It’s that time of year again, Oscar watchers. The Globes announce on December 13th. Contest, after the cut.

Might there be a good chance that Django Unchained ends up being nominated in the comedy categories? It is the HFPA.
Come on Golden Globes, nominate The Perks of Being a Wallflower for something!
m1, of course Moonrise Kingdom is a comedy! It’s certainly not a drama.
Smashed is a comedy?
sorry but for the song you can only pick 1 song and two write ins? is that correct?
Moonrise Kingdom is a comedy? In what universe?
phantom, I too could see Kendrick or Wilson being nominated for Pitch Perfect. I didn’t predict it yet I do have a difficult time seeing them shutting this film out.
BTW, why is Imogene one of the choices? Are they having a qualifying run for that or something? Because I haven’t seen any ads for it and it’s not getting released until next year.
I don’t know what to think. Django Unchained is a Western (Remember when True Grit didn’t score a single nod?), but it’s Tarantino and the Globes love him.
Lincoln is a very American story, but it IS Spielberg, DDL, Sally Field, TLJ.
Moonrise Kingdom is almost too American, but it may be quirky enough for them ala Little Miss Sunshine.
Tom Cruise and RDJ got nominated, but Melissa McCarthy missed out on what we had assumed would be a very easy nomination. What shall happen to Matthew McConaughey?
Alexandre Desplat has 4 eligible scores (5, if you count Rust & Bone)…how will they vote? My favorite of the 4 is Moonrise Kingdom (a mix of his stellar work in CCBB and Fantastic Mr. Fox)…Argo is probably the popular favorite, while Rise of the Guardians is more likely to get him a song nomination. Zero Dark Thirty could likely be a worthy contender. Could he nab 2 score nods and a song nod? If so, which composer does he bump out?
Argh! My computer….

Am I the only one, who feels The Master (and maybe even Django) could get the truegrit-treatment from the HFPA ?
Casey, Tom Cruise could sneak in, the HFPA loves nominating big stars for lesser films (The Tourist, anyone?), but I don’t think the Tropic Thunder-comparison will fly. That was critically acclaimed AND a Box Office hit, Rock of Ages is neither.
What about the most viable surprises ? My take :
Anna Karenina in main categories (they gave Atonement Best Picture)
Halle Berry (if they nominated her for ‘Frankie & Alice’…)
Rebel Wilson or Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect was a critically acclaimed sleeper hit)
Seth Macfarlane (I could see him surprise in Comedy Actor)
Channing Tatum (breakout star of the year with two strong Comedy-contenders)
Nicole Kidman (the HFPA does love her…also they LOVE star-power)
Whitney Houston (sentimental vote for Sparkle)
Maggie Smith scoring 3 (!) nominations (Quartet, Marigold, Downton Abbey)
Lindsay Lohan (the controversy-addict HFPA could easily go for her atrocious ‘Liz’)
I also wouldn’t be surprised at all, if the HFPA once again decided to nominate the ‘it girl(s)’ in multiple categories : Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) and/or Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games).
@tero
Thanks. And yes I could see cruise sneak in here (ala his nomination for tropic thunder)
Casey, I think you are very close.
Quick check says Bill Murray = Tom Cruise.
@steve50 Thanks. Watching it.
OT – Bigelow and Boal are scheduled to be on Charlie Rose tonight.
As doubtful as it is my fingers are crossed for The Perks of Being a Wallflower to get a nomination for something. Even though it’s a Drama I do think if they’d campaigned it for Comedy it could have been nominated. The only possibility I could see right now is Emma Watson getting a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

While I didn’t predict it I could easily see Pitch Perfect being nominated for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy).
I hope Anne Hathaway wins at least 1 award this award season! She’s definitely dedicated to her craft.
Filling this out, I think I must be expecting some really wacky Globe nominations this year. Is it just a really odd year? I feel as though a lot of obvious choices just didn’t feel right to me.
Come nominations morning, my predictions will either make me look like a psychic or an idiot. (Probably the latter)

Helen Hunt – The Sessions
The Sessions is considered a Drama? That’s odd.
Also, I think they might place Anna Karenina in the Comedy/Musical category a la Pride & Prejudice, if only because of how beautifully it’s all choreographed.
Hitchcock is crazily being considered a Drama. Would have gotten in as a Comedy I believe, at least for Actor and Actress.
The race is definitely tightening up in a few places. So exciting. I may just have to do this again next season!
SLP winning best comedy/musical
ZDT winning best drama
Chastain best drama
Lawrence best comedy
Cooper best comedy
DDL best drama
MM or Leo best supporting
Sally Field best supporting
That’s all I got for now. Still need to firm up a few spots.
les mis, lincoln, and pi will dominate the globes.
If Jennifer is nominated for Drama (Hunger Games) and Comedy (SLP) = double nominee! Who knows? After all, The Santa Barbara International Film Festival said that Jennifer Lawrence will be presented with its Outstanding Performer of the Year Award on Jan 26. For Silver AND Hunger Games…
It’s a sad day when it comes down to Seven Psychopaths and Ted for Best Pic and Psychopaths is the leap of faith. Also I think if Perks of Being a Wallflower was being judged as a Comedy, it would have gotten so many nominations. As it is I feel like Magic Mike will get at least three (Pic (comedy, actor and S actor)
I just want Tom Cruise to get nominated for ROCK OF AGES. I love that movie! 😀
In Best Song category are 5 nominees.
I think they’ll nominate Matthew Mcconaughey, unlike the Oscars.
Golden Globe for Best Actress (Motion Picture Musical or Comedy) = Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)
Golden Globe for Best Actress (Motion Picture Drama) = Jessica Chastain (ZDT) (or Cotillard)
I thought that Hitchocock was going to be under comedy not drama?
I went by Gold Derby’s list …I think Tom knows what he’s doing in that regard.
