Well, just so you know, creating this contest form was not the most fun thing in the world. Too many categories, fairly exhausting. But one thing I will note — you can tell what they really really really REALLY like by how many nominations the thing gets in all categories, much like the Oscars. So that would mean Mad Men breaks an Emmy record and takes home the gold for best drama series and Modern Family wins again for comedy series. Downton Abbey is all over the place, too.
The only thing I’m personally rooting for is for Louis to win something. Louis CK getting Best Actor in a comedy series, or writing or directing. Beyond that, it would be nice to see Christina Hendricks get some Emmy love for Mad Men, Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson for Game Change.
Please enter our contest! The winner(s) will receive an Amazon gift card. Contest after the cut.
Something tells me “Breaking Bad” might come from behind to finally win “Best Drama”. Anyone who’s seen the fourth season knows that it was a consistently magnificent piece of television which culminated in a truly memorable climax.
Agreed Ty!!
Cannot wait to see Lange win another role for TVs best performance this year
Don’t know about you, but it’s infuriating on this end to see Lena fucking Dunham get 3 Emmy noms on her first try while Lauren Graham has been waiting 10 years (and Kristen Bell 8) for their FIRST. That’s just honked up.
Dame Maggie Smith and Miss Jessica Lange, the greatest actresses tonight.
Let me try to guess these despite knowing practically nil about modern TV!

Actress, Miniseries/TV Movie: Julianne Moore, Game Change

Who’s been better than Bryan Cranston though? His run as Walter White and the transformation from mild mannered family man and teacher to drug kingpin and at times despicable is arguably one of the finest performances on tv. He should have it locked up. As great as Kyle Chandler was on Friday Night Lights and he was, he got a lot lucky Cranston wasn’t in the running. It’s tough for me to see someone else win.
ABC; Anybody But Cranston. He’s had this locked up longer than long enough. Time for somebody else to have the glory for a change.
i am rooting for Homeland (mainly) and then Breaking Bad 😀 also Girls and Sherlock!

