovation!!!!
Oh my the film is much better than I thought! The cast is really strong and Aaron Johnson shows some talent
Glenn Close will be nominated and hopefully win for this. The transformation IS remarkable. Just take time to watch an episode of Damages peeps
Its Yentl without music!!! Seriously though, Glenn looks good. A very quiet, understated performance – but bloody well acted. And the film looks far better than I expected. Can’t wait to go see this. The music was great too – what are people’s problems????
If Glenn doesn’t win an Oscar for this role, then there is no justice in the world.
Well, saying that Mrs. Close has been six times nominated for Oscar sounds like she’s a winning actress already, regardless she’s won an Oscar or not. There’s a big effort to look like Robin Williams. The film looks pretty good and I really want to see it.
…and yes, it’s preposterous that such a wonderful actress hasn’t won an Oscar yet.
If she doesn’t win – SHE is my favourite 6-time nominee.
I like her but it seems that she is begging for that Oscar. Turns me off.
Though I would watch this along with MWWM and Iron Lady and try to objectively judge who did the best possible job given the material.
Ehhh, if there is any actor/actress that deserves to beg – and get an Oscar – it is Glenn Close. Once we get her out of the way, can we work on getting Sigourney Weaver or Michelle Pfeiffer their Oscars?
I don’t see how you can think that Close is begging for an Oscar when her baitiest performances of the last 5-10 years have been on t.v.
Will someone post the Sinead O Connor song on youtube so we can hear it properly.. without the trailer suspended cymbal swells please!
here you go james.
A link to the full song from Albert Nobbs! Sounds lovely.
