Hats off to this very talented and passionate crew! It actually looks great, I want to love that movie so bad, hope Hooper won’t let me down.
Groaning at Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schoenberg trying to justify composing a new song for the film. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but why can’t they admit that they did it because it increased their salary and gave the film a surefire shot at one Oscar nomination at the least?
Also, I wonder which gay porn set Eve Stewart found and tried to fob off as her own work definitely designed this time? My guess is the elephant. Ripe with innuendo.
Wow – I just read the reviews on metacritic and it looks like a chore. Even the positive reviews are almost damning, which I was definitely not expecting.
Shoard, Perez and McCarthy(!) were very rough on it and Calum Marsh /Slant (not too familiar with him) absolutely eviscerated the film and Hooper.
(Very funny, Paddy. That’s the first thing that came to mind while watching TKS – “Eww! Don’t lie on that floor!”)
i’ve read a lot of reviews that were glowing from other sources that haven’t made it to Metacritic. several critics seem completely unaware of the source material and the famed musical. they complain that they always sing and there is no spoken dialogue and it’s bombastic nature. this is a surprise? musicals have a rough go of it with critics anyway. some of the critics go after this with knives as an attempt to burnish their reputation as cool, contemporary and all-knowing–THEY won’t be accused of falling for the emotional nature of a musical. the fact that the show is beloved by millions and a huge phenomenon gives them even more relish to tear it apart. they’re the ones who give 4 stars to comic book action films. it seems that audiences that “get it” will love it. seems LES MISERABLES is destined to a SOUND OF MUSIC life. loved by audiences, hated by critics. interesting to see how it all plays out.
You put into words my very own thoughts. I just have to laugh when I read some critics complaining about the all singing aspect of the movie or the believability of the plot, but never about caped men in tights flying around a city and trying to save the world from a ridiculously mean villain with an awful wig in the next comic book adaptation!