“why aren’t we bringing up the truly wonderful Dame Maggie Smith every now and then”
Heartily agree. Smith has a unique style, probably the best comic timing of any living actor, and a devoted following who will watch anything she appears in (I’m one).
She also has the smarts to know when enough is enough, which is probably why she hasn’t re-upped for the next season of Downton.
I think in the acting categories Claire Danes, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Giancarlo Esposito, Louis C.K., Amy Poehler, Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Julianne Moore, Jessica Lange, Ed Harris will win. Sure some of them are the obvious frontrunners, but I think a lot of them would be actually surprises. Also, I wouldn’t be shocked if Don Cheadle pulled off a ‘shocking’ upset in Lead Comedy Actor, and maybe even Christine Baranski, Kristen Wiig, Christina Hendricks, Maggie Smith. We’ll see !
I don’t know what to think of all the Downton-nominations…they clearly LOVE the show, but then it doesn’t sound like a strong contender in any main categories. Weird. Although Maggie Smith could easily win and the Oscar-winning Fellowes could probably pull off Best Writing, too.
And just to turn it into Oscar-talk, which acting nominees could be invited to the Oscars ? Bryan Cranston (Argo), Don Cheadle (Flight), Nicole Kidman (The Paperboy), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) could even get nominations, Michelle Dockery (Anna Karenina) might be in a best picture nominee, plus Aaron Paul (Smashed) and Kristen Wiig (Imogene) could end up cheering for their respective co-stars, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Annette Bening.
From last year, ‘Best Crossover’ goes to Lead Drama Actor winner Kyle Chandler, who after finally pulled off an Emmy win for the last season of his show, starred in the critically acclaimed BO-hit ‘Super 8’ (J.J. Abrams /Steven Spielberg), is in both ‘Argo’ (Ben Affleck) AND ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ (Kathryn Bigelow) this year AND is currently filming ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (Martin Scorsese). Smoothest and quickest transition from TV to big screen, ever ?
‘Best TV Survivor’ goes to Connie Britton, who after getting one last nod for ‘Friday Night Lights’, was the female lead in ‘American Horror Story’ last season, only to find out that it will be only a one-season gig, because the show would end up as an anthology-series. Anyway, she scored a Lead Actress nomination for that, too, only now in Miniseries/Drama AND that also made her available for pilot season, so she is now the lead of the much-buzzed new show ‘Nashville’ which has spectacular early word. If that ends up in the musical/comedy competition at the Golden Globes, it MIGHT end up in the comedy race at the Emmys next year, and if that happens, Britton could have 4 (!) consecutive Lead Actress nods in the 3 different Lead Actress categories for 3 different shows…now that would be a rare accomplishment.
Last year’s breakthrough and this year’s snubinee, Mireille Enos got the exposure her career needed, and even though at first glance it might not seem that rosy – ‘Gangster Squad’ and ‘World War Z’ pushed to 2013 and sent back for reshoots, ‘The Killing’ cancelled – at least Hollywood now knows that this remarkable talent IS out there and hopefully she will get offers that won’t waste her skills. For what it’s worth ‘The Killing’ could still get renewed ‘Damages’ style (Netflix/DirecTV apparently interested), and her two delayed films could still turn out to be good to great, not to mention she is in Atom Egoyan’s ‘Devil’s Knot’ with Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon and was recently cast in David Ayer’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed surprise hit, ‘End of Watch’. So chin up !
And the WOW Award should definitely go to dear 77-year old Maggie Smith, who won an Emmy last year, is up for another this year, plays one of the most beloved characters on TV, meanwhile on the big screen, stole the show in the surprise international hit ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ and at the moment, is receiving glowing early word for ‘Quartet’, so she will be probably eligible for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress this year…so she will be DEFINITELY invited to the show, the question is whether as a nominee or just as an honored guest. Her career is one of the most impressive, she started out as a classically trained British acress with your typical Shakespeare-stuff, stage etc. (her first Oscar nomination is for Laurence Olivier’s ‘Othello’ for Christ’s sake), and after decades of that AND winning 2 Oscars (1 lead, 1 supporting), 5 BAFTAs, 2 Golden Globes, 2 Emmys, a Tony and a Laurence Olivier Award (big whoops, I mean she played freaking Desdemona opposite the guy who the award was named after! now that’s a nice angle), she quietly started to widen her arthouse audience and started accepting parts in American crowdpleasers and Box Office hits like Hook, Sister Act, The Secret Garden, First Wives Club, that little British-franchise, Harry Potter, and Emma Thompson’s delightful Nanny McPhee. The fact that after an almost 60 year long career she is still VERY relevant is such a rare feat, that frankly I’m surprised people don’t talk about her MORE. We go apeshit over Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren, and why wouldn’t we, they are divine, but why aren’t we bringing up the truly wonderful Dame Maggie Smith every now and then, too ?
I was gonna say… wasn’t Game of Thrones nominated for Best Drama? That’s what I’m rooting for. Squasher88 is also quite correct on Harry’s Law and Good Wife not being nominees for Drama.
One more small correction, it’s “Downton” Abbey, not “Downtown” Abbey.
Also, take out Harry’s Law and put in Game of Thrones for Drama series.
Na it’s okay – I took it off their pdf form and it’s hard to read because things continue into columns in weird ways.
Haha, this must be annoying:
– The Good Wife wasn’t nominated for Best Dramas series
– You are missing Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) in Best Drama Actor
– You are missing Hatfield and McCoys for Best miniseries
I just guessed because I don’t watch any of those shows.
However, I did half force myself to watch MISSING because of Sean Bean. (I saw the SILENT HILL 2 trailer today. I swear being his fan is gonna kill me.) Anyway, how does a canceled show become a miniseries? Either way Ashley Judd wasn’t that great on it. Whatevs. I just hope some people I like present or something. Otherwise, I don’t think I have much to root for here.
Where’s Zooey Deschanel. I’m actually predicting her?
Thanks guys – I added her. I didn’t realize there were seven contenders in that category.
You missed a strong contender (Zooey Deschanel in New Girl) in Best Comedy Actress.
