We might never know the true identity of this real-life heroine, for very obvious reasons.
I’m pretty sure it’s Jennifer Garner, oops, uh, Sidney Bristow.
Phantom: Your comment to steandric is spot on in every way.
…and I even forgot the tiny fact that she was awarded Best Supporting Actress by arguably the three most prestigious critics groups : New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, National Society of Film Critics.

GREAT, so you have already seen film. I mean, you must have if you can say with such certainty that Chastain’s part is a supporting role NOT deserving the hype. Are you rooting for someone else in the Best Actress race and fear that Chastain might be a real threat or your ignorance is just that…ignorance ?
What is ironic, that calling this unseen performance “a supporting role of a starlet being blown up and hyped here” is exactly what several people said about the Best Actress Frontrunner after seeing ‘Silver Linings Playbook’…the only difference ? Those people SAW the performance/character they criticized.
Oh, and for the record, a 35-year old classically trained Juilliard alumna who is currently starring on Broadway, recently received OSCAR/SAG/BAFTA/BFCA nominations for a Best Picture nominee, was the female lead of last year’s Palme d’Or winner and delivered 6 (!) critically acclaimed performances within a year (her first one was her Cannes-debut last year, her sixth one was for another Cannes-film a year later) is most certainly NOT a starlet…that’s an ACTRESS.
Had her 6 brilliant turns been released over a longer time period, say 6 years, nobody would have a problem with her potentially taking Best Actress this year, she would be considered someone who paid her dues. Well, guess what…SHE DID ! So IF her performance is brilliant in a hopefully good/great film, I REALLY hope she will win. Her body of work certainly backs her up, she delivered more critically acclaimed performances within a year than several Best Actress WINNERS over decade(s)-long careers, or at least I would have a hard time finding 6 brilliant performances when looking through the filmographies of actresses like Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Helen Hunt or even Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman. And I am not even saying they aren’t good/great/fantastic actresses, I’m saying if they could win, so could Chastain…IF the role and the performance are phenomenal.
A supporting role of a starlet is being blown up and hyped here. Didn’t we have a much better and familiar one last year that was ignored and snubbed by everyone? Fair Game.
It hasn’t been established if Chastain is playing a real person or a composite. This is a dramatization of actual events, so who really knows?
Raygo, it’s my impression that Chastain does portray a single real-life individual, a woman who was in charge of spearheading the operation. This was not a big group of people. It was an exclusive secret unit within the CIA.
We might never know the true identity of this real-life heroine, for very obvious reasons.
so the jessica chastain character is based on a real person? wow. can’t wait to see this.
I am just so angry the studio pushed the nation wide release back to 2013. Those of us who do not live in L.A. or N.Y.C. would like to see this movie sooner rather than later. Oh well, good things are worth waiting for.
Best Actress winner right here
I hope Kyle Chandler has a big role in this. He’s an amazing actor.
I’m pretty interested in seeing this. I am very curious about Jessica Chastain’s character. Knowing this is a true story, I wonder how young this woman was. Chastain is only 35 but I know they originally cast Rooney Mara in the role and she had to drop out b/c it conflicted with her TGWTDT promotional duties and she’s not even 30. It is all putting me in the mind of Homeland, with a young female CIA agent…..and I am OBSESSED with Homeland.
