I predict The Interrupters to win Best Doc (alternative: Bill Cuningham) and The Descendants to win Best Picture (alternative: The Tree of Life)

Was not expecting the win for Beginners. Nice surprise! Ewan and Plummer are both wonderful in it.

Definite boost for the film, it will be awesome if they win Picture. Jones definitely just pulled a huge one-up on Olsen. If Olsen doesn’t score a Spirit award or a NYFCC mention consider her pretty done in the race.

    Love that Cronenberg quote.

Very interesting list of winners, including the Best Feature tie. Hope Beginners sees a bit of a boost from this.

A bit surprised by the Felicity Jones victory. Thought Elizabeth Olsen would easily win that one, with Shaileen Woodley being a possible upset. I still can’t see Jones making the top 5 for Best Actress Oscar, but this win definitely should be a reminder that people are still remembering her.

Lovely wins for Beginners, which I saw a year ago in Toronto, with the lovely Ewan McGregor and Melanie Laurent and director Mike Mills talking afterwards. Time to watch it again.

    I love Gary Oldman. :)

I missed the first half but that was kinda fun. It always seems like the most awkward awards show. Like if they cleared a space in the middle of the floor and told them they had to dance, no one would go first.

I have to remember to check the redbox for Beginners.

totally agree on “tree of life” … i think we are about to be hit with an onslaught of awards for “tree of life” from the critics this december/january… very deserved and i’m rooting for TOL

also, is it just me… or do you kind of look like Jessica Chastain in your profile picture?

Not sure if these winners will impact the Oscar race in the end. Probably not. However, some of the non-winners (The Descendants, in particular) just lost a little steam, if you ask me..

Love the love for Beginners and Pariah. Two of my favorite films I’ve seen this year. Although I would have preferred to see Brit Marling over Felicity Jones. I wasn’t quite that impressed with Like Crazy or with her performance, though I still am glad to see it come in over MMMM. So in the battle of small wants I am still very pleased.

I hope this is the first signs of an interesting awards season, but I doubt it.

Anyway, the Best Feature winners are AWESOME. Two of my favorites this year. The jury (Anne Carey, Lee Percy, Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster, Natalie Portman) made a fantastic choice to decide on a tie. And on those two films!

I have to admit I’m surprised about Beginners. Nice film with very good performances. I find that with Ewan Mc Gregor I either like his performance or am annoyed by it. He was quite good in this. But this really gives Plummer a definite shot in the arm. I’m not surprised about Tree of Life so excuse me if I yawn.
