Agree with Jenny – this video is really impressive. Especially the editing and extra points for the HUGE range of films shown.

It looks gretat, i can see Max Von Sydow and Sandra Bullock nominations for their supporting roles. The movie seems so touching, without being sentimental garbage. Looks like a great oscar contender. Just wait…..

Thoroughly entertaining video. Probably the best compilation I’ve seen yet.

100% agree with you. That song was made to be used in music videos and trailers

Great montage, though still not as great as last year’s made by genrocks (Filmography 2010). If this one is pretty good, I can’t wait to see how genrocks’ will be (that is if they decide to make one this year). I do love that they included plenty of clips of my most favorite film of the year (Drive), but hated that certain movies were omitted all because the editor didn’t “enjoy” those movies. That’s the thing about these montages is that through the magic of editing, you can still make awful movies look cool. That’s what I enjoy about these videos. I love videos that honor all movies of 2011, not just the best. Hopefully genrocks will not have that type of judgment and include the films from this year that the editor of this video didn’t include.

Love this video. So well put together. Wish Wuthering Heights was in it, but hey.

You guys may want to wait for this year’s Cinescape before spooging all over for one of the many videos that will come out this year in the newly minted End of the Year Movie Montage genre that started a few years ago.

Any chance to watch it somewhere else? Due to copyright problems of some of the songs I can’t watch it in Germany and I’d love to check it out.

I usually really enjoy these but I kinda think it shows what a mediocre year it’s been at the movies. Don’t get me wrong, I think this montage was excellent in terms of execution. It’s just the problem of what they had to work with.

    @Antoinette

How has it been a mediocre year? It’s literally been 1000 times better than ones we had last year. All we had that was good last year was Inception, The Social Network and Toy Story 3. This year we’ve had masterpieces like Drive, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Hugo, Super 8, Midnight in Paris, The Tree of Life, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Moneyball, Bridesmaids, 50/50, The Help, The Descendants and many more that still have yet to come out. Mediocre year? I think not.

@ Ryman Oh what the hell? I’ll go through them.

DRIVE I have issues with.* But I think the acting, cinematography, and music were great.
HP7PT2 is exactly what I’d consider mediocre. All of David Yates’ Potter films have been mediocre.
    HUGO is a masterpiece.
SUPER 8 is a pretty good retread of the movies I saw as a child of the 80s = mediocre.
MIDNIGHT IN PARIS I thought had incredibly mediocre acting from the leads, maybe even worse than that, and otherwise was just pretty good. I did not get caught up as others did and really don’t understand WHY they did. I love Woody Allen but this time I thought it was meh.
THE TREE OF LIFE I liked what I saw, but I’m waiting for the Sean Penn half.
RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was really very good but not Oscar caliber and had lots of hokum bits especially surrounding the John Lithgow plot. I am a fan of the previous series of films/TV movies so I’m not genre biased.
MONEYBALL was almost a sports movie and almost a biopic with almost acting in it.
BRIDESMAIDS, 50/50, and THE HELP I skipped because they weren’t interesting to me. I’ll watch 50/50 on DVD but I hope to skip the other two entirely. So if I’m not even interested in seeing it…
THE DESCENDANTS I haven’t had the opportunity to see as it hasn’t played here.

Of the ten Oscar nominees for Best Picture last year I saw 9. I had no problem with any of those nominations and I would have also liked THE TOWN and THE GHOST WRITER to have made it in. This year I do not have close to ten movies I’d nominate so far. Not even five. Therefore I think it’s a mediocre year. You can disagree of course.

*On more than one site the weekend Drive was released, I read comments that the movie reminded people of an old Ryan O’Neal movie The Driver. I hadn’t seen it so I watched it. Now that I have, I can’t get behind Drive. I prefer movies to be original. That seemed like it borrowed too much. As have Refn’s other movies, especially stylistically, imo. Personal pet peeve. There are remakes, re-imaginings, and homages. I’m not sure that Drive was said to be any but it definitely borrowed heavily from the older film.

Wow Ryman. Talk about bad manners. You asked me a question and I answered you. You can at least be decent about it. Trust me, I won’t make that mistake again. But apparently I occasionally have the same bad taste as the Academy since I said I liked all nine of their nominees that I’d seen last year.
