I love her face. Yes, she’s lucky that her bone structure still holds it all up so nicely but really, how do you act if you don’t have your natural face? I also like that she’s not afraid to speak her mind. I hope they do realize, though, that so-called adult entertainment doesn’t always have to be conventional dramas that lack sex scenes and/or profanity. I really hope that’s not what they’re saying. What is difficult these days is that most mainstream films have to appeal to children and/or families. Of course, it doesn’t help that the Oscars will reward films made outside the studio system even when the studio system is making such vivid, brilliant films for adults AND families. But I digress. Here is La Streep.
Does the media EVER stop kissing her Rich Little fat ass. God, it’s unbelievable!! She’s an impressionist, okay–and not a very good one at that.
He has to be.
It could be Mr. Gummer is just a really great guy too.
It’s because Mr. Gummer is not exactly Hollywood.
Yeah, she’s all that! Simply Meryl… But what I really do admire about her is her marriage with husband Don Gummer… Such an incredible couple and 33 years is a huge accomplishment in Hollywood!!!
I watched all the 60 minutes material (+overtime) on YouTube, along with an hour-long Q&A about The Iron Lady. She’s obviously campaigning this time around, she knows she has a shot at winning. All these will help. I expect to see her in many interviews.
If the AMPAS got wind that Meryl wants a third, they’ll be like syrup on waffles
i think she’s actually campaigning for Oscar. she knows she’s got a real shot at it this time.
@Brandz
Yes she is. She’ll be on the cover of Newsweek next week
I agree with Manrico. I hope they realize I don’t go to the theater for sex scenes or profanity. There has to be more to a movie than that.
I think she’s also going to be on the cover of either Time or Newsweek magazines. I believe it’s more of a discussion of the legacy of Margaret Thatcher.
And, if you can’t see “Little Children” or “Pan’s Labyrinth” or “The Queen” or… eh, all these great movies that I’ve just seen, “Volver”, “Notes on a Scandal”, “Sherrybaby” then you have to go down to your theater manager and ask him “why”
@Antionette
“Maybe she only watches her own movies.”
And maybe you only read your own posts.
GG acceptance speech 2007 for TDWP:
I agree with her acting has definitely improved. Starting with the 70’s, acting became more realistic. Actresses have definitely improved compared to the classical era. There are so many great actresses around now. We see a lot of the younger ones every year. It’s a pity we don’t see enough of the older greats because of Meryl Streep hogging everything.
“Oh I don’t see THOSE movies,” she purrs in reference to, basically, blockbusters.
I remember when she and Denzel Washington were doing press for THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, they both said they’d never seen the original. Maybe she only watches her own movies.
What I love about Meryl is that she always seems slightly intoxicated in real life. She’s always fun in interviews and absolutely the best at giving an award speech.
J, you misinterpret. THOSE movies are the generic flicks like slasher, Twilight, most of what’s churned out nationwide spring break till end of summer. Your examples are not what she’s referring to, she’s talking about very late teens.
One doesn’t need to see them to know trash. A few screen shots and any experienced person in the industry can tell the demographic.
But she opens herself up to a certain hypocrisy. “Oh I don’t see THOSE movies,” she purrs in reference to, basically, blockbusters. So if she’s admitting that she didn’t see The Dark Knight or The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or District 9 or Avatar, then how can she claim to know what in the culture these movies appeal to, and why are we listening?
I adore Meryl but I don’t believe that she hasn’t at least had Botox. Notice there are no lines on her forehead when she raises her brow. Mine wrinkles when I do that and I’m 26. She’s 62. They’ve ALL had something done. And hell, I would too.
Acting style has changed now. Prewar early golden age style had theater crossover, stage-friendly, e.g. Bette Davis and Kate Hepburn in the early to mid 1930s.
Today’s acting style seems more naturalistic to camera.
She’s a national treasure. I’m also delighted to see that Jessica Lange’s face has settled in to whatever surgery she had back around the Broken Flowers era. She’s stunning on American Horror Story. Now, if only Diane Keaton would lose the hats and the gloves and tinted shades and stop hiding her age. She’s fabulous, too.
The acting is better now?
Different maybe. Better? I don’t think so.
A pure classy lady. That’s all.
What’s the oldest average age of a Best Actress Nominee line-up? If things go as planned (according to most pundits and awardsdaily’s own sidebar) not a single actress will be under 30 and the average age will be 50.6. Ridiculously old for Oscar.
She is so wonderful and so intelligent and coherent ! Its always refreshing to see. I guess she will never work with Fincher since she doesn’t like to do too many takes!
I’m actually going to save this for Sunday night when it airs. But I agree with you about Streep’s face. She ALWAYS looks like Meryl Streep, regardless of her age, which is one of the reasons why she’s remained so relevant while other brilliant actresses like Dunaway and Fonda faded away beneath plastic exteriors.
And the Oscar goes to…
Hey, about Contender tracker – War Horse was nominated for GG original score. 🙂
The woman in incredible, period. She looks so lovely these days, and her beautiful voice hasn’t changed in over 30 years.
More than anything about her, I love her delicious sense of humor.
She really is brilliant. How lucky we are to have her.
