Jerry- I’m sure they will do one for Cate Blanchett – since she’s coming out with 5-6 films in a couple of years from now. Just saw her photos from the filming of Woody Allen’s latest. Can’t wait 🙂
Just realized I have seen 14 films of Meryl Streep from this chart. My favorite Meryl Streep’s performance is from ‘Angels in America’.
Speaking as a mathematician, that is not a matrix. That’s a Cartesian plane. Oh well. *shrugs*
Anyway, I am bummed that Eleanor Shaw was categorized as frivolous. 🙁
Jones and Streep in Hope Springs are locked for Golden Globes comedy noms. They reminded me of some characters in that bergman movie, Scenes from a Marriage.
Looking at this Streep matrix, her acting range really blows me away.
And in regard to this, I don’t think that there is another living actor whose movies can actually match Meryl’s.
Though I will put Cate Blanchett’s in second place.
I wish it was her and not Julia for A:OC.
Let’s do a ranking shall we?
Your top 10 meryl performances?
Mine are:
1. Bridges of Madison County
2. Doubt
3. Sophie’s Choice
4. Angels in America
5. Death Becomes Her
6. A Cry in the Dark
7. Kramer Vs. Kramer
8. The Deer Hunter
9. Silkwood
10. The Iron Lady
Where is Kramer vs. Kramer?
First time seeing this. Very nice. Meryl is just the Queen, I bow down to her talent. Vulture should do one for Cate Blanchett.
There are several major roles missing, obviously, and I will chime in for my faveroite overlooked Streep film, Plenty. It’s about a woman who fears that the most exciting moments of her life are behind her and will likely never find happiness again. It’s simply marvellous.
Hope you all have a chance to watch A Cry in the Dark again now that it’s been proven that Lindy Chamberlain was innocent. The film appears even greater in the rearview mirror.
Oh my goodness, Hope Springs was terrible, plain and simple. It might be Meryl’s shittiest performance and worst film after Mamma Mia!
I don’t think there are actual “rankings” in the different fields, or are there?
Well if it is, then some ranks are definitely wrong. Plus Lindy Chamberlain is missing.
And The Manchurian Candidate and The River Wild don’t belong in these “frivolous”(comedy?) fields.
Thank you for sharing. This graphic is awesome. I agree with Paddy, Miranda should be higher and Julia Child should be lower. And Linda Chamberlin would be somewhere around French Lt’s Woman.
A very well made graphic that also shows the amazing range of Meryl Streep. Hope Springs looks like it’s worth seeing.
Maybe I’m blind, but I can’t find Cry in the Dark. Her characters in Deer Hunter and the Hours slightly more serious than Sophie – don’t think so.
This is great, although I disagree that Julia Child was more serious than frivolous, and the opposite of Miranda Priestly – frivolous? In which life was this now?
